I bought a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router. Right now it's running unsecured and open. How to configure it to a secure connection?
Security Type options are: Shared, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Enterprise, WPA-Enterprise, and 802.1x
Encryption Type options are: None, and WEP
I am setting up an LDAP identity store over ldaps in ACS 5.1. I specify that the connection uses secure authentication and provide the Root CA certificate. When I hit "Test Bind to Server", I get this error message in a popup window: "Connection test bind Failed :server certificate not found"Is this saying that ACS can't find the CA certificate uploaded, or does it mean the actual certificate presented by my LDAPS server during the bind test?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.

Both routers are set to provide DHCP.DSL modem: Verizon Westell Wirespeed B90-210015-04 I have no idea whether this modem is also a router, but everything used to work. OS: Windows 7 Professional N x64, SP1 My computer has two ethernet ports, but only one is in use at a time. I also have VMWare Workstation installed, so there are a couple virtual adapters in the mix, but VMWare is not running during any of these tests.Yesterday (Sat, 10-Mar-2012) I replaced my old router (A) with the new one (B). The A router has been working fine for many years; I just needed wireless access. After the initial setup, the B router worked fine, using hard lines connected to the switch ports, and the wireless access features (laptop and Android phone) - for about a day. It suddenly dropped the internet connection early this afternoon, Sun, 11-Mar-2012, ~1220hrs PDT. I heard it go out because I was streaming NPR at the time.Using the B router, my desktop computer (connected via a wire) can still talk to my laptop (wireless), but neither of them can see the internet.When I swap back to the A router (wires only), it now has no internet connection either! But the desktop and the laptop (both wired) can still see each other via the (wired) router.When I remove the router from the network and connect the DSL modem directly to my desktop computer, I have internet access; it works fine! But not if a router is in the circuit.
(1) Router B seems to work because my wired desktop and my wireless laptop can communicate locally.
(2) Router A still works because my desktop and laptop can communicate with each other using a wired network hosted by the A router.
(3) The DSL modem seems to work because my desktop has internet access when connected directly to the modem.
(4) Neither of the routers can communicate with the internet through the DSL modem.
I spent an hour in a chat with Verizon tech support. I've power-cycled everything. I've reset both routers to default specs and reconfigured them. I've reset the DSL modem via its button. I've used different cables. It appears that neither of the routers can successfully communicate through the DSL modem to the internet. But they both used to. Why would it just suddenly stop connecting through the modem?

computer <-> DSL modem <-> internet | works!
computer <-> either router <-> DSL modem <X> internet | NoGo
desktop <-> either router <-> laptop | ping OK

I just got my fathers old linksys WRT54GL. I Have resat everything, and made my own name, password etc.When i try to connecet, i can get on the network, but there's no internet connection. Even when i put an ethernet cable between, it does the same. i have internet connection when i connect directly to the router though.

I've searched and found many step-by-step guidesm kind of at my wit's end here.Right now when I connect wirelessly to the internet, it jumps on a connection labeled "linksys," which is my wireless router (BEFW11S4 ver. 4). It used to connect to "Jason" (me) but that's no longer a valid connection for some reason. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set my connection back up properly and secure it as my own.

I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to troubleshoot a wireless network at an Inn which is shared among three buildings. The internet at the main building works fine.
However there is a WDS set up for the other two houses that are part of the property. The network is a bit of a mess IMO. The main problem is that routers on the end of the WDS chain work for awhile after booting, but frequently stop issuing IPs. When a device tries to connect it says unable to configure IP or something like that. Rebooting the router always fixes the problem.
My networking knowledge is very limited but I think some settings must be incorrect. I will try to described the setup here..
All of the following routers are WRT54G's with DDWRT
Main router: 192.168.1.1 [different SSID that WDS], all routers forward DHCP to this router
WDS router 192.168.1.3 at main building is connected to an cantenna that shoots the signal over to 1st house. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.1
WDS router 192.168.1.4 at that house is the main AP for that house and gets its signal from 1.3's cantenna. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.3
WDS router 192.168.1.5 under the deck at the 1st house picks up that signal from 1.4 and uses a cantenna to send it to the 2nd house. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.4
WDS router 192.167.1.6 under the deck of the 2nd house gets the signal from 1.5's cantenna. Gateway & Local DNS set to 192.168.1.5
The IP configuration problems happen at the 2nd house with 192.168.1.6. I believe 1.5 also has IP configuration problems but that router is not used other than to transmit to 1.6. Again rebooting the router fixes the issues temporarily. It works for a couple days up to a couple weeks before the IP problems start.
Mac addresses for the WDS are set of course. I have been trying to experiment with settings for awhile, but do not really know what I am doing. I am not the one who set this up.
Also under the Advanced Routing tab,here are the Static Routing settings:
192.168.1.3: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.0, Gateway: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.4: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.3, Gateway: 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.5: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.4, Gateway: 192.168.1.3
192.168.1.6: Destination LAN NET: 192.168.1.5, Gateway: 192.168.1.4
Update: looks like STP should be enabled for WDS? Going to try enabling that I guess.
I had a secure connection, after trying to change the passsword, it now is unsecured. I was trying to connect a new Ipad to my router but I have failed miserably.
How can I get my router a password and then use that password to connect an Ipad to my home network? I reset the router, but the connection is unsecured, I can't figure out how to get it back.
In our area Comcast has increased the internet speed to 50mb. I have a six year old WRT54GL. Can this router pass 50mb through to the computer on a wired connection?

I too am having a problem establishing a secure connection for Dropbox, Adobe update and just about every website I try to access via Firefox or Chrome comes up as unsecure. I can add exceptions, but I would rather access them securely.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince buying and using this router about 1 month ago, I've had latency problems. With my Linksys WRT54GL, my latency has always been consistent. However, pinging to google (as a benchmark), my ping is a good 50-70 higher than directly plugging into my router. Directly into my modem I get 10-20ms pings; through the router, I get minimum 60ms up to 100ms spikes. When using the Linksys router, my ping would be 20-30s. I really hope it's just a settings problem. I've turned off QoS and wireless to isolate the connection to just wired, but it still persists. I really hope I can fix this problem, else I am going to buy a different router over the weekend. I can't play FPS games like Bad Company 2 with such high latency.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco E1000 that I was changing settings on and now I cannot connect when I have a secure connection. I can connect when I disable security, I can also connect with a USB wireless adapter. Anyone else can connect to the wireless, but I cannot with my internal wireless adapater if the router is in secure mode, but I can with unsecure mode. I'm not sure what I changed or when, or if it is a coincidence. I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition. I have two wireless connections. The wireless 2 with the netgear adapter is working but the wireless with the Atheros is not. The wireless connector works with other other networks, just not the Cisco E1000 and the Cisco E1000 works with other computers. When I connect with the Atheros to the Cisco it just shows "Local Only".

I am using Comcast as an ISP and have a standalone Arris modem. I, obviously, have a DIR-655 router REV B with a firmware revision on 2.00NA. I have already turned off packet shaping and QOS. Also, I have set the firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP, and assigned static IP addresses to my computers. The problem I am having is that whenever I go to any secure websites, i.e. anything that starts with https, it takes an extraordinary long time to log in and to navigate to any webpages therein. I also cannot upload photos to a website and when I try the Speed-test.net website the download speed is OK but the upload test errors out, it doesn't connect.

I have a Pix 515E with a VPN setup. I recently tried to connect Cisco VPN Client and get the following error: "Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding" I have previously been able to connect to this VPN using Cisco VPN Client without issue. Below is a copy of my config and VPN Client log & debug logs from Pix. We have Newwave Communications Cable internet, which i just found out the the ISP has recently implemented DOCSIS 3.0. (i'm not sure if that matters).

Does MAC address settings allow the administrator of the router to prevent access of computers and devices to a network at will? Basically, in my household I need to have remote control over wireless devices and allow them to use the network at times and others disable it. In other words, I control when and if a certain device has the ability to use the network or not. I think I found the settings in my router when I log into it, but I'm not sure how to use them or if it even does what i described above.

Log-in screen is presented, but the desktop never appears on the client machine. Connecting the subject laptop via an Ethernet cable, cures the problem, and the connection succeeds, so we can rule out problems with RDT configuration, firewalls, and third party software. The laptop is a Dell D610, with a Dell 1370 WiFi built in. It has been configured so Windows manages the connections.

So today I went and bought a CISCO PLEK400 powerline networking adapater. Brought it home, plugged it in to my router in my living room, plugged it into my PC in my bedroom, gave it a quick little test drive. First I went to speakeasy to test the up/down speed. Never more than 1.5Mbps down/1Mbps up. My laptop, running wirelessly through the same router, generally hits 20Mbps down and ~2Mbps up. So I plugged the ethernet cable into my laptop, to see if maybe it was the network card in my desktop that was faulty. Speakeasy speed test showed 1.5down/1up wired for laptop as well. Pinging google through command prompt, on either laptop OR desktop while wired, nets a ~300ms response time.
