View 1 RepliesI have 3 computers connected to the same home network. i name them XP1, XP2, and win7. obvious from the names, two pcs are running xp and one is running win7. I shared all three in the network. XP1 uses static local ip while XP2 and win7 use dynamic local ip. on xp2 and win7, i could not see XP1's hostname on neither xp2's my network place, nor win7's network. However, i could access xp1 over using its static IP. what xp1's hostname is not shown on the other two's network places? is that because of xp1 is using local static ip?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops(Win7x64 Home Premium) and a desktop(Win7x64 Professional)set up to use Homegroup. I can access each computer from the other, however, the desktop folders that are set to Specific Person under shared can not be accessed by either laptop; public folder is ok. I am using Live ID on all three computers. I tried to add the folders to the libraies that I can access and I still can not access them. However, the odd thing, to me anyway, is if I use Explorer and type the Desktop address I can access the folders.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had to share an Ubuntu drive to windows before, and I never thought it would end up being this difficult. What I need to do is share my 500gb drive in ubuntu, it is a secondary drive, not the primary with the OS on it, to my windows xp and my windows 7 machines. So far I have samba installed on the ubuntu machine and I have formatted and set everything up. The issue is that I just cant figure out how to connect to it in windows becuase when i use the map network drive feature it says something about no network found.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have recently ordered a laptop along with a docking station with the intention of connecting it with the desktop PC in the office. We want the documents folders of both computers to be synchronized and to that end we want to share the folders between each computer. However, to do so we will have to connect the laptop to the larger network in our office. Given the sensitive nature of the documents we only want the desktop PC and the laptop to be able to access these files and synchronize them.
Is there anyway in Windows 7 to specify exactly which computers are allowed access to shared folders on a computer? What's the best way to achieve the file synchronization between the two?
I have a computer with some shared files on that I my LAN can access. However this is only on the immediate LAN The computers then all go in to a router which has NAT enabled and connects to the rest of the work network. I have opened up port 135 through 139 both UDP and TCP etc How can I add this folder as a network share on the computers outside of NAT (it even has a web address pointing to it that works for the web file server)

This is on a Windows 7 32 bit computer using an HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 Series printer. I have removed and re-added the printer to the computer and attempted to update drivers but nothing seems to work at getting around this error.
We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.

When at #2 and trying to save a file to #1, the save time may be about a minute. When doing the same thing from a computer #3 with windows xp, the save time is a few seconds. Tried safe mode with networking. Same thing. Tried disabling remote differential compression. No change. The three computers are in the same workgroup.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwe have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

I am trying to share my printer with the other 2 computers on my home network. I have the printer connected to my XP machine. The other 2 computers are running XP and Windows 7. The Windows 7 machine is directly connected to the router and my computer and the other XP computer are connected wirelessly.I've shared my printer and given it a share name. But the other 2 computers cannot access my computer for some reason.I'm not sure why they can't access my computer to see the shared printer.
so i have a printer attatched to my mom's computer and it's set up for sharing. i can get to the printer through my macbook, but it's asking for a username and password to the network (which it didn't ask me to do when setting up the sharing settings on the windows pc) what do i need to do?

He turned to me for advice but I'm not really much use with networks. He's got the printer wired via the USB to his Windows 7 computer and that can print fine. But his Windows Vista computer shows the printer as offline no matter what he does. Both computers connect wirelessly to a router and have working internet connections. Both computers have the drivers and software installed (Epson RX520) and if he connects the Vista computer directly the printer via USB it works fine too. Both computers have fille and printer sharing activated. He just can't get it all networked together. He says it all used to network fine when he had his old desktop running XP but since replacing it with a Windows 7 system it will only work on one Computer or the other, not both.

I can connect to my router which is hardwired to a computer running Win XP Pro 32 bit, but I can't figure out how to connect to my printer which is on that same network. I can access the internet, just not the printer - which is connected via Ethernet to the router. Is is possible that because Win7 is 64bit and the other computers on the network are 32 bit running XPpro - that it won't work? I can't find anywhere where I would 'join' the mshome network. It asks me about them joining ME.
