I have 2 desktops and a laptop accessing a wireless Motorola modem using roadrunner broadband. My desktop/Vista and laptop/Windows 7 are working fine. My older desktop with XP has a wireless card and shows that the wireless is connected with great signal strength but won't access Internet Explorer. I keep getting an error message. I have tried re-setting up the wireless and shutting down the machine ,etc. I have seen a few older posts that suggest downloading some software, etc
I have a server computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard operating system with 4 client computers connected to the network running Windows 7 Professional operating system. All worked great yesterday. This morning, one of the client computers encountered this error:
An error occurred while reconnecting F: to \SERVERData
Microsoft Windows Network: The user name could not be found. This connection has not been restored. No updates or changes have occured between yesterday and today and the three other client computers have no similar problems.Just this one client has the error.
I just got a new laptop, and for the most part have left its settings alone. Today I was trying to get some sharing going between my desktop and the laptop. Both machines are connected to the same wireless network and both machines consider that network to be a Home network. Both are running Win7 Home Premium. It seems like my laptop is aware of my desktop on the network. It can ping it by IP or by computer name. When I go to Network from the laptop, I can see the desktop in the list of computers. However, my desktop cannot ping the laptop, nor can it see it within Network. My desktop has a Homegroup set up, but my laptop says "There is currently no homegroup on the network". I do have network discovery turned on for both machines. Why can my desktop not "talk" to my laptop but it works the other way around?
Update: Disabling the Windows Firewall on the laptop somewhat fixes the problem. With it disabled, my desktop can ping my laptop, but still my laptop can't see the homegroup. Also, it can ping via hostname, which resolves to IPv6, but can't ping via the IPv4 address. Obviously I'd rather not leave my firewall disabled, so I need a more specific fix.
Update 2: Aha! It is the Cisco VPN software I was running to connect to work computers. Once I disconnected and exited from that, the two PCs seemed to be talking normally and the homegroup was visible to the laptop. So now my question has morphed: how can I prevent Cisco VPN from interrupting my home networking?

I am trying to share my printer with the other 2 computers on my home network. I have the printer connected to my XP machine. The other 2 computers are running XP and Windows 7. The Windows 7 machine is directly connected to the router and my computer and the other XP computer are connected wirelessly.I've shared my printer and given it a share name. But the other 2 computers cannot access my computer for some reason.I'm not sure why they can't access my computer to see the shared printer.
so i have a printer attatched to my mom's computer and it's set up for sharing. i can get to the printer through my macbook, but it's asking for a username and password to the network (which it didn't ask me to do when setting up the sharing settings on the windows pc) what do i need to do?
a friend of mine has a USB printer (no WiFi and no Ethernet port) and is trying to use the printer from two different computers, without success. He turned to me for advice but I'm not really much use with networks. He's got the printer wired via the USB to his Windows 7 computer and that can print fine. But his Windows Vista computer shows the printer as offline no matter what he does. Both computers connect wirelessly to a router and have working internet connections. Both computers have the drivers and software installed (Epson RX520) and if he connects the Vista computer directly the printer via USB it works fine too. Both computers have fille and printer sharing activated. He just can't get it all networked together. He says it all used to network fine when he had his old desktop running XP but since replacing it with a Windows 7 system it will only work on one Computer or the other, not both.
I'm running a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition server that is currently the domain controller, and a Windows 7 Ultimate client. I have a 'Test' user for messing around with group policy - anyway, on the client Start Menu it has 'Test User' which leads to some form of libraries folder. Is it possible to restrict the link without removing their name?
I have windows 7 on one client and windows xp on seconad client. the problem occure when i share hp 1320 pcl 5 printer on network..when i go to install the error shows " unable to find *.inf file".

I just installed Win 7 pro 64 bit on a new computer / hard drive. I can connect to my router which is hardwired to a computer running Win XP Pro 32 bit, but I can't figure out how to connect to my printer which is on that same network. I can access the internet, just not the printer - which is connected via Ethernet to the router. Is is possible that because Win7 is 64bit and the other computers on the network are 32 bit running XPpro - that it won't work? I have another XP pro computer that is connected via wireless that accesses the printer just fine.I have a netgear USB adapter on both the WinXP computer and also the Win7.Win7 is foreign to me. I can't find anywhere where I would 'join' the mshome network. It asks me about them joining ME.
Any way beside the standard router/printer rebooting, firewall disablity. I am able to connect to my first laptop on which I installed all the drivers on but when I try to add an additional windows 7 laptop
I want to print via Windows to a static-ip hp printer over the internet. I have static-ip addressed printers and plotters that I need to print to via my laptops from various locations when i'm not in the office. I have three locations and each location has static-ip's assigned to the local printers and i need to be able to print to them. Most laptops are either Windows XP PRO or Windows 7 Home Premium. I have heard something about using port 9100 to print to them, but I don't know how that works.
Running Windows 7 32-bit on remote system and Windows XP 32-bit service pack 3 on system where printer is connected by USB cable. printer is HP Color Laserjet CM1312nfi. Windows 7 driver is loaded on remote computer.
allow an OKI C5100 Colour Lazer printer to be available to a MAC OSX, 2x Windows 7 and a Windows XP machine over a network.I thought the best solution would be a usb stand alone print server. Is there any sort of device that will allow drivers for various OS's?
i have 3 laptops, 2 are running vista and 1 with xp, the xp os will not recolonize the wireless network printer while the other 2 computers work fine. I cannot add a printer?
I've got a small wireless home network that currently has 2 computers - my desktop is running XP Pro, and a laptop that my wife uses running XP Home. I've recently bought a new laptop that is running Windows 7, and although it picks up the wireless feature of the network (it has wireless internet access), I can't seem to figure out how to get this new Windows 7 laptop to see the other PCs or the printer connected to my desktop. I've tried a couple of the "how-tos" online, but I must be doing something wrong. getting my Windows 7 box to see the other PCs and printer on my network
I have a wireless network with an older model HP printer connected to an HP XP desktop computer. I also have an HP laptop running Windows 7. How can I get the printer to work on the laptop?
I have a desktop computer using win 7 that works well with an hp c6100 series printer using a USB cable. I cannot connect wirelessly to this same printer from my netbook. both computers are using the same workgroup. When I tell the netbook to print it does not display anything, just doesn't connect to printer.
I've got a modem which feeds a wireless router; plugged into the router via ethernet cables are my personal computer in my room and an office computer. Connected wirelessly is my kitchen PC. My printer (Canon MX330) is not wireless/bluetooth and is connected via USB to my office computer.

I'm trying to set up a network/file sharing system, and more importantly, I'm trying to be able to print on a computer other than my office computer.
