Networking A USB Printer Between Windows 7 And Vista?
May 14, 2011
a friend of mine has a USB printer (no WiFi and no Ethernet port) and is trying to use the printer from two different computers, without success. He turned to me for advice but I'm not really much use with networks. He's got the printer wired via the USB to his Windows 7 computer and that can print fine. But his Windows Vista computer shows the printer as offline no matter what he does. Both computers connect wirelessly to a router and have working internet connections. Both computers have the drivers and software installed (Epson RX520) and if he connects the Vista computer directly the printer via USB it works fine too. Both computers have fille and printer sharing activated. He just can't get it all networked together. He says it all used to network fine when he had his old desktop running XP but since replacing it with a Windows 7 system it will only work on one Computer or the other, not both.
I just got a new computer at work and it has Windows 8 on it. My old computer ran on XP and was connected to two different computers with access to the My Documents folder on each computer. That is all I need access to. I have tried everything to get my new computer set up so that I can have access to those two folders as they are extremely important for my job. I mapped the network drives from both computers to my new one and they access to my computer. When I worked from the Windows 8 computer and tried to access those computers I received an error message saying that access was denied and to contact my network administrator. I have access to other folders on the XP and Vista computer except the folder that I need to get into. I have brought in two different people who do freelance work and neither one was able to figure this problem out. For four days that I have been unable to properly do my job and I have just been emailing files and documents to myself. The XP and Vista computer do not need networked together either.
i own a HP Pavilion dv9000 windows vista operating system and just a couple of days ago i was able to connect to wireless connections that were in range. The WLAN switch would always turn blue when i turned it on but yesterday morning when i turned on the switch the blue light was now orange and its been like that since? So i clicked to diagnose the problem and it said "Install wireless networking hardware!"
i have a wifimodem router so enabling the wireless access on the setting allows for both the desktop an laptop 2 have internet my problem is i wanna network the 2 system wirelessly using the regular options on my xpdesktop so to access files from either pc once connect what are the steps to go about to use this??the last ting i tried was wireless network on my xp ssytem did the flash drive ting it was accepted on the laptop but on the workplace computer only my system was showin up an not the laptop so i tink the workgroup on both system are called dif names
I have been looking at ways of networking my printer in my office. The problem being that my printer does not have any kind of inbuilt networking capacity. So I thought I could connect it via USB to my router as it has a USB port on it.The router is an Orange Bright Box - In the specs for the router it says that the USB port is for file sharing, mentions nothing of connecting a printer to it
I have a family member that is having trouble sharing their printer through the network. He has three computers on the network, two Vista laptops and a XP desktop. The printer is connected to the desktop and works fine on the desktop. The desktop is connected to the modem through a router. The problem is with the Vista laptop. He can not see the printer or even access the desktop at all. Both are part of the same work group. I have file and printer sharing allowed through the firewall. I have tried running the network setup wizard and that did not work. I installed the driver for the printer manually on the laptop and did not work. Everything that I know of related to sharing is turned on.What I find strange is Vista can not access XP but XP can access Vista.
My sister has a HP Photos-mart 8450 Printer that she wants to be wireless. Its a pretty nice printer. I'm sure she spent an arm and a leg when she bought it. Unfortunately it only has USB connectivity. She uses an apple laptop and I think she owns a PC running XP.
I was just at a "customer's" house doing some virus removals and what not. After I was done he asked me if I would network his printer to his 3 pc's throughout the house. 2 of the computers worked fine with the printer, but the one laptop (HP dv9000 running Vista 64 bit) wouldn't print unless I restarted it. I could click print, the job would go to the print queue, but that's it. It'd just stay there until I shut down the laptop and restarted it. Soon as vista would boot back up the job would automatically go on through and start printing.
Small office setup with a wireless modem/router. We have two computers that are identical HP Pavilion a6807c PCs running Vista Home Premium. Other computers in the office are a bit older and run either XP or Vista.Just purchased a new HP Officejet 7000 printer and connected it via a USB to one of the HP Pavilion Vista computers (which I will refer to as HP1). The printer works fine on HP1 using the direct USB connection.Set printer sharing, file sharing, and even public sharing on both HP computers (HP1 and the other one I will refer to as HP2). Workgroup name is the same. Can access HP1 and see the HP printer on HP1 from other computers in the office. However, when I try to connect to the printer from HP2 to HP1, it locks up HP1 and HP1 requires a hard reset. I tried installing the software/drivers on HP2, but HP2 still tries to install the drivers from HP1.I am not sure its a problem with HP1 as much as it is a Vista issue. The reason I say this is because I have been able to successfully use an XP computer (XP3) to connect and print to the Officejet on HP1.
I am sharing a canon mf4350d printer installed on a vista home premium edition computer. I am trying to access it on an imac using osx 10.6.8. Below are the steps I have taken so far: 1. On vista machine in the control panel I have checked off the "share this printer" box in the printers properties. 2. In the registry of the Vista machine I have changed the value of lmcompatibilitylevel from 3 to 1 and then rebooted. 3. On the Imac in system preferences I opened "Print and Fax" and clicked "+" to add a printer. 4. I clicked on the "IP" button and set the "Protocol" to "Line Printer Daemon - LPD"; in the "Address" field I entered the IP address of the vista machine; In the "Print Using" I set to "Generic PCL Laser Printer". When I try and print it can't connect to the printer and it does not print.
home network was working fine up until a few days ago. unsure what happened but my Vista laptop no longer can see my desktop, printer and backup F: drive on the network. HOWEVER, desktop can see my laptop.using linksys router WRT54GS with DSL upstairs.vista laptopWin XP desktop downstairs with attached printer and linksys wireless pc card installed Kaspersky antivirus?
I wan to access a folder shared on windows 2003 server 32bit from a Windows 7 64bit ultimate WS. but after asking password, beside giving correct password, it asks again and agian and do not show folder
My laptop (Win 7 x64) can currently access all the shares on the XP computers in my home network but, although I can see it, I cannot access the laptop from my main xp computer. I haven't tried to access it from the other xp computers downstairs. I have read the guide on this site as well as 3 or 4 other threads on this subject but am unable to resolve the issue. Completing the network setup so that I can look into my laptop from this main xp computer. My laptop has a wireless internet connection but I also have it plugged into my wired home network for sharing. I will provide other details as needed. I suspect that some essential services for file sharing may not be running on the laptop, but I'm not sure.
Trying to network between a Windows 7 computer and a Windows XP computer is possibly the hardest thing I have ever done.I have googled for hours and hours and none of the solutions seem to be working.I will try to explain what I have already done. Although I have done loads and I am sure I am missing some things.I have a Windows 7 laptop and for this exercise I shall call it WIN7. I have a Windows XP computer and for this exercise I shall call it WINXP.Both computers are in the same network which I have called SAMNETWORK. I have enabled permission to Everyone in folder sharing settings on WIN7. I have turned on Sharing and I have made myself discoverable with no password set on Network and Sharing Advanced Settings. Both user accounts on the XP and 7 machines are the same and both passwords are the same. I have turned all firewalls off. The WINXP computer has sharing enabled.
I have done a lot more things including installing LLTP (sp.?) and changing registry entries like Lsa/anonymous something like that (can't remember the actual directory) but I have changed registry entries as I have read elsewhere on the web and I have changed the network from home to work but that did nothing etc. etc. But everything that everyone suggests is just not working and I have been looking for about 4 hours now so you can imagine I have tried everything I have found!Anyway, my 7 laptop can see WINXP but when I click on it, it states that Windows cannot access \WINXP. The WINXP computer can see shared folders from WIN7 but it also states that it is not accessible. However, I did once get the WINXP computer to access the WIN7 shared folders. However, that doesn't even work now. I need the WIN7 to access the WINXP files. [code]
I am trying to add an XP computer to our (already) Win7 computer.Now...I have connected the xp computer to the external modem that gived the 7 it's signal by way of ethernet cable). I went through changing and matching up the workgroup names, and.....turned on "Network Discovery" on the 7 end....after everything is said and done...I DO get the internet signal to the xp, but knock out the 7, altogether.
I am trying to link a Windows 7 machine with a laptop running Windows XP. The workgroup on both computers is the same. On the Win7 machine, I have a couple of folders set to be shared. The first is the C Drive and the share name is C-drive. The second is Quickbooks that I have named Quickbooks. On the XP machine, I went to map network drive and in the blank typed \Remote1C-drive. It asked for username and password and just like that we were connected. But I can't see all of the files on this drive. I don't even see all of the folders - one of which is Quickbooks. So I tried \Remote1Quickbooks and Windows XP couldn't find that path even though I'm positive that folder is shared on Win7. So no matter what I try, I can't see this folder on the XP machine, I even tried copying this folder to other locations around the computer and setting up shares in hope that something would work, but it never did. So I went back to the C Drive share on the XP machine. I tried to go in reverse, creating a file and putting it on the root of the c drive (I did this on the XP machine, but the file should have actually been located on the Win7 machine. When I check Win7, the file didn't exist. So I tried the other way. I right clicked on the c drive in Win7 and created a new bitmap image file. Back to the XP laptop, that file doesn't show. But if I look at the c-drive on Win7 from the xp machine, I see several other folders and some of them like Program Files contains actual files. But some of them are just empty such as \Remote1C.
this is crazy - when i came back from out of town i tried to see if my problem still existed. it did - the win 7 laptop still could not "see" the win xp computers on the home network but all of the xp computers could see the win 7 laptop. just before sending this reply, i tried it "one more time". wa-lah, the laptop can see the other computers. this happened once before, it was seeing them, i had to leave the system and come back the next day - when i came back, the problem had returned. i did notice when i came back from out of town, my power had gone off and came back on- but this was b4 i checked it only to find the problem was still there, as just mentioned, i tried it just b4 writing this reply and the problem was no longer there. i just rebooted the laptop and as we speak, i can see all 3 of the xp computers from the win 7 laptop. i really can't make any sense out of what's going on but am beginning to think its in the modem.
So I have a desktop connected to a Thomson TG782T via the ethernet cable, (this desktop is running Windows7). I also have a laptop which allows me to use the wireless modem for the internet, (Windows XP sp3) but what I cannot seem to do is set up a network between the 2 pc's to share files, printer, and also game together.
My laptop is unable to connect to the internet. It recognizes my wireless connection (public network) as "unidentified network" and Access: "Local only." I've tried using many other solutions but I still haven't found a way to fix this. My other laptops, computers, and gaming devices are able to connect to my linksys router except for this laptop. [code]
I have 2 computers, One running Vista 32, Desktop.Another, Laptop, Win 7 64bit.Both computers have given Error 651 when using PPPoE wired connections, usually at the peak of the day.My ISP says that Error 651 is the problem, while I am starting to think its the amount of bandwidth their giving my neighborhood/home.Also, can that dosen't work, how to fix the overall problem of my Internet shutting off at peak hours?
I have Virgin Media services, I had a problem with my cable, which an engineer was booked for, but it magically fixed itself, so I cancelled the engineer. The engineer turned up for the appointment, which I was out for, then urged me over the phone to keep his number, and call me if I had any problems. I got home an hour later and my modem wouldn't sync. My guess is he did something with it outside so he would still get paid for the job. I called him up, and he came round and instantly replaced my old Virgin modem (which I was using with my own Belkin wireless router) with a new Virgin (Netgear) hub.I'm giving this bit of background to demonstrate, everything was fine before. [code] Since getting the new hub, I set up the wireless connections on the laptop and console, and internet is working fine. However none of the devices can share with eachother. When I go to network on either computer, neither computer sees either computer. All the sharing settings that I had before are unchanged, all that has changed is my modem/router combo has been replaced by a hub.
I have my Windows 7 computer and my daughters computer with Windows Vista networked over a wired home LAN. For the most part, everything seems to work fine. I can access files on her computer, and she can access files from mine (photos, music, video, etc.). I set up a shortcut icons on her desktop for easy access to specific folders I am sharing on my computer. Unfortunately, when I share a folder on my computer, she is unable to view any files added after I initially shared it. So I routinely have to go in and share the folder again. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. The limitation seems to be one way, as I can access newly added files on her computer, without resharing.
I just reinstalled my windows vista 32bit laptop and installed all network driversRight now I am trying to connect with my ethernet cable (LAN). I clicked on network connections, the LAN is enabled and the driver name is shown but there is no connectivity. Also, the IPv4 and IPv6 is not connected
So my Dad got a new Windows 7 computer, and gave me his old windows vista. When we got his computer all hooked up, and hooked up the windows Vista next to it. My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.
I have reloaded windows vista in my desktop. Every thing is working fine except that system is not detecting the lan cable. I have tried with a new cable but no luck.
got a new laptop and want to move files from an old one. Both are on the same wireless network, with the old laptop with the files having Vista, and the new one has Windows 7.I tried right clicking a folder in Vistaand 'shared' it, but don't see it on the Win 7 laptop?
I wanna change ip address 192.168.1.1 on Vista, but I couldn't find the Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) Properties according to the instructions, to the Local Area Connection Properties and nothing.I don't know whether it's because of the vista. What should I do to change ip address 192.168.1.1?
My sister and brother live next door to each other and althought they both use my sisters wifi they want to be able to homegroup or network via wifi without either of them having to use the adsl cable from the router to their laptops.. I tried setting both computers up on a homegroup network but they cannot look at each others music and documents my sister has Win 7 64bit and my brother has Win vista 32 bit ? The win7 is in English so it does not seem to hard to find things. I downloaded for my sister -Advanced IPscanner - and Netcut but netcut does not seem to work on 64 bit and the IPscanner recognizes my brothers computer but will not shut it off - they wanted to be able to know when the other is online and also be able to cut one another off when they choose to.
I need to connect a OS2 pc with Windows Server 2008. However, I have tried the Netbeau (which can work in connect with Windows Server 2000), I cannot install the Netbeau to Windows Server 2008.
