I have Virgin Media services, I had a problem with my cable, which an engineer was booked for, but it magically fixed itself, so I cancelled the engineer. The engineer turned up for the appointment, which I was out for, then urged me over the phone to keep his number, and call me if I had any problems. I got home an hour later and my modem wouldn't sync. My guess is he did something with it outside so he would still get paid for the job. I called him up, and he came round and instantly replaced my old Virgin modem (which I was using with my own Belkin wireless router) with a new Virgin (Netgear) hub.I'm giving this bit of background to demonstrate, everything was fine before. [code] Since getting the new hub, I set up the wireless connections on the laptop and console, and internet is working fine. However none of the devices can share with eachother.When I go to network on either computer, neither computer sees either computer.All the sharing settings that I had before are unchanged, all that has changed is my modem/router combo has been replaced by a hub.
My ISP provided me with a new Huawei HG521 router today and I'm trying to get our 4 family PCs to get along nicely through it.So far, one Windows 7 (SysInfo log below) and one XP machine are getting along really sweetly, with the XP printing through the W7's printer.But the 2nd W7 machine sees the 1st W7 machine, but doesn't see its printer.And the sole Vista machine connects to the internet but doesn't see either of the W7 machines, or the XP machine. My laptop is unable to connect to the internet. It recognizes my wireless connection (public network) as "unidentified network" and Access: "Local only." I've tried using many other solutions but I still haven't found a way to fix this. My other laptops, computers, and gaming devices are able to connect to my linksys router except for this laptop. here is my setup:Old laptop with all my files is running Windows Vista.New laptop I got is running Windows 7.Both are connected on the same wireless network (same router and modem).I am looking for an easy way to copy and paste several folders and gigs worth of music, movies and photos to the new laptop with Windows 7. Is there a step-by-step guide on how to get these two laptops to recognize each other, and then access the files on Vista to copy and paste into Windows 7?
The network is "connected" but the internet still does not work. I have wireless internet and a Windows Vista computer. It also says the network is unidentified.
It is running on windows vista home premium 32 bit sp1, if that matters.I have just had my computer's motherboard changed recently. After reinstalling the wireless adapter, the internet works! Until I found when I came back later that my internet shows unidentified network with limited connectivity. It happened when I was not around and my computer went into hibernate mode after downloading firefox installer. There is no antivirus installed, so it can't be a problem. My wireless adapter is the usb type,brand tplink: TL-WN721N. Tried a few methods suggested by the internet but nothing works: unchecking the iv6 box, follow the steps that starts with the regedit part, uninstall and reinstall the driver for the wireless adapter, fix the ip address.There is no problem with the network as the rest of the computers and laptops in the house has no network issues. But all of them are running on windows 7.
I'm trying to set up a windows 7 laptop and a vista computer on a home network.The vista computer accesses the lptop fine,but the laptop has the computer in the network,when you do a full map, but won't access any files. The cursor changes to a hand over the laptop name in full map, but doesn't on the vista icon?

My Laptop stopped having internet access. I am able to connect to my Linksys (says Limited Access) but then it states I do not have internet access. I read other forums and tried to do the "command prompt" but when I try to run as administrator it tells me "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I have two computers on a wired network, for simplicity I'll call them computer "A" and computer "B".Computer "A" is running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, and computer "B" is running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.I can no longer get folders from "B" (XP) to open on "A", I say no longer because I used to be able to get them to open.The folders from "B" appear on the wired network okay when viewed on "A" but when I try to open them I get the message as in the enclosed attachment.I have tried switching off the Firewalls on both computers but that has not worked.
I have a Gateway Notebook Model ML6720 that has built-in Wireless. The PC was heavily infected by Virus and I had to re-install Vista Operating system. Now, it will not detect the Wireless Adapter. I went to the maufacturer's website on another computer and downloaded the driver and installed the driver on the laptop. However, it did not work. The blue "wireless" light on the laptop is "lit", however when I go to "Device Manager" and look at the Network Drives, it only shows the wired Ethernet option.

I am passing my computer on to a family member and wanted to give them a fresh install, so I used the Windows Vista (32-bit SP1) disc that came with the laptop and reinstalled Vista on the computer. Everything worked fine until I wanted to connect to the internet, then Windows said that there were no networks available. When I selected "Why can't windows find any networks" it said that "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured". I put in the Dell Driver's and Utilities CD that came with the computer and installed the drivers that seemed related to networks or communications, but the problem persists. I'm assuming it is some sort of driver issue (as the computer was using wireless internet before the reformat (just hours ago) and so the device itself seems to be working.
I recently installed a new RV120W router at one of my customer's office. I have 2 users connecting using the Quick VPN software.The first one is running on a Windows XP Pro SP3. Everything works great on this PC.The second PC is running on a Windows Vista - The QUICKVPN client stays at Veryfing Network and Eventually I get an error " The remote gateway is not responding. I have just spent an hour with TalkTalk technical support being told that the new router they supplied today can only be used wirelessly for Vista or W7 but not both together. Am i going mad. Both connect to the router but my Vista laptop will not connect to the internet and will only show as an unidentified public network.

edit I tried to disable the autoscaling feature in windows and it did not work /I am running windows vista home 32bit/I can connect to the router now I had the wrong security type selected WPA instead of WPA2, but it still reports local only, I checked my router logs and it shows that it connects but it does not give me information on if it is blocking the laptop from the internet or if my laptop is. I have tried turning off the windows firewall and resetting it as well now.
I have tried the things listed below
- uninstall and reinstall windows wireless adapter drivers through computer managment
- disablied IPv6 through wirless adapter properties (unchecking the box)
- reset my rounter entirely (after which I can no longer connect to the router at all, where as before I did this I was able to connect to my router but it was local only) held the reset button for 10 or more seconds plus unplugged my modem and router for 5 mins, I know its alot of time for that but I was eating but regardless, after which I turned on my modem let all the lights go through their setup then I turned on the router let all the lights do their thing, and then my laptop to make sure everything picked up new settings.
-something threw me off also under computer managment under the network adapters there were ipv6 to ipv4 "tunnels" or something, they had the yellow warning sign on it.
I have a hp laptop, it's about two years old. I can connect to my wireless network, but i have no internet access. I also have a macbook, and it's accessing my wireless network perfectly fine.

We have three desktops...2 Macs and a windows vista...my brother has a windows vista laptop, my mum has a Macbook laptop and for Christmas I got a windows 7 laptop! I have a wired BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 firmware. It has been working fine with several varieties of W98SE, W2000, and XP machines over the years.When I installed VMWare a couple years ago, I noticed that the Vista VM didn't connect to the router. Since I was just testing some local stuff, I didn't bother to investigate or resolve the problem. Now I have a new HP Windows 7 machine, and it doesn't connect when connected to the router. The diagnostic doesn't think the cable is plugged in. When I plug the DSL modem directly into the W7 box, I can connect to the internet just fine. Also, I notice that when I plug the modem into the W7 box, there are some LEDs that flash on the network card inside the box.
However, when I plug the cable from the router (the same one that normally works fine with the XP machine) into the Windows 7 box, none of the LEDs on the network card flash. This is probably a hint that things aren't working.
I tried disabling the IPv6 protocol. That didn't work. I have the latest firmware for the V2.1 according to the Linksys support site. I tried a different cable. I tried several resets from the pinhole in the front of the router, several power cycles, and reboots of the W7 box.So I'm guessing that the BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 is incompatible with Vista and Windows 7.

Since some days we have a ASA5510, we connected it on a Windows Vista Laptop via ethernet cable (using at the back of the router the mgtm slot) and connect it on the network slot on the laptop. Laptop is getting IP addresses automatically.

I just got a new computer at work and it has Windows 8 on it. My old computer ran on XP and was connected to two different computers with access to the My Documents folder on each computer. That is all I need access to. I have tried everything to get my new computer set up so that I can have access to those two folders as they are extremely important for my job. I mapped the network drives from both computers to my new one and they access to my computer. When I worked from the Windows 8 computer and tried to access those computers I received an error message saying that access was denied and to contact my network administrator. I have access to other folders on the XP and Vista computer except the folder that I need to get into. I have brought in two different people who do freelance work and neither one was able to figure this problem out. For four days that I have been unable to properly do my job and I have just been emailing files and documents to myself. The XP and Vista computer do not need networked together either.

I have my Windows 7 computer and my daughters computer with Windows Vista networked over a wired home LAN. For the most part, everything seems to work fine. I can access files on her computer, and she can access files from mine (photos, music, video, etc.). I set up a shortcut icons on her desktop for easy access to specific folders I am sharing on my computer. Unfortunately, when I share a folder on my computer, she is unable to view any files added after I initially shared it. So I routinely have to go in and share the folder again. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. The limitation seems to be one way, as I can access newly added files on her computer, without resharing.
I just reinstalled my windows vista 32bit laptop and installed all network driversRight now I am trying to connect with my ethernet cable (LAN). I clicked on network connections, the LAN is enabled and the driver name is shown but there is no connectivity. Also, the IPv4 and IPv6 is not connected
So my Dad got a new Windows 7 computer, and gave me his old windows vista. When we got his computer all hooked up, and hooked up the windows Vista next to it. My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.
