New Router - Windows 7 Can't See Vista On Network
Feb 14, 2012I have Virgin Media services, I had a problem with my cable, which an engineer was booked for, but it magically fixed itself, so I cancelled the engineer. The engineer turned up for the appointment, which I was out for, then urged me over the phone to keep his number, and call me if I had any problems. I got home an hour later and my modem wouldn't sync. My guess is he did something with it outside so he would still get paid for the job. I called him up, and he came round and instantly replaced my old Virgin modem (which I was using with my own Belkin wireless router) with a new Virgin (Netgear) hub.I'm giving this bit of background to demonstrate, everything was fine before. [code] Since getting the new hub, I set up the wireless connections on the laptop and console, and internet is working fine. However none of the devices can share with eachother.When I go to network on either computer, neither computer sees either computer.All the sharing settings that I had before are unchanged, all that has changed is my modem/router combo has been replaced by a hub.

Jul 2, 2011My ISP provided me with a new Huawei HG521 router today and I'm trying to get our 4 family PCs to get along nicely through it.So far, one Windows 7 (SysInfo log below) and one XP machine are getting along really sweetly, with the XP printing through the W7's printer.But the 2nd W7 machine sees the 1st W7 machine, but doesn't see its printer.And the sole Vista machine connects to the internet but doesn't see either of the W7 machines, or the XP machine. Mar 18, 2010I have a wired BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 firmware. It has been working fine with several varieties of W98SE, W2000, and XP machines over the years.When I installed VMWare a couple years ago, I noticed that the Vista VM didn't connect to the router. Since I was just testing some local stuff, I didn't bother to investigate or resolve the problem. Now I have a new HP Windows 7 machine, and it doesn't connect when connected to the router. The diagnostic doesn't think the cable is plugged in. When I plug the DSL modem directly into the W7 box, I can connect to the internet just fine. Also, I notice that when I plug the modem into the W7 box, there are some LEDs that flash on the network card inside the box.
However, when I plug the cable from the router (the same one that normally works fine with the XP machine) into the Windows 7 box, none of the LEDs on the network card flash. This is probably a hint that things aren't working.
I tried disabling the IPv6 protocol. That didn't work. I have the latest firmware for the V2.1 according to the Linksys support site. I tried a different cable. I tried several resets from the pinhole in the front of the router, several power cycles, and reboots of the W7 box.So I'm guessing that the BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 is incompatible with Vista and Windows 7.

After reinstalling the wireless adapter, the internet works! Until I found when I came back later that my internet shows unidentified network with limited connectivity. It happened when I was not around and my computer went into hibernate mode after downloading firefox installer. There is no antivirus installed, so it can't be a problem. Tried a few methods suggested by the internet but nothing works: unchecking the iv6 box, follow the steps that starts with the regedit part, uninstall and reinstall the driver for the wireless adapter, fix the ip address.There is no problem with the network as the rest of the computers and laptops in the house has no network issues. When I selected "Why can't windows find any networks" it said that "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured". edit I tried to disable the autoscaling feature in windows and it did not work /I am running windows vista home 32bit/I can connect to the router now I had the wrong security type selected WPA instead of WPA2, but it still reports local only, I checked my router logs and it shows that it connects but it does not give me information on if it is blocking the laptop from the internet or if my laptop is. I have tried turning off the windows firewall and resetting it as well now.
I have tried the things listed below
- uninstall and reinstall windows wireless adapter drivers through computer managment
- disablied IPv6 through wirless adapter properties (unchecking the box)
- reset my rounter entirely (after which I can no longer connect to the router at all, where as before I did this I was able to connect to my router but it was local only) held the reset button for 10 or more seconds plus unplugged my modem and router for 5 mins, I know its alot of time for that but I was eating but regardless, after which I turned on my modem let all the lights go through their setup then I turned on the router let all the lights do their thing, and then my laptop to make sure everything picked up new settings.
-something threw me off also under computer managment under the network adapters there were ipv6 to ipv4 "tunnels" or something, they had the yellow warning sign on it.

Linksys E2000 - Vista Does Not Recognize Wireless Network?
Jan 15, 2011After reinstalling Vista, Vista does not recognize my wireless network. I know that the wireless network is working because my i-Touch and my blue-ray (internet streaming) still are working with the Cisco/Linksys E2000. I made sure that the wireless switch on my Gateway laptop was in the on position. The wireless hardware does not show up in the hardware control panel. Is this a driver issue or a hardware issue? It does not seem that it would be a hardware problem.
My Gateway is still under warranty thru Best Buy. If it's a hardware problem, it's covered but if it's a software problem(I take it that a driver would be software), they want $100 to fix. This is what brings me to a second question, if it's a driver issue, should I just upgrade to Window 7? Does Window 7 have build in drivers for wireless hardware?

My old computer ran on XP and was connected to two different computers with access to the My Documents folder on each computer. That is all I need access to. I mapped the network drives from both computers to my new one and they access to my computer. When I worked from the Windows 8 computer and tried to access those computers I received an error message saying that access was denied and to contact my network administrator. I have brought in two different people who do freelance work and neither one was able to figure this problem out. Apr 21, 2011I recently decided to set up my xp pc again in my bedroom. Set up everything and it wont connect to the router or see my other pc. The router and PC don't seem to see it either. So far I've made sure the Workgroup's are named the same. I've tried allowing it to obtain it's own IP as well as setting a manual default setting. When I allow it to obtain it's own IP I get a limited connectivity error. If I set default settings that error goes away but I still can't get online still or see the rest of the network. It will only ping itself. Pinging yahoo.com, my other PC or other ip addresses time out. Also there are no device errors in device manager. Everything says it's operating correctly. I've tried resetting default settings on the router. I've unplugged and replugged in everything, powering on modem/router/pc. Nothing seems to work.
The problem computer is an AMD Athlon (64) 3500+ 2.2ghz with 1g ram running Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 service pack 3. The Router is a Linksys BEFSR41. The Ipconfig /all for it is below:
