I have just spent an hour with TalkTalk technical support being told that the new router they supplied today can only be used wirelessly for Vista or W7 but not both together. Am i going mad. Both connect to the router but my Vista laptop will not connect to the internet and will only show as an unidentified public network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Virgin Media services, I had a problem with my cable, which an engineer was booked for, but it magically fixed itself, so I cancelled the engineer. The engineer turned up for the appointment, which I was out for, then urged me over the phone to keep his number, and call me if I had any problems. I got home an hour later and my modem wouldn't sync. My guess is he did something with it outside so he would still get paid for the job. I called him up, and he came round and instantly replaced my old Virgin modem (which I was using with my own Belkin wireless router) with a new Virgin (Netgear) hub.I'm giving this bit of background to demonstrate, everything was fine before. [code] Since getting the new hub, I set up the wireless connections on the laptop and console, and internet is working fine. However none of the devices can share with eachother.When I go to network on either computer, neither computer sees either computer.All the sharing settings that I had before are unchanged, all that has changed is my modem/router combo has been replaced by a hub.

I recently had virus infections removed from someone who used AVIRA and MBAM (malaware anti bytes)
edit I tried to disable the autoscaling feature in windows and it did not work /I am running windows vista home 32bit/I can connect to the router now I had the wrong security type selected WPA instead of WPA2, but it still reports local only, I checked my router logs and it shows that it connects but it does not give me information on if it is blocking the laptop from the internet or if my laptop is. I have tried turning off the windows firewall and resetting it as well now.
I have tried the things listed below
- uninstall and reinstall windows wireless adapter drivers through computer managment
- disablied IPv6 through wirless adapter properties (unchecking the box)
- reset my rounter entirely (after which I can no longer connect to the router at all, where as before I did this I was able to connect to my router but it was local only) held the reset button for 10 or more seconds plus unplugged my modem and router for 5 mins, I know its alot of time for that but I was eating but regardless, after which I turned on my modem let all the lights go through their setup then I turned on the router let all the lights do their thing, and then my laptop to make sure everything picked up new settings.
-something threw me off also under computer managment under the network adapters there were ipv6 to ipv4 "tunnels" or something, they had the yellow warning sign on it.
can't connect a windows 7 to above.

We have three desktops...2 Macs and a windows vista...my brother has a windows vista laptop, my mum has a Macbook laptop and for Christmas I got a windows 7 laptop! But that's not all that relevant because all I am really interested in is setting up file sharing between my old vista desktop and my new windows 7 laptop, so I can transfer my music, etc across. (I know that I could easily do this by other methods but I want filesharing set up for the future).Both computers are wirelessly connected to a Netgear router.Initially i tried fiddling around with various network settings and I've managed to get the two computers to recognise each other...and they can access the 'public' folder. I tried fiddling with advanced sharing to let them access other folders which appear as shared folders, but when i tried to access them from the other computer i was denied access.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a wired BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 firmware. It has been working fine with several varieties of W98SE, W2000, and XP machines over the years.When I installed VMWare a couple years ago, I noticed that the Vista VM didn't connect to the router. Since I was just testing some local stuff, I didn't bother to investigate or resolve the problem. Now I have a new HP Windows 7 machine, and it doesn't connect when connected to the router. The diagnostic doesn't think the cable is plugged in. When I plug the DSL modem directly into the W7 box, I can connect to the internet just fine. Also, I notice that when I plug the modem into the W7 box, there are some LEDs that flash on the network card inside the box.
However, when I plug the cable from the router (the same one that normally works fine with the XP machine) into the Windows 7 box, none of the LEDs on the network card flash. This is probably a hint that things aren't working.
I tried disabling the IPv6 protocol. That didn't work. I have the latest firmware for the V2.1 according to the Linksys support site. I tried a different cable. I tried several resets from the pinhole in the front of the router, several power cycles, and reboots of the W7 box.So I'm guessing that the BEFSR41 V2.1 with 1.46.02 is incompatible with Vista and Windows 7.
My ISP provided me with a new Huawei HG521 router today and I'm trying to get our 4 family PCs to get along nicely through it.So far, one Windows 7 (SysInfo log below) and one XP machine are getting along really sweetly, with the XP printing through the W7's printer.But the 2nd W7 machine sees the 1st W7 machine, but doesn't see its printer.And the sole Vista machine connects to the internet but doesn't see either of the W7 machines, or the XP machine. View 2 Replies View RelatedSince some days we have a ASA5510, we connected it on a Windows Vista Laptop via ethernet cable (using at the back of the router the mgtm slot) and connect it on the network slot on the laptop. Laptop is getting IP addresses automatically.
Now we tried to reach the router in the Internet Explorer using: http://192.168.1.1, but we could not reach this site. When I try to ping the router via cmd and typing ping 192.168.1.1 I get answers.
For us it is very important to change the IP address of the router, as he will be used in a network with 10.xxx.xxx.xx addresses.
I am using Windows Vista.I work in a small office and our old computer guy set up our network. Not sure why, but he "hid" the two available wireless networks so they do not show up as available. How do I go about "unhiding" them? He left a folder on my computer that says "main router config" but it is a .bin file and I cannot open it. I did find out what our IP address is, but when I type it in the URL it does not show up.

I am not too sure what other info I need to put here.My connection used to drop frequently (around every 5 min) and I would have really slow speeds (10ish kb/s). Recently, for some unknown reason, the dropping has stopped, but now I am getting speeds of around 9-15 kb/s.
The thing that has me COMPLETELY stumped is when I plug my laptop into the router, the wireless speed on my PC speeds up to, according to speedtest.net, 5.8 Mbps. If I unplug the laptop from the router,the speed on my PC slows down to .25 Mbps, yes - POINT .25 Mbps.I have attached the tester .
I have a desktop PC running WinXP I recently got a laptop running Win7. I Set both of them up with the same workgroup name, and now my XP machine can see and access my laptop, but my lap can't see my XP machine. If it makes any difference, I can remote into my XP from my laptop, but that's not what I need.

I have been traveling all over Germany and automatically detecting internet wherever I go however I cannot detect the dlink wireless access point directly across from me. My work computer is detecting and connecting just fine. I see other wireless networks just not the one I have a password for so I cannot connect. I have reset and seperately restarted the wireless access point but no luck. I am in desperate need of this wireless access. There is no line I can plug into manually either. I have also tried to manually set up the network and that either did not work or I did not go about it correctly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am hoping to be able to connect remotely to my friend's Vista laptop (connected to the Internet via a dial-up in a developing country) from my own wireless broadband PC (Win 7).
Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? And would both of us need the same type of software to allow me to connect?
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Laptop. Normally I just use wireless wherever I am but now I need to hard wire to the computer. It was initially working for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Now whenever I plug the cable in, it shows it as being connected but comes up as local only so I can't browse or do anything.
I have tried:
-Restarting the machine
-Ensuring that windows was picking up the IP addresses automatically
-Checking the connection on another computer, works fine.
-Disabling the IpV6
-Disabling/Enabling the LAN connection in the Manage network connections setup
-Uninstalling, re installing the driver for the ethernet adapter
-System Restore
I've also tried in safe mode with networking and have disabled any firewalls that were running.Again, most of the time I never use the hard wired connection, but whenever I have, it hasn't had any problems until now.It always comes up as being connected, but says local only.

I have a Gateway Notebook Model ML6720 that has built-in Wireless. The PC was heavily infected by Virus and I had to re-install Vista Operating system. Now, it will not detect the Wireless Adapter. I went to the maufacturer's website on another computer and downloaded the driver and installed the driver on the laptop. However, it did not work. The blue "wireless" light on the laptop is "lit", however when I go to "Device Manager" and look at the Network Drives, it only shows the wired Ethernet option.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy onboard network adaptor card died so I bought a Rock USB lan Card RJ-45. It worked for 30 mins then just stopped working. When I look at the device driver details, it recognises it, and also says the drivers are up to date. When i try to connect to the modem for internet connection it says ....There might be a problem with the driver for the Local Area Connection 4 adaptor. A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken....Ichanged the cable, still same message, I went to the internet on another computer to download drivers but it still says drivers are up to date. My system is a hp p6380a home pc. Running windows 7 64 bit. Im thinking that it might be a faulty usb card but when I spoke to a guy at a computer shop he said that they are not compatible with 64bit computers. Ok then why did it work for 30 - 1hour.
