a friend of mine who is an electrical engineer said that the level of radiation from a powerline extender(such as Netgear produce) is much greater than from a wireless network, as it has to 'overcome' the radiation of the house electrical circuit. As my daughter is chronically sick, we are very concerned to arrive at a solution which results in the lowest level of radiation possible.
View 1 RepliesI am installing an LED digital sign. The sign is 200 feet away from the controlling computer which has a sending card. The sign has a recieving card inside. Probably not a bright idea at this long distance, but I ran the cat 5 along with the 12/2 power line to the sign. When firing up the sign, the recieving card in the sign is not getting data. I tried it again with another cat5 seperated by ten feet or more from the power line, and still no communication. My question is, could the radiation from the 120v line have penetrated the cat 5 and basically fried the receiving card?

It needs to be specific for the 1140 AP as the antenna has a Maximum gain of 3 dBi which is different than the antenna gain on the 1130 AP.

However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong.It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines.Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).
I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?
My computer is a 32 bit, Win7 SP1 with Pentium Dual Core 2.6 Ghz and 2Gb of Ram on a wired network. My wife has a similar system using a wireless network. She can ping my IP Address, but I cannot ping hers. We both have full access to the Internet. We are using the same workgroup, and both computers have file and printer sharing enabled and IPv6 addresses and DNS server addresses selected automatically.The problem appears to be with my computer?

It is a wired connection and does not appear to use a modem, the wire comes in directly through the wall (strange i know, but apparently it's common here in russia).The provider uses its own dialup/connection program which appears on the desktop. double click it and the computer connects to the internet - at least it used to.Now when you open the program it says the internet is connected, however it is not. if i open the status tab it gives the following information:
IPv4 Connectivity: No network access
IPv6 Connectivity: No network access
Media State: Connected.[code].....

I have a router that will be used to allow open access to the internet without allowing direct access to the existing network, There is no ethernet connection in the area and this router was ree with limited features. So no Wifi as WAN I want to use the desktop's ethernet NIC to obtain a WAN connection. For now I can not setup a VLAN and must configure the two networks as poorly described. Sadly I am not familiar with bridging connections in XP and am unsure about specifics. Also, as a quick test, I bridged the connections and lost wireless connectivity.

All I did was plug her Ethernet cable into my port on the back of my motherboard. I didn't touch any other cables or settings. At first I thought that it was my switch so I plugged the wire directly into the wall and it still disconnected Then I thought it must be a bad networking card so I replaced that yesterday and it disconnected again. Like I said, it only happens a couple of times per day which wouldn't be so bad except that sometimes I have a Citrix session going or my Great Plains Dynamics program open and I have to go kick myself out of those sessions.

I run and admin it, so the chances that anyone else has changed anything is essentially zero.This computer has a wired network connection (The issue) and a wireless one. They are connected to two separate networks. A few days ago the wired card stopped getting an IP address from my router, always ended up with a 169 address. Eventually I just disabled it, and installed a PCI network card.
Now what happens is that all works fine for a while, then stops. Suddenly I am "Not connected to network" despite the fact my ip address hasn't changed. I run the network troubleshooter, it tells me the "Gateway is unreachable" Resets the network card, and all is good. Then after a while the network fails again. I did already scan with malwarebytes, and everything is fine as fat as its concerned.

Normally I have no problems connecting to any and all wireless routers. Recently, my internet quit without warning. I've tried connecting via a hardline, and I've tried resetting pretty much every router and connection on campus, with no luck. Everyone else is still able to connect with no problems.When I connect to a campus wireless connection, it connects, but gives me the error "rseau non identifi, pas d'acc�s Internet" (translates to "unidentified wire/network, no internet access"If I run diagnostics on my network card, it finds the problem as an invalid IP configuration:

I have a dell desktop running windows vista that connects to my wireless router with a cable. I have an HP laptop that is running windows 7 that is wireless.When I look at network computers on the dell I get an error message that says that the computer is not accessible. The same thing happens when I try to log onto the desktop from the laptop. When I try to run the network wizard from the desktop, I see see connect to the internet, connect to a wireless router or access point, setup a dialup connection and connect to a workplace.None of them make sense but I tried connect to a wireless router and got a message that said to set it up manually or set up a flash drive, neither of which makes sense. I tried set it up manually and all that happened is the router setup screen opened up.I tried the same thing on the laptop and the setup the network wizard opened a screen that said choose a wireless router or access point to configure, but nothing ever showed up on that screen.
