Unknown Computers On A Wired Network?
Apr 1, 2011I use a Ethernet Powerline adapter.Right now, there are 5 other computers on my wired network, and i don't know what they are. What are they doing there, and how do i get them out?

Found Two Unknown Computers In Secured Network
Dec 13, 2011I found two unknown computers on my network (using Explorer). I have a wireless setup at home (private) with a desktop (wired), two laptops and a phone (wireless).The encryption is WPA2/TKP with a hard to guess password. The two unknown computers were connected this morning and a few minutes after I tried to access them and do some checks,they disappeared could they have been watching me? I didn't check the router page until then and of course, they weren't there.Also, yesterday I was at a coffee place, so could it be that this is nothing and those two computers are from people at the cafe? Is there anything I can do to make sure nobody can access my network, unless it's the computers I want. I haven't manually set up a home network yet. [code]

Nov 2, 2012I have a dell desktop running windows vista that connects to my wireless router with a cable. I have an HP laptop that is running windows 7 that is wireless.When I look at network computers on the dell I get an error message that says that the computer is not accessible. The same thing happens when I try to log onto the desktop from the laptop. When I try to run the network wizard from the desktop, I see see connect to the internet, connect to a wireless router or access point, setup a dialup connection and connect to a workplace.None of them make sense but I tried connect to a wireless router and got a message that said to set it up manually or set up a flash drive, neither of which makes sense. I tried set it up manually and all that happened is the router setup screen opened up.I tried the same thing on the laptop and the setup the network wizard opened a screen that said choose a wireless router or access point to configure, but nothing ever showed up on that screen.

Jul 14, 2011Our wireless clients that connect through our AP541N cannot see other computers on the network. They can ping other computers by IP and host name and access the internet OK. Mapped network drives can be connected initially but are very unreliable and always end up disconnecting. Restarting the computer does not work. When these computers are wired they see the network as expected. why my wireless network would behave differently then the wired? The wired and wireless networks are on the same VLAN. The wireless clients are all Windows 7 systems.

A wireshark capture on the computer not working shows that the computer receives a EAP Request Identity and also send a Response Identity to the switch but then nothing happens more: So the process is stucked in the EAP-Response/identity. Apr 24, 2013From Chrome when I try to download from a file sharing site I get "Unknown network error". And from firefox I get "source file could not be read". From internet explorer it just stops. The downloads don't even get halfway thew before failing. I didn't have this problem with this computer previously before I moved. I'm using the same access point and same internet connection. One thing I notice is that windows network center shows at times that I'm not connected to the internet but I'm still able to browse and use the internet. The disconnected icon only lasts for a few seconds in network center.So I think its some kind of settings or access point issue. However, I can not see other computers on the remote network. I can not ping them. When I open my Network page, I still see the computers on my local network.
All machines are running Windows 7 Ultimate. ISP is Comcast at both locations. WAN IP's are dynamic, but have not changed in over a year. Local IP's on the remote (home) network are static..[url]....

Apr 9, 2012I recently purchased a Linksys EA4500 Dual-Band N900 Router with Gigabit and USB. Everything set up great with no problems and after a day or 2 I managed to get all home devices connected (2 laptops, 2 printers, an iphone, 1 tv, 1 blu-ray, an old desktop, and a tablet). Everything was connected right and working and I installed the Linksys app on my iPhone which let me see what devices were connected and all that. Well, last night, an unknown device showed up as a connected device. It's labeled as: android_(insert string of characters) and has a MAC address. I've tried and tried to identify what this device is and I can't. Everything else on our network is still showing up independently of that device. I'm worried that someone using our connection and possibly putting our device security at risk. What can I do to A) try to identify what the device is and B) if it is an intruder, block it's access.

Linksys RV082 WAN2: 192.168.3.0/24
Linksys RV082 LAN: 192.168.5.0/24
Firewall (2 Nics): Nic1 is 192.168.5.0/24 and Nic2 is 192.168.1.0/24
LAN: 192.168.1.0/24
RV082 WAN 2: Configured with a DHCP IP Address from DSL Internet Router so it has 192.168.3.0/24 range IP.
Load Balancing enabled
Static Route added on RV082: 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.5.x interface LAN
Firewall PC is completely Open as i was using it before.
I had a Fortgate 60B and everything worked fine, then a bought a RV082 and now i can get this up and running properly.The thing is this....whit the actual setup i have, computers only can navigate through HTTP web pages, other ports seem to be closed, but if the Firewall PC was blocking this i guess i'll know because it shows a message on screen when a policy is being applied. If i try to open HTTPS Pages it doesnt work, Even a simple pinng to google.com doesn't work from my LAN (192.168.1.0/24), but if i connect a computer on a local port on RV082 i can PING and i can browse anywere i want.
It seems to be that Firewall PC is causing problems but i execute a tracert to [url]...., the packet get stuck in the RV082.What im thinking is that maybe the RV082 doesn't allow to go trhu at all if the traffic comes from other networks that doesn't belong to the one configured on its LAN side.By the way the Firewall PC connected to the RV082 directly navigates perfectly.
PS. The reason im using Firewall PC is because that way is much easier and flexible to handle policies for Internal users than in the RV082 Router. I use this ume basically to set up VPN IPSEC and Dual WAN Load Balancing.

Nov 3, 2011It may be a coincidence but my Broadcom Network Adapter 802.11g stopped working after trying to fix 'unknown device' in Device Manager (It was working perfectly before this).OS: Windows 7 Starter on 'BenQ Joybook Lite U105'.I tried the Windows Network trouble shooter and it didn't work (saying there may be a problem with the driver. I uninstalled the driver and re-installed it (including a possibly newer one) and it didn't work. Within 'Network Connections" the Broadcom wireless adapter is shown as 'disabled' I R-clicked to enable it, a window popped up saying it was enabled but it still showed as being disabled. My feeling is that something is preventing it from being enabled, logically, I would guess. Also went to 'Component Services' and ether started or restarted everything with the word network on it still no luck..My Google search on an other pc , now on day 3, couldn't find anything. (BTW the 'unknown device' which according to the icon, seems to be the joybook itself, is still not fixed and still listed as 'unknown device').

Oct 7, 2011I have a wireless router which works just fine. I can connect my laptop as well as my iPad to it. I also have a hard wire connection that goes to my computer which works just fine. how can I get my computer to see the other computers in the network? They just don't show up even though I have shared enabled. There is only one router, so I thought it might be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be.

May 3, 2011My home network was made up of a desktop running windows XP home (wired) and a desktop also running XP (wireless). I have recently added a desktop running Windows 7 (wireless) to the system. When I turn on the Windows 7 machine, it sees the other two machines and I use the files from them easily. But after the new machine has been on awhile, it does not see the other computers. (I can, however, still access the shared files on it (the Windows 7 machine) from the other desktop (haven't checked the laptop). If I power down the Windows 7 and then turn it back on, the other machines show up immediately. I've got them all named to the same workgroup and in the network settings in the control panel, I think that it is set to discover the network.
