Routers / Switches :: Setup An Home Network With A Wireless Router And Use Multiple Switches?
Jan 29, 2011I want to setup an home network with a wireless router and use multiple switches for wired connections through out my home. I currently have an Airport extreme hooked up to a cable modem and a leviton gateway hooked up to the Airport. The 2 computers connected to the Leviton are on a windows 7 homegroup and share fine, but won't share or discover any wireless device connected to Airport. My main goal is to have a wireless/wired network with all computers sharing information with each other. I want 2-3 wired switches/gateways with a min of 2 devices connected to each, connected to my wireless router whiich is connected to cable modem.

Oct 25, 2011when my Linux VM is running!How's this for a mystery - last night I noticed that I could no longer access my gmail. Thought it might be down. This morning, I still couldn't access it. Thought I would try comcast, no joy either. Changed computers, no difference. Changed routers, no difference. Bought a new router and started plugging in network cables one at a time. My main machine first, everything works - http and https sites, a second computer, all good. The switch. Fine. Powerline. Still good. Then I plug in a Windows server running a Linux VM. Https sites on all the other machines stop working. Pause the Linux VM, restart router - https sites return to life. Went to Linux machine, re-enabled ipv6 (the only recent change on the Linux machine was to disable ipv6 since upon a reboot, Linux didn't have an ipv4 address). Restart Linux everything seems fine. A few hours go by, try to connect my wife's new laptop and at that moment wireless seems to stop. Restart router, wireless is back. But lo and behold, https is gone again. Unplug the machine that has the Linux VM, restart router, all is good.Ever see anything this weird?

May 31, 2011can't access gmail or any https sites at all such as fnb.co.za or auction sites ect... I've tried resetting my rooter, configured all the settings as they were when working, I have basically gone into my network & sharing centre and change adapter settings to make sure all the settings there are as should be, reset , & config all of those as well, I've also gone into cmd and reset my D-link completelly from the command, and also tried to restore my computer to an earlier stage which did not work either , Now all I can gather is that It has to be a block some where most likely with the rooter , which is blocking access to port 443.

Feb 28, 2011We are in the process of installing time clocks at some of our sites around the USA. Our security department has asked that the time clocks be completely isolated from the rest of the network. The time clocks will be administered by ADP via a centralized firewall utilizing NAT. We have multiple subnets available at each site. Let me give an example to calrify what I would like to do. Example: Site A has 10.168.19.0 /24 user subnet and is configured for VLAN1 using 10.168.19.1 on the router as the default gateway. I would like to use subnet 10.168.20.0 /24 for the time clocks, configure it for VLAN2 and use 10.168.20.1 as the router gateway address for VLAN2. This should allow me to NAT one of our additional public IP addresses to the 10.168.20.1 gateway address thus completely isolating the time clocks from the remainder of the network. Problem is I have not done this before so I'm a little confused about how to configure it in the Cisco 3750 switches.

The way it is set up is we have a Verizon DSL Modem that comes in then I have a router with it that splits the signal to 4 other routers that each split the signal 2 to 3 more times. I have to use routers so that it assigns IP addresses.I bought a new D-Line N300 Wireless router with USB imput. I want to attach my Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud edition to the 1st router (attached to the modem) and then share the data off that hard drive with everyone connected to the sub routers.

Apr 7, 2011At my company, we lease 3 static public IP addresses from 1 ISP. We want to have 3 separate networks that each use one of the IP addresses. Network 1 is the computer network, network 2 is the VOIP network, and network 3 is the security camera network. I am trying to determine the best way to do this. I have come up with 2 solutions in my head, but I'm not sure if they will work or not. I would like to get some input. Solution 1:Solution 1 looks something like this. Fiber box -> Router-> 3 switches. There would be one WAN input on the router, that would have a static route to 3 different LAN ports. For example, address 24.244.208.101 would be assigned to LAN port 1, 24.244.208.102 would be assigned to LAN port 2, and 24.244.208.103 would be assigned to LAN port 3 (by assigned, I mean have a static route to it). Is there some type of router that is capable of doing this? Solution 2:Solution 2 looks something like this. Fiber box -> Switch -> 3 Routers. The ethernet cable would run from the Fiber Box to a switch, and then 3 routers would be plugged into the switch. Each router would have the Static information configured in them. Would both of these methods work? If so, which would be the best way to go?

Jan 23, 2011I'm going to move offices into a shared situation with 3 companies. Each company will want its own private network so there's no snooping between companies. I am planning on using VOIP for the phone system (Nextiva cloud based). Is it possible to set up the system so that each company has access to the VOIP system but yet remains sequestered in the their own network for everything else. I was hoping to do this with one data port at each workstation using Cisco SPA-303 phones. The way I understand this, is that the phone plugs in to the data port and you daisy chain the workstation off from each phone. Is this possible to do this while having the system I described? Another wrinkle is that I'd also like all the networks to be access shared printers.

Any step by step,or class room or web based training, or a partner or Cisco helper to get us up to speed on this.Goal is to limit http and https traffic in favor of telnet to an AIX server and RDP to a Windows TS. Printing would be ahead of http/s and below the others.

Cisco Switches :: Management HTTPS Session To SF200-24 Suddenly Timeout
May 6, 2013what would be causing my management HTTPS session to a SF200-24 to suddenly timeout? I receive "The session has been timed out. You may log in again" few mins after logging into to switch.Sometime it happens within 45seconds, other times after 3mins, timouts are not consistent. And, i was not idle when it timed-out. My HTTPs idle time-out is set for 10mins.
I had a continuous PING going to managment IP, and it did not drop any pings when session timed-out.Interface stats are also clean. I tried IE, FireFox, Chrome and all are timming out.
I've changed the HTTP default idle-time out from 1 to 10 and my HTTPs stopped timing out. Management Access Authentication is cleary set for HTTPs, and the Idle-timeout for HTTPs was set for 10mins since install. Yet, adjusting the HTTP idle-timeout cleared the issue.

Jul 17, 2012I was looking for configuring QOS for two VLANS i have created. these will be for voice traffic vlan 22 and video traffic vlan23. i also have three other vlans for pc's, wireless devices and our cnc machines. we have 5 switches that are all SG30028P's with a single switch doing the intervlan routing (operating at layer 3). all of the switches are trunked back to the main switch and ive been through the guide written on how to do this on a single switch which i dont think is layer 3.

VLAN 200 Wireless

1) For managing the switches via IP, will LAN1 be the default management network? Should I create a seperate VLAN for managing the switches?
2) For uplinking the switches together, I plan to trunk a port to connect the switches together. What's the configuration on the trunk port to forward all vlans from one switch to another?
3) On some ports, I want to configure a trunk for two vlans (Data and Voice) where the phone has a pass through for PC. The phone supports tagging for the PC and the VoIP traffic. For example on port 10, would VLAN 100 and 300 be set to tagged?

Jan 19, 2012I'm having alot of trouble trying to connect more that one LAG between two SG300-52 switches.Basically i have configured both switches with the same vlans. For 2 of the vlans i would like to connect them together between the two switches using LAG. Switch1 has Vlan 5 (ports 1-12) & Vlan 10 (Ports 25-36) with LAG configured on ports 1-2 and ports 25-26. I have setup the second switch identical to the first. But when i connect the LAG's there is no connectivty. If i disconnect one LAG the other starts working.Can you only have i interconnect LAG between switches?

The router is connected to one of my three SG 300 10 Cisco switches (connected to one another via uplink port). Now I want all switches to send multicast traffic to only the recipients of such traffic (PCs with VLC and Network Media Players) connected to either one of them. How do I have to configure the switches to do so and not flood the LAN with multicast traffic, is it enough to enable IGMP Snooping on each switch?

Aug 13, 2011I just received a new Cisco SG300-10 and am configuring it in Layer 3 mode. I am trying to setup multiple routed VLANs going back to a FiOS Actiontec router. My configuration is as follows.
Fios Router: 192.168.1.1
Assigning DHCP 192.168.1.2 through 100.
SG300-10 has VLan 1 ip 192.168.1.5 used for Mgmt.
VLAN2 is 10.0.2.1
VLAN3 is 10.0.3.1.
I have a static route set on the fios router for both subnets setup as follows.
Destination 10.0.3.0 Gateway 192.168.1.5 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Metric 1
Destination 10.0.2.0 Gateway 192.168.1.5 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Metric 1
I have a laptop connected to Gi8 on the Cisco (Vlan 3) and statically assigned 10.0.3.3, with a gateway of 10.0.3.1. DNS set to the fios router (192.168.1.1).
Everything pretty much works EXCEPT, I cannot get out to the internet from either vlan. Traffic routes between vlans/and the default subnet on the fios without issue.
When I ping out, DNS resolves, but will not go past the fios router. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Mar 24, 2013I've installed a rv042G, disabled dhcp, opened port 3389 (wan to lan), one port formwarding rule to terminal server.
Now 48 hours later, when i try to login to the router, (https), I'm automatticaly redirect to the https site of the NAS (iomega ix-200).
The nas is connected to a cisco sg100-24, which is connected to lan 1 on the router.

Nov 15, 2011I recently installed an RV042 v1.1 vpn router (older hardware revision but using the latest available firmware 1.3.12.19-tm) and set up VPN access with the QuickVPN client. QuickVPN requires that the HTTPS setting be enabled under the Firewall options, so I did. I then scanned our static IP with grc.com's ShieldsUP! to check for open or non-stealthed ports and discovered that ports 80 and 443 show as wide open, while port 113 is closed but not stealthed. If I disable the HTTPS setting under Firewall, then ports 80 and 443 become stealthed. Is there any way to use QuickVPN and keep these ports stealthed?

Feb 28, 2012We have a RV016 load balancing between two broadband WAN connections. On protocols that are sensitive to a change in IP address such as ssh and https, if the client connection goes inactive for a short time (sometimes as short as 10 seconds), the RV016 often changes WAN connection as part of its "load balancing" feature. Most protocols do not even notice, but the more sensitive protocols do and often lock a session or timeout the session which is not a good thing.
We have been able to bind these sensitive protcolols to a particular WAN port but (in our minds) this is not an "ideal" situation. In fact I would consider this to be a broken "load balancing" solution and should be fixed.

On the fios connection I have an RV042 VPN router and on the Cable company connection I have an rvs4000 router, I would like to know if there is a way I can connect the 2 so I can share a printer I have on one of the 2 networks from the other network without using the VPN feature, like via an ethernet cable connected between the 2 and some kind of static route maybe?

Apr 29, 2011i have a router connected to my ISP which can get me 2 different IP's at all times (the router gets one IP).Now i want to get my computer to have a different ip as my router has (seen from outside my home network) - i want my computer that accesses the internet through my router to have a different IP as my router. I know that if my computer gets it's IP from my router's subnet, then it will (seen from outside) always have the same IP as my router. So the question is how do i get around this ? Do i just have to change my PC's DNS / gateway settings to match my router's ? The PC is connected to my router via wifi. Or would forwarding some ports on my router work ?

Cisco Switches :: Configure Multiple VLANs On SG 200-18?
Jun 22, 2011I am having problems accomplishing these tasks with my new SG 200-18.
I have a LinkSys WRT54G2 connected to port 1. I would like ports 2-8 to be in one VLAN with access to the Internet and to be able to share their printers, hard drives, etc. with other computers on ports 2-8. I would like each of ports 9-16 to be on a separate VLAN with access only to the Internet and no other ports on the switch. I would like to be able to manage the switch from any of the ports 2-8.
After I create the VLAN 1009 (see screenshot below), port 9 can browse the Internet and cannot see the other ports on the switch which is correct. However, ports 2-8 can no longer access the switch at 192.168.1.20 in order to manage the switch.
