View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got done running CAT 6 wire's into different rooms and placing jacks on the wall which all works correcting going into the patch panel. The problem I am having is that the Access Points on the ceiling I decided to make it a little easier and use regular network cable and cut one end off and place it into the patch panel the same way as all the jacks. The AP's are POE and they are just not getting on the network. Do I need to do something different for this cable? The way I punched all the wall jacks and all the cables to the patch panel is by using section B on the jack so because of me cutting a cable and leaving one end on, should I use A or is there something else I should do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Belkin prepmium CAT5e networking cable and plugged it into an internet wall jack and hooked it up to my ps3 and the connection won't work. Does it have to be hooked up to a router? Is a CAT5e cable the same as ethernet? or will I need to buy a different cable?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust about to run about 30 metres of Ethernet cable underground from one building to another. I know there's quite a few forums like this which suggest to go for cat5 mostly for the price, not sure when these were advised but cat6 doesn't seem to be too much more now...
So just wondering if it will be worth going for cat6 for a future reference if you will, ideally if products ever advance to support it. Just that I don't fancy digging up the cable in a year or so.
Of course I'd rather go for cat5e but wouldn't mind adding a bit to the budget if it's worth it?
Also does anyone know if it's any more difficult to fit the connecters to cat6e? Are they just the same as rj45?
I am trying to connect CAT5e riser cable to a GE #76536 network and phone wall plate. The problem I am having is the CAT5e cable has 4 twisted pairs of wires as follows: blue/white, green/white, orange/white and brown/white. The wall plate connection has 8 distinct colors; blue, white, green, orange, yellow, black, red and brown. (or at least that's what they look like to me)None of the white wires from the CAT5e cable have any striping. They are all solid white. I've found color charts for matching striped wires, but I am at a loss to figure out how to connect these white wires to the proper terminals
View 7 Replies View RelatedCurrently have wireless router to internet with pc's all connected in home network. Is it possible to put a cat5e/6 cable between two client PC's for a temporary boost in speed for for accessing shared files between these two machines.(i.e. 1Gbit rather than 56Mbit.)Both PC's would still want individual connections to the router and internet, but how do you make sure accessing shared files goe's through the faster ethernet cable rather than the router?

I have sony vaio pczim series with win 2000 xp home edition with a broadband (cpe adsl2+ type) connection. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am somewhat of a neophyte at networking and I have a question. I have a small business network using a secure wireless router connected to my cable modem. We have a DVR security system which we would like to monitor remotely. I would like to keep the DVR separate from my secure wireless router for security reasons. My thought is to connect the DVR through a cable or wired modem into my cable modem. Do you folks think this will cause an issue with the wireless router which uses DHCP to determine the IP address?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a Netgear wirless router to my cable modem. I have followed the instructions on the set up wizard but it fails to get a connection with the IP and DNS info I provide.I got the IP address info by connecting intially direct from the modem to the PC and then went to Run CMD and type ipconfig /all. I then started the set up wizard and followed the instructions, turning things on in specific order etc. After input the IP and DNS info it reports an error and tells me to check the address information is correct. My internet is a static IP connection (so it tells me and the IP information doesn't change).

1. From PC to Router
2. From another PC to router
3. From TV to router
4. From a Dlink Powerline Adapter to Router. It took me a while to figure this out but when I unplug all the eithernet cables and plug back in #1 and #2 (from above) the internet works. When I plug back in #3 and #4, the internet dies. Meaning, I am connected to the network but not the internet. I've reset the modem, changed SSID and restarted the PC many times but still can't figure out this issue.
