I have been trying to set up a home network to my detached garage office for personal use. I currently have a wireless network in my house but the distance from that router to my detach garage computer is too great to reach by normal, conventional means. The distance is approximately 100 feet through brick, glass, vinyl siding, drywall, etc. I am unable to relocate the router that controls the wireless network due to cabling issues plus I am not sure of the reliability of ethernet cable from the base router to garage. Currently I am running off two modems(one in garage and one in house) but the expense is ridiculous. Do you have any recommendations to get my garage desktop on the wireless network? Powerline adapters? Access Points/Repeater?

Here is my current setup:
Cable Modem>WNDR3700>CAT5E>WNDR3700
The last WNDR3700 is in my media closet at the other end of the house essentially serving as an AP. I get weak signal in the garage on a standard WiFi card. Thing is I am installing an IP camera soon, so I need ethernet connect ability. Hoping to not have to buy another WNDR3700 as they are pricey. The bottom line goal is to have a router or AP out in the garage to connect my IP camera. What would be the best way to accomplish this? Running a cable is out of the question price wise right now. I have no problem buying a directional antenna and pointing it towards the house, but this would require the router to have external antenna.

I have a motorola usb modem which is connected to my laptop and i have shared the connection and have an ethernet cable from laptop to wireless modem (TP-LINK) such that other wifi enabled devices can connect to it.Now we have electricity blackouts and when that happens my wireless router gets turned off. Internet on the laptop is working fine, now when the electricity comes back and the wireless router is on, the net does not work on the other wifi devices and only my laptop (as its directly connected to the modem).I have to reboot my laptop for the shared connection to work.

Until recently when we changed the router at work, I can access work files from my laptop and notebook from home. It seems the problem is probably from my home wireless router supplier by-aol as I can access work from my laptop anywhere else except my home. But then I have been able to do so until the work router was changed so i don't know what could be wrong?

I have a linksys wrt54gs wireless router (working fine since last 3 years) which connects to the internet fine if there is no password set. However if i set WEP password to protect the wireless connection, i am not able to connect to the wireless connection. Everytime i enter the passphrase, when trying to connect to the wireless network, it refuses to accept the password. I have tried this with 2 laptops (both running windows 7) and both have same issue.

I want to setup an home network with a wireless router and use multiple switches for wired connections through out my home. I currently have an Airport extreme hooked up to a cable modem and a leviton gateway hooked up to the Airport. The 2 computers connected to the Leviton are on a windows 7 homegroup and share fine, but won't share or discover any wireless device connected to Airport. My main goal is to have a wireless/wired network with all computers sharing information with each other. I want 2-3 wired switches/gateways with a min of 2 devices connected to each, connected to my wireless router whiich is connected to cable modem.

If your wireless indicator is flashing red when you discover the smurf, it can mean that someone has tried to logon with an incorrect password. this is not necessarily an attack, it could be someone you have allowed access too, who has forgotten the password? In this case entering the correct password will solve the problem. However putting your own MAC address into the filter will simply block your own machine.

I'm trying to ensure I have wireless coverage in my entire house and having extreme difficulty getting all machines to play nicelyWireless modem router #1 (downstairs in my house) is connected to the ADSL line and has the following config:IP Address = 192.168.1.1 DHCP on DHCP pool 192.168.1.3-192.168.1.100 Subnet = 255.255.255.0 Wifi channel = 1 Wireless router #2 (upstairs) is connected by ethernet cable to Wireless modem router #1 and has the following config:IP Address = 192.168.1.2 DHCP off Subnet = 255.255.255.0 Wifi channel = 11 Different SSID and encryption key to Wireless modem router #1 With this configuration, I can connect to the internet via both routers and all seems to be well. Except... having established a connection through either one, my machines will only make a pretend connection with the other one. By "pretend", I mean that the (Windows) machine says it has an excellent connection to the router but can only see machines on the LAN - it cannot get to the internet even though other machines are connected through the same router to the internet.
For example, if I'm sitting next to the downstairs router and establish a connection with it, all is well. Then I move upstairs and my machine switches to the upstairs router. Signal strength will be reported as "Excellent" and I'll be able to connect to the local NAS or printer but no external devices or sites.I have tried having the same SSID and wireless configuration on both but the result was the same.Today I read the suggestion to enable the DHCP server on the 2nd router but to set it to distribute a different non-overlapping IP range (i.e. router 1 can have a pool of 192.168.1.3-192.168.1.50, and router 2 can have a pool of 192.168.1.51-192.168.1.99)

I am trying to connect 2 wireless routers to expand my wireless signal. I want to connect the router 1 (in 2d floor) to a powerline av and then get the router 2 to the powerline (in the ground floor) so i can have wireless there too. I've tried some configurations i found online, but can't get to make the network functioning. The routers and powerline av are all dlink. I don't mind having 2 networks, but it would be better to have only one

I have a stack of SGE2010P switches with 3 vlans (1, 10 and 255) on it. Connected to it via a trunk port, I have a SF300-24P.On the trunk ports, I have vlan 1 untagged, vlans 10 and 255 tagged (on both sides, obviously). On the SGE2010 stack, I can set a ports primary vlan id to vlan 10, and workstations work correctly. On the SF300, if I set a port to type general, and the ports default vlan to 10 (on the port to vlan page), I cannot get any communication to work. This is my first time with a non-CLI switch, and am having real problems figuring out how to troubleshoot this problem.

Is it possible to daisy chain 3 switches and not have ip conflict? I am running a public access network for a library. For certain library software I need for all workstations to see each other. I have 25 workstations in total and two separate management consoles. I have all workstations on two switches but one of the management consoles is on the third switch because when joined with the others it has an ip conflict. I need this console for the digital sender that is connected as well as to act as a server for go print software.

I received an SG300-MP as an RMA replacement for a Linksys SRW2008MP and I can't seem to get the SNTP to work.Previously on other devices I have only had to set the SNTP server name or IP address and that was it. So some of the options of the SG300 are foreign to me.So I first set
Administration > Time Settings > System Time > Main Clock Source (SNTP Servers) [X]
Then I set several SNTP server IP addresses
Administration > Time Settings > SNTP Unicast
SNTP Client Unicast [X] Enable
> Add
Other / 64.147.116.229 (nist1-la.ustiming.org)
Other / 24.56.178.140 (wwv.nist.gov)
Other / 128.138.141.172 (utcnist2.colorado.edu)
Other / 129.6.15.29 (time-b.nist.gov)
Some servers I set "Poll Interval" and some I didn't because I wasn't sure what this does. The status for all servers indicate "Down" with 31.12.1899 0.0.0 for the "Last Response"/I found those IP addresses via [URL] Also the setting
Administration > Time Settings > System Time SNTP Multicast / Anycast
I have disabled, and I don't know what this does either...

Using a sg300-52 switch I created two VLANs that share a port for access to the internet. All original devices added to the VLANs are functioning correctly so I have to beleive the VLANs are set up correctly. I added a new desktop and an old laptop to the VLAN and neither worked. I was able to get the desktop to work by enabling VLAN tagging in the network adapter. The laptop is 5 years old and it does not have any such setting in network adapter. There are 2 other devices that share the same port with the laptop and they both function properly. My conclusion is that the laptop does not support VLAN tagging. Is there someway to configure the switch to account for this?

I am trying to put a wireless router behind another router. I have DHCP on the wireless router disabled and connected wireless router LAN port to wired router LAN port. The wired ports on the wireless router work fine. The wireless signal strength is good and shows a good connection. But wireless connectivity to the internet is poor. Ping to the main router shows most packets are lost. I have assigned the wireless router an address outside the DHCP range but in the same group. Main router is 192.168.15.1, wireless is 192.168.15.2, DHCP range is 192.168.15.100 to 192.168.15.130. I though the router might be bad as it is an older one so I got a new one - same issue.Update - found the problem. The wireless on the old router was still connected and running. Had some trouble getting wireless turned off for it. First speedtest.net run on new wireless showed low download speed (0.35 Mbps) but later showed same as wired (1.3Mbps). Not sure why the first test was so low as I have tested several times and now get the higher number. The old router (DI-524) even seems to display its web interface slowly although the wired ports still seem to work ok at least LAN to LAN.
