SRW2024 Grace Hotspot On VM Inside Network

Jul 3, 2013

I have been playing around with some hotspot/captive portal software on my home network. At the moment I have Grase Hotspot setup on an old computer in the garage with a Engenius outdoor wireless AP connected to it.I would like to have Grase Hotspot loaded onto my Proxmox server inside the house and only use the wireless AP located in the garage to allow connections. My network is as follows.

Internet--->PFSense Router---->Linksys SRW2024 Switch--->Proxmox-->Out to garage into another switch---> Engenius AP

I tried it on a VM, but Grase Hotspot tries to hand out IP's to the entire network, instead of just taking connections from the AP.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Renew CSC Base License After Grace Period

Oct 24, 2011

we have a customer with a ASA 5510 with a CSC module in it. The device tells us the Base license has expired. The new license has been renewed - after - the grace period. The Trendmicro site tells us the Base license is valid until 21 october 2013 but the CSC refuses to acknowledge this. The module is able to fetch updates form the Internet so it does not look like a connection problem to me (it also has a plus license which is also valid till far into 2013 and that one works). Is it possible that the current license key is "dead" and the CSC expects a new license key because the grace period was expired?

Connecting Local Network To Wifi Hotspot?

Oct 23, 2012

I have a local network that I want to connect to a WiFi site. The site is a free service offered to our community by a local ISP. The network uses a wireless router but cable links the two relatively old PCs. They are used for a single inventory-accounting program. One serves as the softwre host. The organization wants episodic Internet access so they can use a software update auto installation service. There are alternative ways to accomplish these updates, but this pathway is the only one acceptable to the organization. Why they reject a simple thumb drive using an out of system download is beyond me, but it seems to be a locked in idea. Oh, the current wireless router cannot accept DD-WRT, but one is available if it can be used if useable.

Home Network :: Best Option For Networking Two Computers With Only Hotspot?

Oct 30, 2012

I am working with a friend who has a home office that is not in a location where DSL or Cable is available. His only option for internet is using a hotspot - in this case, the Elevate Hot Spot from AT&T.

He needs to network two computers so that he can enable QuickBooks Pro in multi user mode - i.e., data file shared on Computer A, accessed by Computer B.

I thought at first that perhaps I could just setup a wireless connection for the office network - however, whenever that connection is on, then obviously neither computer can access the hotspot.

Trying to keep this at *minimal* cost.

My best idea is to old school network - i.e., connect the two computers via crossover ethernet. Am I correct that this will work? Seems to me that then both computers *should* still be able to access the hotspot via their wifi, yet also be networked for file sharing.

My questions are:

1.) Is this a correct assessment?

2.) Are there any road blocks I should be thinking about?

3.) Any reason not to do a direct connection (i.e., any reason I should entertain connecting to a switch instead?)

4.) Is there a certain order I should do things?

When i try to connect to it through Safari, Chrome, or Firefox using 192.168.1.254, I receive a message that a connection cannot be established. 192.168.1.254 is the ip mentioned in the manual. I used an ip scanner and it showed the actual ip is  192.168.0.1. But I cannot connect to webview through this ip either. We got this switch a year ago and did not change any settings, we just connected it and it worked fine. But now we want to change some settings on the switch but cannot connect.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N Stops Responding With SRW2024

Sep 21, 2010

I have the same problem with my two WAP4410N connected to my Cisco SRW2024 Gigabit switch. It appears that there would be a time where the PHY's between the WAP and the switch are hung. The lights on the Gigabit switch are constantly flashing.

It is until I disconnect and reconnect the network cable between the WAP and the Gigabit switch that the problem is momentarily solved.  Then it seems like another high traffic usage of the WAP will cause the connection to hang.  This solutions is totally unacceptable as I am not willing to open my wiring closet every time to fix this hang.  Also I've lost precious data between my client and server because of this hang!

I don't think the problem is with the Gigabit switch as I have other Gigabit devices connected to it and I never get them to hang like the WAP.

I saw on the release notes (although the firmware has not been posted) that there is a problem with the WAP Gigabit PHY.  From the release notes, it seems the firmware will have an option to take down the speed of the WAP Gigabit PHY from 1000BT to 100TX. This would be a shame if this is the final solution as one main reason for purchasing the WAP4410N is its Gigabit capability.

Being a networking PHY designer who had also worked on other Cisco products, I'm surprise that this problem had not been resolved in their qualification and interoperability lab.

Cisco Switches :: SG300-28P (SRW2024-K9) In L3 Mode - Intermittent Loss Of Speed

Jan 24, 2011

Every "once in a while" (about a week with my network load), the SG300 crawls to an almost standstill of all IPv4 activity (haven't got IPv6 enabled here yet, so I can't comment wether this applies to IPv6 as well). It seems pure L2 transmissions is not affected, but L3 definitely is (down to 20mbit as opposed to the 600+ rate I usually get).

Soft-rebooting the switch (via the webgui) useful, and the intervals of the crashes seem related to total bytes transmitted, not time. I have jumbo frames enabled, and disabled flow control on on the switch and all hosts.

Cisco WAN :: NAT Inside-to-inside (hairpinning) With NVI On 887VA?

I'm trying to configure hairpinning on my Cisco 887VA VDSL router, so all LAN users can connect to the server using SMTP port 25 which is also in the same LAN subnet, using external router address, which is assigned to dialer1 interface.Traffic comming in from outside works fine.

External IP: 1.1.1.1/29
PC address connecting to the server: 192.168.101.28
Server address: 192.168.101.200
IOS: 15.1.4M1

[code]....

I'm running tcpdump on the server on port 25 and... nothing happens. The traffic is not going through. One thing that I've notices in debug ip packet is this line:

s=1.1.1.1 (Vlan1), d=192.168.101.200 (Vlan1), len 52, rcvd local pkt

shouldn't source be internal vlan1 IP - 192.168.101.1?

ASA 5505 Content Filtering For Inside Network

Feb 26, 2012

I'm looking for a content filtering/antivirus/antispyware appliance for my company. Right now we have an ASA 5505 at the edge. We have several outside employees connecting via Cisco VPN clients to the ASA. I need an appliance that can do content filtering for my inside network, guest network, and VPN users. That's two local VLANs and a VPN pool which are all terminated at the ASA.

I've had good luck with Cymphonix in the past, but their boxes are a bit steep for the amount of throughput I need. We'll probably be moving from a 15/15 fiber connection to 80/10 cable soon since our provider can't seem to keep us online; even with an alleged "100%" SLA. They just don't have a network capable of anything close to 100% uptime, plain and simple.

I'd like to keep the ASA running as our firewall and VPN server, so the device needs to be able to do content filtering/av/as in a transparent mode.

Firewall Is Deep Inside Private Network PIX515

Jan 7, 2011

I am having a spot of bother with a Cisco PIX515, I have posted the current running config below, now I am no cisco expert by any means although I can do basic stuff with them, now I am having trouble with traffic sent from the outside to address: 10.75.32.25 it just doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

Now this firewall is deep inside a private network, with an upstream firewall that we don't manage. I have spoken to the people that look after that firewall and they say they they have traffic routing to 10.75.32.21 and 10.75.32.25 and thats it (although there is a website that runs from the server 172.16.102.5 which (if my understanding is correct) gets traffic via 10.75.32.23. Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 - VPN Termination On Inside Network

Apr 17, 2011

I am setting up a new ASA 5510 on our inside network so that we can terminate our VPN connections on this ASA. I can get the VPN to work fine however I noticed that once I turned on my VPN profiles now when I try to access the ASDM I'm getting the VPN logon page. So I decided that in order to resolve this I need a separate interface dedicated to management of my ASA.

I'm trying to come up with the best way to do this. I've got two ports on the ASA plugged into my core switch. One is on a separate VLAN from the rest of my network traffic. This is the port I want to use for management. The second will be used to route all of my VPN traffic.

So far I haven't been able to get this to work at all. My thought was that it had to do with routes, NAT and ACLs. I've been playing with them but can't get any combination to work.
