Securing The Wireless Network With A Filter

Dec 7, 2011

In my building there are 2 wireless access points connected directly via switch into the router. So the problem is i dont want to set a password for the wireless but i want to be able to filter all computers that are connected wireless to my internet because many of them are mass-downloading torrents movies etc. and it slows the internet massively. What do i need to do to make it like a filter , which would be like a ISA server or something.

HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer Stopped Working After Securing Network?

Nov 29, 2011

I have run three computers on my wireless network for a few years now, and have an HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless printer that has worked seamlessly on all computers. That is, until I secured my router. I had an open wireless connection that I changed to secure (WPA) a couple of weeks ago and have been unable to connect to my printer wirelessly to print. It will print if connected to USB. The first day I was able to enter in my WPA key just fine, but not since. It doesn't appear to be finding my connection. Oddly enough one of our computers (a laptop) is able to print to this printer so I am not sure. All computers are running Windows XP, I believe with SP3. I use a D-link wireless router. I have tried using the HP solutions to no avail and have checked in the documentation that came with the printer. As an aside, I now appear to also have another wireless connection which is a "computer-to-computer" connection, I believe an ad-hoc connection?

Cisco :: AP1200 Securing Open Wireless Environment

Need securing a wireless environment in a hotel?  The SSID has to be broadcast of course but how can we protect guests from man in the middle attacks, etc.?  Currently the environment is all AP1200s with no hardware upgrades in the near future.  There is also a 2811 router in place but nothing else.  We would love to be able to force users to authenticate with a password in order to get out to the Internet as well.

D-Link DIR-825 :: How To Add More Mac Addresses To Network Filter

I also have plenty of my own wireless devices.I like using the mac address filter so not using it is not an option. Hopefully there is a way to add more, instead of being limited to a predetermined amount.

Cisco WAN :: Securing SRDF Between Two 7204 Routers

Jan 3, 2011

We have a leased line from one office to a DR site which we use to back up our data. We are using Cisco 7204 and and OC3 circuit. The data is sent in blocks (SRDF) and we are sending changes only. However, we are getting requests from compliance to further secure this connection since it is a leased line. I guess I need to know how secure SRDF traffic is and then if required, how to secure it.

Can we create a simple VPN between the two routers without having to use a VPN concentrator or Firewall? If so, what IOS would be required? How much impact will the VPN have on current bandwidth?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Invalid MAC Address In Network Filter

Jul 4, 2012

I installed the 2.06NA on my DIR-655 router and now I'm having problems adding mac addresses to the network filter. The message is "Invalid MAC address". Of course, it doesn't tell me which entry is invalid and I have a number of them. After further checking.. I noticed that one of the MAC addresses is indeed invalid and when I remove it I still get the error message?

D-Link DIR-825 :: Network Filter - Invalid Mac Address

Dec 29, 2009

I had no problem running both 2.4 and 5.0 Bandwidth. With WiFi password and without. It does it's job. The 2.4Ghz Range Plus works. I have set up the router on the 2nd floor at the highest it can go. And everyone get's full bars all over the house. I even get 4-5 bars outside in my car on my phone.

The only issue I have with this thing is a damn new netbook I got for Christmas with a Mac Address starting with 0C-EE-E6-XX-XX-XX. The Router finds the Mac Address invalid. In which I can come to understand cause seeing a Mac Address starting like that is completely new to me. Every Mac Address I have, started with 00 except the netbook. So now, I spent days trying to find firmware updates, patches, anything! I even attempted to spoof the Mac Address on the netbook but Microsoft has a bug on Windows 7. (I have the Starter Edition that came with the netbook)

Windows 7 Mac Spoofing works with WIRED Connection. But it does not work with WIRELESS Connection. I used 3rd Party Tools: SMAC and etc... I attempted Registry Edits, I changed even the value key to the "Orginal Mac Address" and it just wont change [New Strings/Network Address Edits included]. I have been banging my head about this for a week now. The Internets has many answers but they did not work. So Spoofing the Mac Address is out of the question. Until Microsoft fixes this bug.

Anyway: Did D-Link release any sort of beta update/driver/firmware or anything to resolve this at all? Is there a modded firmware to force the Router to take this stupid paradox of a Mac Address?

Currently: I have the Router's WiFi Password-ed with Default Factory Settings
{Hardware Version: B1
Firmware Version: 2.02NA}.

Cisco Security :: 1023 / Securing And Restricting Access To A FTP?

Nov 6, 2012

I have an ASA firewall and I have never configured an FTP server for a large scale network (well large in my opinion). I want to ensure we have the highest level of security available for the FTP and to limit only the specific users designated by an ACL. Would SFTP be the best available option for security measures? Should I only use Passive FTP and what range of ports above 1023 should I open for only 1 or 2 FTP clients at a time? Also if I use Passive mode do I need to use protocol inspection for FTP?Also, Currently I'm unsure of what files need to be accessed on our network but should the SFTP Server always only be installed within the DMZ?

D-Link DIR-655 :: MAC Filtering / Network Filter And Guest Zone

Jul 22, 2012

207.NA Firmware, B1 Hardware in use on a DIR-655, Time Warner Cable setup.  Nothing to do with Revision, cordless phones,I saw this asked once before specifically here, but it was never answered. After several attacks via our cable network and neighbors, we've HAD to turn on MAC filtering.  There are TONS of devices attached normally so two situations popped up:

#1:  What happens when you max out the authorized MAC address listings?  Does the page get longer when you save/reboot it?  Do I have to do it manually from there forward and where can I get down to the core programming level to edit the code and put the MAC's that are around and on 100% of the time to open up the plug-in list on the GUI?

#2:  Guest Zone - we NEED a way to have random guests get on our Network with a different password we can randomly change to prevent the outside abuse, etc. but am I understanding what little else has been posted that the MAC filtering also covers the Guest Zone and therefore I have to stick them in there before they could simply log on with the current password?  Is there any way to change/stop that without eliminating MAC filtration as a whole?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASA 5510 Securing Inbound Traffic On VPN Using ACL

Nov 1, 2012

I have a VPN on my ASA 5510 between (A)192.168.255.0/24 and (B)172.20.2.0./24. The purpose of the tunnel is to send kerberos tickets from our domian controller on the A side, across to a server at B, and receive a respose. I want to lock down inbound traffic to the A network, but not sure of best method.

I initially tried using an ACL filtering on ports, but soon realised the incoming traffic uses a wide range of ports so this is not really possible.Seeing as the A side will always be initiating the conversation, I was wondering if I could use the 'established' option on the inbound ACL for the ASA at A side, so that it would block any flows that are not initiated by the A side.

Cisco Routers :: RV042G - ProtectLink Enabled To Filter Out Various Categories From Network Traffic

Jun 29, 2012

I have upgraded to the new RV042G to take advantage of the gigabit Ethernet speeds and to prepare for when our ISP upgrades our bandwidth. I currently use the RV042 with Protect Link enabled to filter out various categories from our network traffic. I noticed that this feature is not included with the RV042G.

Is this something Cisco will decide to add back in later? In the meantime, how to block content on the network? The basic URL and keyword filter will not meet our needs, since it is much easier to let a service such as Trend Micro manage what is blocked in the categories they offer.

Did Mac Filter Wireless Adapters Address

Sep 17, 2011

Im using my upstairs neighbors wifi with permission. It has no protection whatsoever but recently i havent been able to use it anymore, and they both just went on vacation yesterday. Their dad was there for a day or two before they all left, my assumption is he thought i didnt have permission and did something to prevent me from connecting without mentioning it before they left. Its full bars (its directly above me) but the router almost instantly doesn't respond when i try to connect. Did he mac filter my wireless adapters adress? I tried changing my mac address on my wireless adapter (aka, desktop, as it doesn't have a nic) but Tmac cant change it successfully. Tmac is able to change my laptops mac though, but even after doing so i still cant connect to the network.

Other issue - right now im using a crappy 2 bar connection called ddrtvap on my laptop. The laptop sitting right where my wireless adapter for the desktop would be and it connects fine, but my desktop cant connect to this network (it connects to the network, but no internet) while the laptop does just fine. Windows repair is super usefull as it tells me something is wrong with my adapters settings but gives no clue as to what.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 - IP Or MAC Filter On 1522 AP?

May 21, 2013

I have a wireless sytem with a WLC 4400 and several 1522 Access Points. They don't actually function as Access Points because I'm using radio communication only for backhaul. There are no clients connected to the Access Points. All traffic on the network comes from the devices connected on the LANs that are bridged through the APs ethernet port.

I would like to create filters to allow only certain devices to be able to transmit over the radio link. I've used this in the past on 1310 units and it was very easy to do via GUI. This filter could be either by IP or MAC Addresses. IP would be better for me.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Wifi Mac Filter

Dec 7, 2011

It would be nice if there was a "Note" field next to each MAC field whereby you could specify what device the MAC belongs to. I have quite a few listed but recently I've gotten rid of the devices. I have to go through all my current devices, not them in another program, and then remove the ones that are no longer needed.

The Wireless Client List doesn't capture all the names so that's not what I'm looking for.

Also, it would be great if the "Note" would tie into the Parental Controls so that I know exactly what device I'm choosing. It currently lets you select from the Wireless Client List, but the list doesn't have all the Client Names populated.

So, one, is this feature available (or something similar) and two, if not, please take this into consideration as a useful feature for a new version down the road.

2.)  Adding a 10th wireless device to the filter table and the MAC 10: becomes duplicated in MAC 09: while the existing MAC 09: disappears.  Finally got it to accept my new device but now I have 2 devices repeated in the MAC Filter Table.  Not a clean setup.
