We have a network drive (drive with Rj45 port) and it is shared by many computers. Frequently we are facing a problem while opening a file and we get the error message "The file is opened by another user" and can open only as ready only.
How can I find who has opened the file in the network drive?
I uploaded my web page on Internet via File Zilla. My web page consisted of 10~ HTML files . Some of HTML pages cannot be opened by any browser ( The requested URL /scenos.html was not found on this server ), however, when i open my web locally ( from my hard drive) everything works perfectly

Whenever i step away from my desk and come back only to find Icons of files mapped to other network drives other than my local drive have disappeared from desktop. I have to restart my computer to get these back. It only happens when i have walked away from my PC and I have verified that no one has sat at my desk to use my computer while I'm away. The other PC are also networked to the same servers as mine and theirs are not affected at all.

I am trying to map a network drive from Windows 7 to the hard drive in Windows Home Server. The issue is, I'm unable to set permissions.
I setup the share by right clicking the drive and click "Sharing", then advanced sharing. Click permissions, and add my username (HOMESERVERKeith), and give the account full permissions. Hit apply a couple of thousand times. I go to my desktop, right click computer and click "Map Network Drive..." and fill in all the details. Folder is set to HOMESERVERMovies HDD. Because the user "everybody" doesn't have permission, I click "connect using different credentials." For the username I type in "HOMESERVERKeith", and of course type the password. I don't get an error, the login box just shows itself again. There is no permission error, no incorrect password, it just prompts for another login.
I have a Gaming Computer, with a 2x2TB RAID-1 setup, which I use to store .iso files ripped off my game's / movie's disks..Most of the time I'm on my laptop, I have set up a Network Drive to this RAID-1 setup, but when I try to transfer files from the Gaming Computer to my laptop via a network connection, either by wireless G, Ethernet 100mbps, or Ethernet 1gbps, my files get corrupted, this usually happens to larger files e.g over 1GB..But when I transfer the same files to my external hard-drive the files work properly....My computers is networked by a TP-Link 340G....

(i.e. all ip addresses are identical except for the last block of numbers)All machines are running WinXP.We have one computer set up as a file server (computer with shared folders) that is plugged into a wall socket. We have 3 other machines that can see and access the shared folder on the server computer once they are plugged into a wall socket. The odd thing is that these 3 machines have different settings as far as I can tell. They are all on different workgroups but they have no problem finding the shared folder.However, when I go to plug my laptop into a wall socket, I am not able to map a network drive. The error msg says it cannot find the drive. I have my laptop set-up on the same workgroup as the server computer and the server computer can see my laptop. But when I double click on my laptop in the server computer workgroup I get a msg saying permission is denied.
My laptop can connect to the internet, but cannot find the shared drive. I have tried turning off my laptop firewall, the server firewall, both firewalls etc with no success. In my Local Area Connections I have the following all enabled "Client for Microsoft Networks", "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks", "QoS Packet Scheduler", "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
i have been wanting to do this LAN sharing thingy for a while now.so here's the deal.i wanna do is setup our PC's so we could create a network of our own and share files just like in LAN but not over the internet.its kinda like we would on a Homegroup in win7.also have a few more PC's on different ISP's.can they be added to the network too?

Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.
Now that I have windows 8 on my PC It's all buggered up.
I didn't change ANY settings on HER laptop, but when I try and access it (I used it to back up important files while fresh installing w8) it's asking me for a username and password
I want to know which protocols are used to share files via lan.Both the machines are running windows.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using FrontPage 2003 successfully and recently as of 2 days ago...I wanted to edit the website and the files are ALL missing. UGH!!!! Its very frustrating that I cannot edit the website now and we are missing valuable information. I did see the files when I created a new Network Place with the prefix but I cannot edit and save to our website. Now I did ask MyHosting administrator but they are seriously taking longer to get back to me then needed. I can open Front Page, but of course, cannot publish anything to the website. More so, even just opening the files in server.com is the actual issue because I cannot change the website page. That's the files I need to change in Front Page. I did go to my account settings within myhosting server to the File Manager and YES! I could see all the files....but again I cannot save anything to the website or publish..I DID NOT DOWNLOAD anything over the past few days and have not gone to unauthorized websites that would have provided a virus. Everything else works fine.

Laptop 2 works on data, puts it onto a flash drive then goes to laptop 1 and opens the spreadsheet and enters data from flash drive.My thought is wouldn't it be great if they could use some type of VPN? When I try to, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot access Laptop A".It then gives me the option to diagnose the problem (I'm using Vista on both laptops, by the way). When I click that, it gives me the error of "Cannot communicate with Laptop A. We pinged the remote host but did not receive a response".Laptop A is connected to the network according to it, it can access the internet fine and can access other laptops on the network fine. I have disabled the firewall, shared the folders appropriately, made sure they were both on the same workgroup (they are both on the default Vista WORKGROUP), and still nothing.

The problem we are experiencing is when a folder is created by user A, it cannot be moved by user B (and vice versa), as it says the folder is in use.The exact error is: Error Moving File or Folder.Cannot move <filename>: Access is denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.I have explicitly set full control for both users on the folder. The drive has 70GB of 500GB remaining. I have also used File Server Management to verify the files were not in use when they were being moved.The server is Windows 2003, SP2. Domain environment, with all relevant users having permissions on the folder, and the everyone account removed. Any other operation inside the shared folder works fine.

When at #2 and trying to save a file to #1, the save time may be about a minute. When doing the same thing from a computer #3 with windows xp, the save time is a few seconds. Tried safe mode with networking. Same thing. Tried disabling remote differential compression. No change. The three computers are in the same workgroup.

View 11 Replies View RelatedOur previous wireless router (Netgear Rangemax wpn802) died yesterday so I went out and bought a Western Digital My Net N900. The issue is that now anyone using the wireless signal can't connect to a shared network folder that they were previously able to connect to using the old router.
I'm not able to log into the old router to see any of its settings. I do have access to the server that has the shared folder - I just don't have any idea what needs to be set in order for the N900 to allow me through to the shared folder - whether it's on the router side or the server side.

I just upgraded from my factory default and found network sharing of my USB HDD was no longer working.It came down to two bugs in the latest firmware:Even though there is now the option to share without a password that option does not work and you still need a password.And that password is the factory default of "admin" even though I have set my own password.
I have a user that is trying to save an excel speadsheet that is located in a shared folder on a server, the user can open the file and edit ok but when they try to save the file the progress bar pops up but just hangs then a message pops up to saying "file not saved". They are using Windows 7.The user is new and I have just set up their account so thought it might be permission issues but I have logged the user in on two other different machines (1 win7 and 1 WinXP) and they have no problem at all.

I support an OU in a large university domain. Myself and one other user are the only people experiencing this issue in an OU comprised of over 20 machines.
I tried searching google and Cisco Home Community for this answer, but no luck. Maybe I didn't phrase my search correctly. I have an external drive connected to a mac mini which is shared on the network. When transferring folders to or from that external drive, our internet connection stops working until the transfer finishes, then comes back up. I've tested this in a variety of ways. Any transfer of data from shared folders in any combination of devices causes internet to stop working both on wired and wireless devices until the transfer is done, then they all work again. Router firmware: 1.0.03.

Everything is set up in the router software. The tuner detects the USB drive as a UPnP device, shows the directories I've set up for media share. If I select an AAC or FLAC file to play, the tuner loads it and plays. If I select an MP3 file, it loads, shows it as 100% buffered -- and hangs. Every time. The other devices on the router's network (wired desktop, wireless laptop, wireless tablet) can load and play the MP3s along with the other file types from the same USB-connected drive. That's why I figure the router isn't causing the problem.
I moved to Comcast internet yesterday (from 3Mbps DSL), and the E4200 seems to be working well (although somewhere along the way it decided to delete all the files on the NAS drive...an issue for another day). On my laptops and wired PCs I'm now seeing 15-20Mbps down, and 4Mbps up. However, when I connect with my iPhone 3GS, I only see about 7.5Mbps down, and 4Mbps up using online speedtests. I have tried messing with the router settings and resetting all the network settings on the iPhone but nothing changes. I know my iPhone can handle more, because I get 15Mbps down when I visit family (they have a Netgear N300). I can only conclude that my E4200 is the cause.

I have made a static Ip and port forwarded 4 ports that xbox uses. 88 udp..3074 both...53 both...80 tcp... Now when i test my connection on the xbox dashboard a message will come up saying make sure my UpNp is enabled, which it is and it tells me to make sure port 3074 is enabled which it is. I have restarted both my modem and router multiple times to try and fix this.
I have a linksys cisco e4200 and I recently updated its firmware which i thought would possibly fix the problem.I have talked to linksys but no luck.I have talked to my internet Cox Communication but they tell me its the router and i believe it is because when i directly connect my xbox to the modem i never get the moderate Nat. I have also talked to Norton about my virus protection because I thought maybe it was blocking some ports, but they disabled it and I still get the message.
I am going back to college and I will need a router. Both my roommate and I were on the same router went over our bandwidth usage a number of times last year. I've done a bit of research and have come up with a few options: Asus rt-n56u, netgear wndr 4500, and the apple airport extreme. Both my desktop and laptop pc so I'm not sure if that effects the outcome. I am going to need a usb port for an ext hdd, which all of them have. All of the routers have a 5hz signal for better streaming. Would I be able to use the apple airport? It seems the have the best reviews. But I question the compatibility and some of the reviews due to possible fanboyism. Also, If I connect my desktop to the router via a crossover cable and have an ext hdd hooked into the router can I transfer files to the ext hdd and stream that data over a 5 hz signal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf Anonymous Disk Access is selected, read-only files cannot be deleted; nor can the file attributes be changed. This is true even if one attempts to connect as an administrator. Unchecking Anonymous Disk Access and logging on as an administrator fixed this problem for me, but I'd think there are 2 issues.
1. Anonymous Disk Access should allow deletion of ANY files. I would expect this to be a "wide open" setting.
2. If Anonymous Disk Access is selected, a valid login should take precedence.
I recently copied files to my hard drive that was connected directly to my computer (via USB).When I connected the disk back to E3000 the files were missing. I connected it back to PC directly and verified the files are there.My PC runs Windows 7 Enterprise.Why can't I see files copied via local connection when I connect the disk to E3000.I carefully compared the permissions with files that I can see just fine and there is no difference - same permissions, same owner.I also get all kinds of permission errors when I try to delete a files from the network drive.

My problem is that I use this drive to back up all my data from my laptop, including movies, pictures and music. I only want to share the movies... I recently set up a an external hard drive as a UPnP media server through my router. My media devices and my computer can see the drive fine. My question is, what is the best way to add files to the drive? It seems like a hassle to plug it into a computer directly every time I want to add more files, and FTP is kind of clunky. Is there any sort of software I can put on the drive or any better way to drop files onto it?I'm using a Seagate 2TB USB Drive formatted as FAT32 connected to a lemonade-equipped Westell 7501 router. I understand that it may be that I'm trying to get too high tech with my $7 router, but it seems that there should be a better solution.
