View 14 RepliesI need to be able to offer Remote Assistance to my mother who is now a good distance away. She has my old XP computer running Windows XP Professional. I'm running Vista 64-bit home premium. We are both using BEFSR41 routers as she wanted to buy what I had been using when I lived with her.
I'm able to get a sesion working between a virtual PC computer running XP Pro on my LAN, but I can't get it to work over the WAN connection (internet). All I can find researching what ports to open is port 3389, which I tried 3 different ways to try to open. Ant correct set up and connection procedure to allow me to receive invites for remote assistance via the internet? I can't send invites either, I tried it just for the heck of it. I'm not sure if this is a NAT problem or a problem with the ports not being opened. Changing from DHCP to static had no effect, and there is only one computer that uses DHCP as I set up the old ones to use static when learning about networking and never changed them back.
Here are some censored screenshots of how my router is configured. I apologize for censoring them, but I don't want to reveal what other ports are open on my router or the configuration of my LAN more than necessary. I don't have any other Windows computers available on my LAN for testing that support Remote Assistance, but I do have an old Win98SE computer. Mom has my aging XP computer for e-mail, web browsing, Office 2003 and that's about it.

On Windows 7 I keep receiving the error message of ACL or Firewall is blocking. I have added rules and then even tried disabling the firewalls completely on both computers and still no success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I upgraded my 10/100mbps LAN to 100/1000mbps LAN with Wireless using the Linksys WTR320N. The initial testing went without problems. The small LAN I setup with 2 laptops, router and modem worked fine and I plugged in the other systems.
During the testing the speed of the internet was like before, instant loading of most of the pages (i.e. Facebook, Youtube) and reached the max speed capable, which is 23MBps together with a low ping of arround 30.
Now, with the full network the internetspeed doesn't top 20MBps anymore, it sticks back to 15-17, which is a loss of 6MBps on my connection. After checking out various topics on this and other forums I upgraded the firmware from 1.0.0.3 to 1.0.0.4. Which gave a small improvement but I still don't reach my max speed, nor a decent ping and pageload times.
I got a Cable-internet provider which doesn't require password/username to logon to, so it's a permanent connection. MTU is at 1500, and because I don't know what it is (I saw the phrase and changing it to 1300/1350 a few times while searching for a solution).
How I can speed up the loadtimes and internetspeed? The problems are both on wired as wireless connection. Signal strength of the wireless is maximum and the wired connections never gave problems before.
I just purchased a new E1200 router with firmware version 2.0.01 and downloaded the latest version 2.0.03 and tried to install it through the router. When I choose the downloaded file and try to start upgrade I immediately get an error "The Image File is Incorrect". View 8 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the firmware from the Linksys site. I'm using IE v9 on a Win7 Pro x32. I'm using the E4200 as an access point so DHCP is disabled, no cable in the WAN port.
I uploaded the firmware but it seems to be stuck for 30 minutes at 98%. I read some threads saying it takes a while, but I'm not sure if it is locked up. The screen says not to interrupt the process so I don't want to reboot/reset and brick the router.
I tried to upgrade my router firmware to the latest 2.1.39.145204 (downloaded from cisco website) but seems like the upgrade didn't go well. I am unable to open the admin webpage. I can get to the login page on 192.168.1.1, after i enter the admin password the next page doesn't load. It keeps showing 'Waiting' at the center of the page forever.. I have tried to do the 30/30/30 reset to no avail, i tried to do tftp downgrade to older firmware version but the tftp boot doesn't even start. Is there any other way i can either fix the current firmware upgrade or downgrade it to the previous version?

Pinging facebook.com would give me an IP that belongs to wikipedia. The answer was SUPPOSED to be upgrading to v3.0.03.I upgraded and now my router WILL NOT connect to my DSL modem. Oh, it says it's connected and shows the correct IP address for my DSL modem but the gateway is showing 0.0.0.0. First the installation failed, double checked to make sure I downloaded the correct file (FW_WRT54G_8.1.09.02_US_20071227.bin), did a reset and power cycle. Checked the information again and everything on the router setup completely disappeared.
