I have a WRT54G Router. Right now I have my modem connected to my router with an ethernet cord and my router connected to my computer with an ethernet cord and it is working fine. When I disconnect my laptop from router and connect modem to router spot 1 with the ethernet cord, it won't work.

I have a HP DV4 laptop and the internet quit working.Cable comes into my house, to a modem, to a wrt-54g router, then to a hub, then to my computer.I can hook another computer up to the cat-5 from the hub to the computer and it works fine, but when I hook the computer in question to that same cat-5 cable, I get the little green light when the ethernet cable is connected & the message ie cannot display the webpage. So I try a different browser, chrome, unable to connect to the proxy server.it doesn't matter if I'm wired or wireless, I get the same error.Where do I go from here?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI cant get this to work and maybe it's not possible to even do it. I have 2 laptops one old running XP and one new running 7. I have DSL Sprint modem that works fine when directly wired to either laptop. A friend gave me an old Netgear Wrt54g wireless router he had laying around so I could connect both laptops to the internet. I cannot do this wired or wireless. When I try wired the internet doesn't work. When I try to do it via wireless the new Windows 7 laptop says it isn't compatible. Any way to get this to work either way on both? Or do I need to pick up a new router. Also, I would prefer a wired connection so any recommendations for a wired router that will work with this setup.

My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network.This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!
I am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G. Â First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?

I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity. It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135. I don't know why this is so.I don't have the setup cd disk but I read the users' guide and it seems that I really don;t need the cd. But no matter what I do , I can't get to 192.168.1.1 .

I am not able to connect to the internet through Linksys Wireless Router. Â I have tried pinging the default gateway of the ISP provided router IP from the router utility, "Diagnostic", but I am not able to ping it.
I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless network from my router. Currently, I can connect to the wireless network, however I cannot access the internet, but I am able to access the internet with an Ethernet cable in the same router. This is a fairly recent development as we have used this router for wireless internet access (our modem has a wireless network built into it, but it is unreliable) for upwards of 8 months now without problem. One day it simple restored itself to the default name and we were no longer able to access the internet through the wireless portion.

i just updated my firmware on my wrt54g ver 2 router, went through all the steps it updated successfully after that i hit the reset button and unplugged the router as tehe online instructions said to. Now i can't connect to the interent at all with either of my two wired computers or through the wireless. All the lights on the front of the router are on like the power, internet, and wireless connectivity. Also the the two WAN ports my computers are connected to in the router the lights are on and it's recognising them. But I can't connect to the internet or even see the router on my network settings. Somone suggested to reconfigure the router but when i go to set up new connection my computer doesn't detect the router and also i cant connect to the router using the ip address 192.168.1.1/ since there is no internet connection. Is there a way to get to the router options or a way to revert it to its old firmware.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have WRT54G router.  The VIZIO VBR231 unit finds the network OK and indicates it is connected, but nothing will stream, and  when I run a Network Test it gives me this 3 line error:
Connection to 0.0.0.0... successfully established
Resolving... could not be established
Please check your connection and try again.

The VIZIO support folks were not beneficial at all, and said something about Port 80 or Port 43 not being open or available. Â When I talked to linksys support, they said I needed to add the VIZIO player's IP (which appears to be 0.0.0.0 in the system settings). Â I poked around a bit, including the Port Forwarding tab on the router setup, but could not see a way to assign 0.0.0.0 to one of these ports, and I am hesitant to experiment.

I'll probably just return the unit to Costco, but I'm trying this forum as a last ditch effort. Â BTW I have a VIZIO internet TV that I love, and that had absolutely no problem at all connecting to the wireless.
I have a Linksys wireless router model WRT54G (not sure the exact model, it's not in front of me right now). It has worked flawlessly for the past several years, but for some reason has recently stopped working. I confirmed it's not a problem with the DSL Modem, as I can hard wire connect to my laptop and the internet works fine. It's clear something is wrong with the wireless router. I've tried unplugging, hitting the reset button on the back, and nothing has worked. My computer is able to recognize/locate the router and connect, it's just that I can't connect to the internet. One thing I've noticed under the wireless connection is that the computer is able to "send" packets, but not "receive." My experience is that this is always the case when I experience connection problems, but I have no idea what that means. I was going to call the Help Line, but I see it costs $30 which is likely more than my router is worth and probably 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a new one so I am trying to troubleshoot myself.

I'm trying to connect my HP C6200 printer to a Linksys WRT54g v2.2 router I've set up to be in client mode with a Netgear N300 WNR2000 v2 router used as the main broadcasting router. I can't seem to get the printer to be seen when the laptop is connected wirelessly to the Netgear.
I have no problems accessing the internet with my laptop plugged into the client router so I know that is communicating with the Netgear. I have no problems pinging the printer from the client router and toggling settings, getting info, etc. I have no problems pinging the Netgear either.
When I go to connect wirelessly to the Netgear I get a message that the printer has been disconnected and I can no longer print test pages or ping the printer.
Is it possible to get this working or have I overlooked one or more settings?
I could not log into any of the 4 FTP sites that I normally update without immediately getting disconnected. The message I am getting from the servers is "Port command failed, error loading directory - disconnected". To save some time and posts, here are the facts....1.) It is definately not my DSL modem. When I connect directly with the modem, without a router, I can connect to FTP fine2.) I have already done a /flushdns in IPconfig.3.) I have already done the typical power off/power on/reboot procedure numerous times.4.) I have already tried PASV mode, and tried turning PASV mode off as well.5.) My login information is correct, and I have problems on multiple sites.6.) This problem has been reported before by other users of WRT54G, but the other forums I see have no solution to the problem.7.) I have already tried using other PC's and different FTP clients on my home network. No matter which PC or laptop I use behind the router firewall, I can't maintain FTP connection. 8.) I have never had to open ports to be able to connect to FTP, since I am the one doing the request. I did also try opening ports 20 and 21. 9.) XP firewall is disabled. 10.) I have tried both ethernet ports on my PC. But then again, that is irrelevant because none of my other PC's which connect wirelessly, can connect either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI my parents have a WRT54G linksys router, they have a DSL modem. Everything was working fine with the wireless network until one random day POOF! the wireless no longer would connect on laptops. However, the internet is working just fine with the computer that is hardwired up throught the router. Since this is working it lets me know that the router is working fine and routing the connection through hardwire. Hard wired works on laptops but all laptops are unable to join the network and most of the time it will not show up in the list of available networks.Even my iphone wont connect saying unable to join network. We bought a brand new linksys router and same problem. I then took his old router to my house and hooked it up...and WOW it works as it should all devices can connect...even my iphone.

My ipod detects the wifi network but when i select it , it asks for password. now i dont know which password is this bcoz everytime i poer on my computer or laptop i never type a password b4 accessing internet.. it is auto connected. i know the admin password for my router but that is denied by ipod to connect to internet. View 1 Replies View RelatedChecked cable router (brighthouse), working. Router (all lights on but network traffic flashing indicates one way traffic). So I go to my wife's computer. It too has no connection. I open my laptop to connect to the wireless, IT WORKS! Pull power on Cable Modem and Router, wait 60 secs, power up Cable Modem and then power up Router (I know it wasn't nec to do modem but I wanted a clean start). Wireless is still working, no LAN. I can't even connect 192.168.1.1. Linksys software says it can't detect the modem. Reset time, hit the magic button in the back and sure enough everything stops working (which I figured). Still can't connect to it, and now I've lost wireless. I connect computer directly to Cable Modem and type this message. Seems to me that Router has failed.

I open the router using "admin", reset Wireless Security and reset my password. Wireless laptops, wireless camera now works fine but now iPhone will not connect? I have double checked the password, it is the same as the router. Is there something else in the router that needs changing for the iPhone connection?

PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.
Im running a linksys wireless router, WRT54G V6 with firmware 1.02.8. It worked before I moved after I moved I can't connect via wireless. hard line works. i've tried resting to factor, i've tried not using ses, not using custom ssid. I've rest it like 5 times retarted the computers. I've hit the little cisco systems button on the front, this makes it work for a few minutes. When I hit the button it will go out then come back on white, and blink around 1-2 blinks per second, it will do this for maybe 1-2min. then stops and changes back to orange. and i get nothing from it. the WLAN light is on like it's working but I cannot detect it with my desktop or laptop, can i can detect 3 other routers around me. I've tried pretty much everything i know to do, tried flashing it, updating, about the only option i have left is throwing it out the window.
