Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Can't Connect To Internet - Send Packets But Not Received
Jun 6, 2012
I have a Linksys wireless router model WRT54G (not sure the exact model, it's not in front of me right now). It has worked flawlessly for the past several years, but for some reason has recently stopped working. I confirmed it's not a problem with the DSL Modem, as I can hard wire connect to my laptop and the internet works fine. It's clear something is wrong with the wireless router. I've tried unplugging, hitting the reset button on the back, and nothing has worked. My computer is able to recognize/locate the router and connect, it's just that I can't connect to the internet. One thing I've noticed under the wireless connection is that the computer is able to "send" packets, but not "receive." My experience is that this is always the case when I experience connection problems, but I have no idea what that means. I was going to call the Help Line, but I see it costs $30 which is likely more than my router is worth and probably 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a new one so I am trying to troubleshoot myself.
i can no longer connect to the internet and i have tried everything i could think of. my "wireless network connection status says 0 packets sent and 0 recieved, but im connected to my router with excellent signal. when i got this laptop it had alot of malware, i removed 283entries with malwarebytes in safemode. after i did that i couldnt connect to the internet.
Router: WRT54G Network: 802.11g (and I'm using WEP) Wifi Adapter: Intel R Centrino R Ultimate-n 6300 AGN No. of devices connected to wireless network: 5
My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network. This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!
I am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G. Â First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?
My router used to work. I updated the firmware to 4.21. xx and after that I can't connect to internet. When I connect directly to modem, I can go to the internet . I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity. It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135. I don't know why this is so.I don't have the setup cd disk but I read the users' guide and it seems that I really don;t need the cd. But no matter what I do , I can't get to 192.168.1.1 .
I have a wrt54g v5 router. I cannot connect to the internet through my router. I called the cable company and they told me that the router probably reset from a power outtage and reconnect. i power cycled, i tried to log onto the router via 192.168.1.1 but the connections were spanish to me.
I have a WRT54G router and a Dell computer. I have been connecting wirelessly to this router with this computer for about 3 years. Now, the computer sees the router but it won't connect to the internet. I have other computers that connect fine, so I thought it was the wireless adapter in my computer. However, I went to someone else's house and connected perfectly.
When i connect my computer directly to my modem i could connect to the internet but when i connect the modem to the internet port on the WRT54G and then connect my computer to one of the ports on it i can't connect to the internet at all.
Due to some reason I had to reset my linksys router WRT54G and now I am not able to connect to internet using my router. I tried coupld of settings followings some suggestion over internet sites but doesn't work for me. Still I get no network access message.
I am using the following model and version:  Model No.: WRT54G, Ver. 7.0  I am not able to connect to the internet through Linksys Wireless Router.  I have tried pinging the default gateway of the ISP provided router IP from the router utility, "Diagnostic", but I am not able to ping it.
I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless network from my router. Currently, I can connect to the wireless network, however I cannot access the internet, but I am able to access the internet with an Ethernet cable in the same router. This is a fairly recent development as we have used this router for wireless internet access (our modem has a wireless network built into it, but it is unreliable) for upwards of 8 months now without problem. One day it simple restored itself to the default name and we were no longer able to access the internet through the wireless portion.
I've been having this problem on my desktop and it's really annoying when i try to play online games that need a constant connection.I have Windows XP and i'm using a wireless connection via a wireless USB adapter. The problem is that the internet is running fine but at random intervals it starts to not send or receive any packets. This will usually cause my to disconnecting during a game causing other players inconvenience. After I d/c the internet will usually take 5-30 seconds to start sending and receiving packets again and regain connection.
i just updated my firmware on my wrt54g ver 2 router, went through all the steps it updated successfully after that i hit the reset button and unplugged the router as tehe online instructions said to. Now i can't connect to the interent at all with either of my two wired computers or through the wireless. All the lights on the front of the router are on like the power, internet, and wireless connectivity. Also the the two WAN ports my computers are connected to in the router the lights are on and it's recognising them. But I can't connect to the internet or even see the router on my network settings. Somone suggested to reconfigure the router but when i go to set up new connection my computer doesn't detect the router and also i cant connect to the router using the ip address 192.168.1.1/ since there is no internet connection. Is there a way to get to the router options or a way to revert it to its old firmware.
I have WRT54G router.  The VIZIO VBR231 unit finds the network OK and indicates it is connected, but nothing will stream, and  when I run a Network Test it gives me this 3 line error:
Connection to 0.0.0.0... successfully established Resolving... could not be established Please check your connection and try again. Â The VIZIO support folks were not beneficial at all, and said something about Port 80 or Port 43 not being open or available. Â When I talked to linksys support, they said I needed to add the VIZIO player's IP (which appears to be 0.0.0.0 in the system settings). Â I poked around a bit, including the Port Forwarding tab on the router setup, but could not see a way to assign 0.0.0.0 to one of these ports, and I am hesitant to experiment. Â I'll probably just return the unit to Costco, but I'm trying this forum as a last ditch effort. Â BTW I have a VIZIO internet TV that I love, and that had absolutely no problem at all connecting to the wireless.
At random times, my internet will "drop" connection and will not download any packets, but I am still able to send packets. My Local Area Connection icon continues to say I am connected, my modem is fully functional, and my cables are good. I can get my internet back up and running for 10 minutes or so by disable and re-enabling my Network Connection. If I simply try the "repair", it gives me an error at the "Refreshing IP" step.I have done a full system scan for viruses and I am clean. My drivers are fully updated, I have disabled my firewalls, and still no luck. During the times when it is down, I can successfully ping my modem through CMD, but I get the time-out error if I ping a site, my default gateway, the DHCP Server, or the DMS Servers.I have made no changes to any major settings on my computer, nor has there been any recent additions/removals of any software.
I use a wireless adapter to connect to our home network but its stopped receiving packets but is sending them. It has worked fine for ages now it just randomly stopped. The network works with everything else (laptops, Xbox and iPods) but my pc wont receive anything. Also our home connection has no password as we live in the middle of nowhere.
I am having a really hard time with a computer that has a wireless connection. Specifically the internet keeps going out. The computer info is that of the affected computer and not the host computer to which the router and modem are connected.
I have an Acer Aspire one that connected perfectly to the internet until I did a reformat. Now it only works if through a wired connection or if the internet does not have a password protection. I have tried on 2 different locations with secure wireless and both have the same result. Packets are sent but not received. All other devices in either location are able to connect to internet through wired or wireless connections.IP address is at 192.xxx and DHCP is enabled, TCP/IP is set to obtain automatically and I deleted and downloaded the newest drivers from the Acer website twice. I also did a winsock reset and tried to clear the arp cache? One of the issues I am getting when I run the diagnostic is "warn default gateway address could not be resolved via arp". I'm not sure how to resolve that.
I reformat my old PC and installed Win XP SP3. There were no errors during installation and everything works ok. However, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my ethernet cable. The LAN connection shows 'Connected' but properties shows some packets sent but zero received. There are no antivirus program installed, windows firewall is turned off as well.
I've tried the following:
- Tried the same ethernet cable connection to another PC and I was able to get on the internet (so no ISP or router issues I assumed).
- Fix the stack using Winsock - didn't work.
- Device Manager now shows Network Adapter > Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Controller #2 (no yellow question mark). Although I had to reinstall the driver after XP installation.
- Here's the result of ipconfig/all:
Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : fiu-cf8cd9c6ded Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
I have an HP Workstation that I have been working at constantly to get up and running on the network, it had "OpenCloudSecurity" adaware on it I believe and I was able to get that off with a couple of my freeware tools. The problem I am having is simply it will not connect to the network and only shows. 0Sent 0 Recieved and doesn't pull and IP configuration. I skimmed around and found that sometimes adaware/spyware can play with the TCPIP Stack and that your best bet is to reset the TCPIP stack and WINSOCK ; I did TCPIP Reset and Winsock multiple times with multiple reboots . I know it isn't the ethernet card because I popped in a live Ubuntu CD and it connected just fine on the wired ethernet.
I had Symfony modem with Asus ap and 1 d-link switch. i changed my modem because that was old and bought TP-Link(TD-W8961ND).It is connected to the Dlink switch and the switch is connected to the Asus Ap(RT-N12) The situation was the same just modem has been changed. Now i have this problem: i have internet with cable every where...behind switch or behind Ap...but when i wanna use internet with wireless via Asus Ap it doesn't work i checked every thing...the Asus Ap has 3 mode(Ap,Router,Repeater)...i chose every one but only repeater mode works. by the way with modem wireless i can get to the internet but the signal is fair for me to use!
OS - Vista Home Premium x32 I have a modem (Comcast) connected to my router (Linksys wireless-g /wrt54g v6) connected to my desktop which runs Vista.recently i am unable to connect to internet using my desktop, but I am still able to use my wireless devices such as wii, laptop, phone, ipad etc. with problem When I first boot up computer I receive error UPnP device host has stopped working. I close that and I have no network connections (linksys or LAN connections-icons) in my network and sharing area. Nothing is listed. When i click diagnose issue i receive the follow error A CABLE IS NOT PLUGGED INTO THE NETWORK ADAPTER "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION* 12" I have changed ethernet cords but still the same error. Nothng has been changed and as stated worked fine 2 days ago. I also did IPCONFIG and all i receive are ETHERNET ADAPTER LOCAL AREA CONNECTION* 12 MEDIA STATE.....MEDIA DISCONNECTED and so on. No IP address is listed.
I have a few devices at my home that connect wirelessly to the internet via wrt54g. I want to connect to the internet via VPN. I would like to find out if it is possible to connect WRT54G router to the VPN via PPTP or L2TP? The VPN company provided me with PPTP and L2TP credentials. I can access vpn via OpenVPN on computers but I would like my TV connect to the internet also via VPN.
I have a WRT54G router and although the local connection works the wireless does not. I have tried unpluging the router and replugging, holding the reset button for 30 seconds powering off 30 seconds and then plugging back it for 30 seconds. The ipconfig /all is below. Â Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : TN-PCPrimary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : HybridIP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoWINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoDNS Suffix
I could not log into any of the 4 FTP sites that I normally update without immediately getting disconnected. The message I am getting from the servers is "Port command failed, error loading directory - disconnected". To save some time and posts, here are the facts....1.) It is definately not my DSL modem. When I connect directly with the modem, without a router, I can connect to FTP fine2.) I have already done a /flushdns in IPconfig.3.) I have already done the typical power off/power on/reboot procedure numerous times.4.) I have already tried PASV mode, and tried turning PASV mode off as well.5.) My login information is correct, and I have problems on multiple sites.6.) This problem has been reported before by other users of WRT54G, but the other forums I see have no solution to the problem.7.) I have already tried using other PC's and different FTP clients on my home network. No matter which PC or laptop I use behind the router firewall, I can't maintain FTP connection. 8.) I have never had to open ports to be able to connect to FTP, since I am the one doing the request. I did also try opening ports 20 and 21. 9.) XP firewall is disabled. 10.) I have tried both ethernet ports on my PC. But then again, that is irrelevant because none of my other PC's which connect wirelessly, can connect either.
I my parents have a WRT54G linksys router, they have a DSL modem. Everything was working fine with the wireless network until one random day POOF! the wireless no longer would connect on laptops. However, the internet is working just fine with the computer that is hardwired up throught the router. Since this is working it lets me know that the router is working fine and routing the connection through hardwire. Hard wired works on laptops but all laptops are unable to join the network and most of the time it will not show up in the list of available networks.Even my iphone wont connect saying unable to join network. We bought a brand new linksys router and same problem. I then took his old router to my house and hooked it up...and WOW it works as it should all devices can connect...even my iphone.
i have a LINKSYS  WRT54G router .. i bought an apple ipod touch recently  and i am unable to connect it to my wifi network. Is there any other password we have to give for connecting deveices through LINKSYS or some changes i need to do in my connection ?
I have a new android, MyTouch Q, through T-mobile.  The phone says it is connected and the wireless icon appears, but I can't access any data or websites.  I've done a hard reset, unplugged both the router and the modem for several minutes, called the phone manufacturer (LG), the carrier (t-mobile), and the internet provider (Cox cable).
