WRT54G Performance Improvements From Router Upgrades
Sep 12, 2011
I'm running a WRT54G as my main router with an old Buffalo router (125g I think) as a repeater. Both are running DD-WRT.
I'm looking at upgrading to a pair of netgear 3700's; also capable of DD-WRT. These have several times the RAM and ROM of the stuff I'm running now. The processor is also about 3.5 times faster as well.
If I do this, should I expect to see an decrease in ping (gaming) or an increase in general performance of the network? Also, there is a lot of video streaming going on, but little/no torrenting. We only run about 5-6 devices on the wireless network, but it has to span 4 floors.
I have a shitty WRT54G right now, and its slow as heck. I was thinking of getting this:
URLS ,I know the later is a modem and a router as opposed to just a router in the first link.I have comcast, I hear it uses Docsis 3.0 right? Mine is a 2.0 modem right now.
I would like to start a new thread on possible enhancements/improvements on the new D-ViewCam v3.0.Allow Events (General Motion detection) to be visible in Playback timeline/period selection, similar to the way of Backup (and Remote Playback) timeline/period selection. We have a 5525 that has not been deployed to production yet so we're using it in the lab. I want to lab some upgrades from 8.2 to 8.6 for some customers but the 5525 comes loaded with 8.6. Would there be any problem with reimaging the 5525 with 8.2? I'm just not sure if there would be an issue with this new hardware running that old software.
I just got my DIR 825. It had 2.02NA Firmware in it. It had a few options that I wanted to use but didn't work. So I thought I would update firmware. I follow the instruction from dlink to install firmware. So I loaded 2.03 and noticed internet connection not working. So then I loaded 2.05 part1 and part2. Still could get internet connection to work but the reason to upgrade the option I wanted worked. So then I loaded 2.06 and still same result. No internet connection. So then I loaded the original firmware back in and internet connection works. Why doesn't the internet work on the other firmware updates. I got the updates from dlink website. I would like to update firmware
I have a 4 member stack of 3750's. We would like to take advantage of wccp and we understand that we will need to upgrade our switch licensing from IPBase to IPServices. My question is do we need to pay for a license for each member in the stack or does one IPServices license upgrade cover the whole stack?
I have WLC 2125 on version 6.0.182.0 and AP's on version 12.4(21a)JA.I also have a load more AP's (newones) 1041's with IOS version 15.2.
So i have to upgrade my WLC because the newones are not compatable with the old WLC version. What will happen to the old AP's ?I was told they will automatically update the IOS version. These AP's (oldones) are not on site, they are in a differnet LAN.
We have just under 500 switches in production (various models but for this discussion we'll stick with 3750's). All are currently running tar IOS (web based). We want to upgrade the IOS from c3750-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE1.tar to.122-55.SE5 but some of our switches do not have enough flash to upgrade successfully. We use CiscoWorks to distribute our software upgrades. I know you can lower the flash requirements on the IOS in CiscoWorks, which I have done (changed from 16Mb down to 12Mb) and the upgrade still fails.
1) How far can I lower the flash installation requirements in Ciscoworks and what are the ramifications?
2) If we decide to change from the tar IOS version to the bin IOS version because we don't even use the web based features anyway, is there an easy way to do this? (CiscoWorks will not upgrade an image from tar to bin)
I have seen this on 4 ASA devices:At devices running older versions than 8.4(5) it is possible to update to 9.1.1 but after updating to 8.4(5) the devices tells me that "There are no upgrades available, your system is up to date" when I "Check for ASA/ASDM updates". I downgraded one device to 8.4.4 and tried to upgrade to 9.1.1 but the update was unsuccesfull (could not boot).
I have spend half day to look up this question in cisco official web site, but get nothing . Any infomation about vpn performance of 3925 router?Produce : cisco 3925 ( Cisco 3925 Security Bundle w/SEC license PAK )Question is , how much ipsec vpn tunnels can be carried as a vpn server of this bundle ? if more licenses may be bought, how much most tunnels can be held?
I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded
A few questions.
Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router) Is there a better alternative unit ? Could there be another cause for my problems and if so how do i diagnose them ?
1. WUMC710 data rates fluctuate extremly under OSX 10.8.2 with an iMac 27" . Meaning, one second, I have about 9 mb/s in the other second, I have 20 mb/s. It is fluctuating permenently. When I use another bridge, eg. ASUS EA-N66, the datarate is very stable and I can see no major fluctuation.
2. The overall datarate when using the WUMC710 with OSX is about 50% less, than with Windows7. I have windows 7 installed as a virtual machine on my iMac. When transfering a file to my NAS device, under OSX, I have an average datarate of 18 mb/s. When I transfer the exact same file with win 7 as a virtual machine on this iMac, I have 35mb/s on average!!!!! When I use another bridge, eg. ASUS EA-N66, the datarate is the same on OSX and on windows.
3. The low datarate and the fluctuations also appear in combination with an other router, so it must be something with the WUMC710. I tested it with the EA6500 and ASUS RT-AC66U.
What I have done:
- Tested with two other adatpers (ASUS EA-N66 and built in Apple Airport). Both show constant and high datarates, so the problems only appear with the WUMC710.
- Tested with another router. The low datarate and the fluctuations also appear in combination with an other router, so it must be something with the WUMC710. I tested it with the EA6500 and ASUS RT-AC66U.
- Tested with another OSX device. Same problems with an iMac 27" and with a MacBook Pro. So not a specific problem with one apple device
- Tested with another windows device. Under windows, the WUMC710 shows way better performance and nearly no flucuations in data rates. As I have tested other Wireless adapters, combinations with other routers and other OSX/Win devices and the problems are alyways the same, It must be a bug of the WUMC710. Performance under OSX 10.8.2 is slow and not constant.
am use router Cisco 7206VXR (NPE-G2) ram 1G now am enable bgp routing full route aboute 400K record , ospf routing maximum traffic throughput is 400 Mbps but the cpu utilize is 80%
I was wondering what is the router performance decrease when using encryption?
For instance the CISCO2911 has 180.73Mbps half duplex switching performance, what would be more or less the decrease in performance if I use encryption?
I'm experiencing quite a slow vpn performance. I've tested different scenarios.* Windows XP with built-ín pptp client and Shrew ipsec client* Linux built-in pptp* wireless and wired connections? I never managed to go above 1MBps neither with windows or linux. I managed to go up to 3MBps using the Shrew client.I've also checked mtu settings and everything seems to be fine.
I recently purchased an EA4500. It started out working really well, but recently I noticed that my speed on my iPhone and iPad has dropped significantly. When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed. When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up. I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.
Just bought the EA4500, updated with the latest cloud firmware. but Wan performace is BAD. download with router 31.56Mbps, without approx 120 Mbps, tried changing MTU from auto to 1470 but no succes.
Is this the best way to get maximum performance and coverage? I have a DIR-655 bridged to supply B/G on channel 11.I Gave Up On Linksys Firmware And Installed DD-WRT.
The wireless connection barely registers in the Speed Test within Cisco Connect - .56 download, 5.35 upload. A cable connection gives 2.4 download and 5.5 upload. The E900 is not far from the computer with no obstacles between. Is the wireless portion of the E900 set up improperly? Is there anything I can do to improve the wireless performance?
we are intending to purchase some 887G router for one of our client, but we not sure if it support "performance routing" or not. coz we don't see it on cisco's datasheet, and "cisco feature navigator" don't have that information.
I have a new 861 router which I have connected to my home broadband cable modem. Got it all working okay and I have access to the Internet but its not as fast as it is if I connect my laptop to the modem.
My Internet is 60mb (was 100 but I downgraded). When I cannot my laptop directly to the cable modem, I get 60mb download speed on speedtest.net If I connect the router's WAN port back to the modem then I roughly get about 40mb, sometimes even 50.
I do not have any IOS firewall configured on the router, just basic ACLs to stop SSH and TELNET from public networks. If I do enable firewall then my Internet connection halves itself. I have read around that this is the case with ios firewalls on these small routers so I've disabled the firewall but I still don't know why I cannot get full Internet speed.
I have EA4500 acting as a router on domainless all-Windows network of two XP machines.Unfortunately, EA4500 aggressively grabs the role of the Master Browser (I am talking about Computer Browser Service) on the network (regardless in which order you power the devices up) and then doesn't serve as a working Master Browser - both Windows machines stop listing the network computers in the "Network Neighborhood" and incur massive timeouts when attempting to view the listing.A quick look with 'browstat.exe status' reveals that indeed the router has announced itself as a Master Browser device, but returns errors when you query it.Quite predictably, without the router, both machinces figure out amongst each other who will be the Master Browser and everything works fine. The problems begin only when you add the router to the network.
1) Is there any way to make EA4500 work like a full-blown Master Browser (the one that not only announces itself, but also serves as such)? having a Master Browser integrated in "always-on" router would really improve the predictability of the network.
2) If not, is there any way to disable the Master Browser on EA4500? For now I managed to achieve that by assigning the router to different workgroup name, but this is lame, as I now can't connect a disk storage to the router and use it within the same workgroup.
I currently upgraded to E3200 wireless router from my previous WRT610. I use itunes/apple airport express to play music located on a Buffalo NAS (LAN connection to E3200) on my home stereo. Before upgrading I was able to do this without a problem. Any suggestions for improving performance with streaming music at home? Internet/access to files on Buffalo NAS wirelessly works fine.
I've recently acquired a Linksys E1200 router--which is more than a week old--from the recommendation of a friend of mine. The service is great and all, but the one thing that frequently bothers me is the seeming constant instability of my router's model. There are moments when the router performs smoothly, but there is as much an instance because the router doesn't seem to work at all even when the lights (and the accompanying connection) on my modem seem to be working in good order.
I know that a router will always have its problems, but this is really a constant problem with the E1200; and if so, if there's any way possible on how I can be able to "stabilize" the said router's performance.
I've bought a E4200 router because of it's "maximum performance". With the normal settings i have a wireless range of maximum 10 m in the building. after 5m I've got a low signal.I tested a cheap Netgear-router, which had the same range as the E4200 a 125 Euro.Is my E4200 broke or is it just a bad buy? The settings are standard (that shouldn't be the problem, I guess!?)
I am backing up massive amounts of data to the cloud. Everytime I do this, the wireless performance on my EA4500 seems to degrade to half its throughput. I am using the 2.4 GHz band.
We have a remote site connected to ADSL line with a Cisco 887VA router attached. This has been working fine for the last couple of months. However, recently, the site have started to complain of performance issues (network slow, applications disconnecting, etc)Looking on the router, we can see evidence of packet loss/timeouts from a simple ping to the internet e.g. [code]
However, we have logged the fault with our service provider and they return all line tests as clear but what is particularly strange is that they also report “and the SNR Margins are well within threshold levels (Upstream 11.5 and Downstream 15.0)” which, unless I’m misunderstanding something, seems to be completely different from what the router itself is reporting. Is there a reason why the service provider’s stats for Noise Margin would appear to be so different from what the router is reporting?
Im getting really poor performance on my 1841, my intial thoughts was a duplex mismatch however although im getting a few CRC errors (root cause unknown at this point) not enough to suggest that the this is the issue.

When mutiple Policy based routing configured on 7600 routers, did the router performace degraded with the number of policy based routing rules? Also, did 7600 running 12.x use per-flow based routing or per packet based routing?
