we are intending to purchase some 887G router for one of our client, but we not sure if it support "performance routing" or not. coz we don't see it on cisco's datasheet, and "cisco feature navigator" don't have that information.

1) Suppose if we have a 3G service enabled SIM card then can we insert the same on the Cisco 880G router and browse internet from the LAN of 880G?
2) I think the HSPA+ standard supports 84 Mbps downlink speed..... so is it supported on 880 G router?
3) Can we configure Cisco 880G as a CME?
As my main router i have the CISCO 880G with the ip 192.168.1.1 at the ethernet interface 0 and my WAN connection at my ethernet interface 4.If the other end of my cable from ethernet intrface 0 i put it to another device which has the IP 192.168.1.2 to its WAN port and define the DMZ port of that other device as transparent with rules to pass all but to register and filter some things.When i have them like this i cannot reah to neither CISCO neither other device with ip 192.168.1.2.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new 861 router which I have connected to my home broadband cable modem. Got it all working okay and I have access to the Internet but its not as fast as it is if I connect my laptop to the modem.
My Internet is 60mb (was 100 but I downgraded). When I cannot my laptop directly to the cable modem, I get 60mb download speed on speedtest.net If I connect the router's WAN port back to the modem then I roughly get about 40mb, sometimes even 50.
I do not have any IOS firewall configured on the router, just basic ACLs to stop SSH and TELNET from public networks. If I do enable firewall then my Internet connection halves itself. I have read around that this is the case with ios firewalls on these small routers so I've disabled the firewall but I still don't know why I cannot get full Internet speed.
Is there any official Cisco reference to describe what is considered to be the highest acceptable production CPU load on 2800 routers? I found the document "Integrated Services Routers G2 - Performance Overview" that states at page 5,Most service providers set their CPU alarms to 60 or 65 percent. Many enterprise customers are comfortable running production networks with CPU around 70 or 75 percent.

Now the DSL was installed a while back for a different need and now that need is gone. What Id like to is have the Cisco router do performance routing and send out internet traffic to either its own external IP or send it over to the DSL if it can get a better response. Presently, Since the Cisco is my gateway, the DSL line is sitting idle.

where can I find the performance for routing (layer 3) for this product ?
I am currently having performance issues running a 3 x stack 3750G (different models) as a core for a network of roughly 12 x distribution switches. [code] As above, I have a 12 port Fibre switch and 2 x 3750G-48 port switches. [code] I tried to change the SDM to route but hit another issue where the 3750g-48 does not support SDM route so I had to revert back to desktop VLAN.Could the SDM Template be the reason for slow performance? If so which SDM Template should i use as this is the Core L3 switch.

What I've observed after this scenario takes place is that network throughput on any port in the entire stack is severely degraded. Prior to the one switch rebooting, I can hit gigabit transfer rates going anywhere on any of the switches in the stack. After one member reboots by itself, I typically hit a transfer wall around 5-20mbps in one direction and sometimes better going the other direction. I've only confirmed this on 3750X stacks and I can replicate it every time. Newest code I've experienced it with is 12.2(58)SE1. I have not seen confirmed reports of this on older 3750 (E, G, plain) stacks of which we have a ton of.
Rebooting the entire stack so that all 3750X members are coming up at the same time solves the transfer rate issue every time. I would think there has to be a better way to get performance back to normal or prevent the performance hit in the first place.
Supervisor Engine 720 options support centralized forwarding rates up to 30Mbps and distributed forwarding rates up to 400Mpps. I never understood the claim of forwarding rate logic in mbps. How i can load the 6509 box to check this forwarding rate?How can the performance increase from 30mbps to 400mbps? is this just because of DFC on all the line cards if yes does it mean i have to add the DFC on SUP as well .

I saw a few things that seemed to be in favor of a Layer 3 switch vs. a Layer 2 switch. Some items like better performance due to switching based on IP vs. switching based on MAC. Some information that will show the 3850 to be a better choice or that the 2960 is capable.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WS-C3560G-24PS service as a distribution switch with six (6) WS-C2950T-24 connected to it. In looking at the utilization on the inter connect links no one is running close to a gig speed and this includes the link between this switch and the core. The CPU load (6%) and memory utilization (30%) on the switch do not seem bad so what else does one watch to see if it needs an upgrade?
We are starting tohave discussions about any needed upgrades on the network. I have an ocassional user that complaines about low performance but looking through the network I can find nothing glaring on a consistent basis that says an upgrade is warranted. I am however looking at things such as the above. Utilization on links, CPU, memory, etc.

I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded
A few questions.
Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router)
Is there a better alternative unit ?
Could there be another cause for my problems and if so how do i diagnose them ?
1. WUMC710 data rates fluctuate extremly under OSX 10.8.2 with an iMac 27" . Meaning, one second, I have about 9 mb/s in the other second, I have 20 mb/s. It is fluctuating permenently. When I use another bridge, eg. ASUS EA-N66, the datarate is very stable and I can see no major fluctuation.
2. The overall datarate when using the WUMC710 with OSX is about 50% less, than with Windows7. I have windows 7 installed as a virtual machine on my iMac. When transfering a file to my NAS device, under OSX, I have an average datarate of 18 mb/s. When I transfer the exact same file with win 7 as a virtual machine on this iMac, I have 35mb/s on average!!!!! When I use another bridge, eg. ASUS EA-N66, the datarate is the same on OSX and on windows.
3. The low datarate and the fluctuations also appear in combination with an other router, so it must be something with the WUMC710. I tested it with the EA6500 and ASUS RT-AC66U.
What I have done:
- Tested with two other adatpers (ASUS EA-N66 and built in Apple Airport). Both show constant and high datarates, so the problems only appear with the WUMC710.
- Tested with another router. The low datarate and the fluctuations also appear in combination with an other router, so it must be something with the WUMC710. I tested it with the EA6500 and ASUS RT-AC66U.
- Tested with another OSX device. Same problems with an iMac 27" and with a MacBook Pro. So not a specific problem with one apple device
- Tested with another windows device. Under windows, the WUMC710 shows way better performance and nearly no flucuations in data rates.As I have tested other Wireless adapters, combinations with other routers and other OSX/Win devices and the problems are alyways the same, It must be a bug of the WUMC710. Performance under OSX 10.8.2 is slow and not constant.
I'm running a WRT54G as my main router with an old Buffalo router (125g I think) as a repeater. Both are running DD-WRT.
I'm looking at upgrading to a pair of netgear 3700's; also capable of DD-WRT. These have several times the RAM and ROM of the stuff I'm running now. The processor is also about 3.5 times faster as well.
If I do this, should I expect to see an decrease in ping (gaming) or an increase in general performance of the network? Also, there is a lot of video streaming going on, but little/no torrenting. We only run about 5-6 devices on the wireless network, but it has to span 4 floors.
What is the Cisco 1921 router performance if connected with 2 Giga Ethernet port? What is the performance if enable GRE tunnel ?

I've tested different scenarios.* Windows XP with built-ín pptp client and Shrew ipsec client* Linux built-in pptp* wireless and wired connections? I never managed to go above 1MBps neither with windows or linux. I managed to go up to 3MBps using the Shrew client.I've also checked mtu settings and everything seems to be fine.

When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed. When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up. I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.

The E900 is not far from the computer with no obstacles between.Is the wireless portion of the E900 set up improperly? Is there anything I can do to improve the wireless performance?
