Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G Stack Slow Performance
Nov 19, 2012
I am currently having performance issues running a 3 x stack 3750G (different models) as a core for a network of roughly 12 x distribution switches. [code] As above, I have a 12 port Fibre switch and 2 x 3750G-48 port switches. [code] I tried to change the SDM to route but hit another issue where the 3750g-48 does not support SDM route so I had to revert back to desktop VLAN.Could the SDM Template be the reason for slow performance? If so which SDM Template should i use as this is the Core L3 switch.

I have a 3750G switch that can't detect another switch or be detected through its stack ports. I tried the recommended test; looping a cable between the ports and rebooting. I get the following message as the switch boots: SM: Detected stack cables at PORT1 PORT2. However, if I connnect another switch, it won't detect it and can't form a stack.

I'm trying to upgrade the IOS ver on a 3750G stack (2 switches), but the img on the switch is too old.The stack is running IOS c3750-i9-mz.121-19.EA1d.bin, and when I tried to upgrade to a newer version, I tried to go to IOS ver c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin since I need to enable ssh on the switch, but the switch did not reload.
Here's a prtscreen of the switch ver:

what IOS ver can I upgrade to that is not already deferred?

have one 3750G stack with 4 switches and this stack is presenting the follow log message:
%PLATFORM_UCAST-4-PREFIX: One or more, more specific prefixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix, and the packets may be software forwarded.
In this stack we are using the layer 3 with OSPF routing, and the current sdm prefer is default:
switch-01-3750#sh sdm prefer
The current template is "desktop default" template.
The selected template optimizes the resources in
the switch to support this level of features for
8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs.(code)

Our customer has a stack of 6 3750G switches. They want to add another switch to the stack. I tried to quote another G, but I got a warning that the G series is EOS January 30,2013. Can I add a 3750X to the stack? I know that no matter what switch I get, I will have to upgrade the IOS in the stack, as the stack is running 12.2(25)SEE2.

I got Two Distribution Switches of Cisco 3750G. Each Distribution have two 3750G switches stacked. I also have one Cisco 3750V2 Access Switch connected to both Distribution. When I am checking for redundancy, I can only get redundancy test pass for one link not atall for other. If I have a link up with Distribution 1 only then its fine; but disappointment with Distribution 2 link. I can see that the switch priorities of Dist 2 is not correct ie. Master's priority is 10 and Member's is 15.
My question is that due to misconfigured priorities on Distribution 2 stack switches I am failing with redundancy if ONLY Dist 2 is up and Dist 1 is down.

I am about rip and replace my current 3750G stack with a 3750X stack. I have trunked over vlan and vtp info and implemented a config so it should be ready to go other then moving cables onto it. However one thing I want to correct with our current setup is that the root bridge on our vlans including vlan 1 is on a separate set of switches that we control, however I would like this new stack to be the root bridge for all of our vlans. It will be the central set of switches that all other switches trunk into. I have pre-set higher spanning-tree priorities for each vlan on the new stack so I expect as I move lines into it that the tree will be re-calculated with it as the root bridge. I've ensured that there are no root guards on any of the other switches trunks and priorities are all at default levels for each vlan. Should I enforce root guard on the trunk interfaces of the new master stack? Most of the trunks are port-channels to the other switches - do I need to set root guard on the Port channel interface or on the individual ports that make up the Port channel? On both? Any other recommendations in regards to implementing spanning-tree with the new stack? I know using port channels eliminates a lot of potential for loops but not every trunk is and I'd still like to have spanning-tree on.

I am running out of ports on a 4507R and would like to use a 3750G-24TS stack that I already have to expand capacity. Is it possible to configure EtherChannel between the 4507R and the 3750G stack and if so what is the best way to do it? without LACP, with active-active mode LACP or passive-active mode LACP...
This is what I have in mind:On the 4507R side I would like to use interface GigabitEthernet3/5 and interface GigabitEthernet4/5 where modules 3 and 4 on the 4507R are "6 1000BaseX (GBIC) (WS-X4306-GB)". On the 3750G side I would like to use ports 28 on both switches in the stack which are equipped with Cisco GLC-T= 1000BASE-T SFP transceiver module for Category 5 copper wire with RJ-45 connector. [URL] Cross-Stack EtherChannel Without PAgP or LACP should look like this:
3750switchstackA(config)#interface gigabitethernet 1/0/28
3750switchstackA(config-if)#channel-group 1 mode on
3750switchstackA(config-if)#switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
3750switchstackA(config-if)#switchport mode trunk
3750switchstackA(config)#interface gigabitethernet 2/0/28
3750switchstackA(config-if)#channel-group 1 mode on
[code]....
is that what I should be doing? is there any benefit to the active-active mode LACP or passive-active mode LACP and which are applicable to the case above?

I currently have Cisco 3750G which is currently live and active and fully populated and only have remote access.
I have an additional same switch which I would like to stack. My initial plans were to have 2 GIbit etherchannels, but I came across the option to Stacks both switch with each other.
When I do a show switch on the live switch its set as a Member: [code]
I would like to add the new switch to the stack without losing the config for the switch which is live. I understand that the highest priority of the switches becomes the Master but as the live switch is Priority 1, would chancing this affect the switches config, or would it lose connection at all?
Also when I plug in the new switch and it reboot how do I ensure it becomes the slave without rebooting the live switch? The cables on the switch do they have to go to port1 on the live switch and port 1 on the new switch or can they be port 1 and port 2?

I've got a mixed stack as follows:
Switch 1 - 3750X-24P
Switch 2 - 3750G-24TS
Switch 3 - 3750G-24T
Running 12.2(53)SE2, IP base. Now I tried upgrading the firmware on the entire stack to 12.2(55)SE4 and ran into this error:(Command: archive download-sw /imageonly /overwrite /allow-feature-upgrade tftp://10.20.20.13/c3750e-universalk9-tar.122-55.SE4.tar)
Error: The image in the archive which would to used to upgade system number 2 does not support that system type.I haven't as yet removed the "3750G-24TS" switch from the stack and re-tried as yet, however, is the expectation that without the 24TS, the upgrade should work?

I have a new 861 router which I have connected to my home broadband cable modem. Got it all working okay and I have access to the Internet but its not as fast as it is if I connect my laptop to the modem.
My Internet is 60mb (was 100 but I downgraded). When I cannot my laptop directly to the cable modem, I get 60mb download speed on speedtest.net If I connect the router's WAN port back to the modem then I roughly get about 40mb, sometimes even 50.
I do not have any IOS firewall configured on the router, just basic ACLs to stop SSH and TELNET from public networks. If I do enable firewall then my Internet connection halves itself. I have read around that this is the case with ios firewalls on these small routers so I've disabled the firewall but I still don't know why I cannot get full Internet speed.

A site that i am responsible for has the following equipment installed:
2 x 3750G Switches configured as a stack using Stackwise - Collapsed Core/Distribution Layer
5 x 2960G Switches as Access Layer switches
WAN connections into the Core/Distribution Layer are all Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre. This is a dedicated CCTV Network with 50 Cameras all streaming video into the Core (decoders connected to access switches)Each 2960G has 2 links to the Core/Distribution 3750G Switches, 1 to each switch - Gigabit.I'm running rapid-pvst on all switches, so spanning tree is blocking one of the ports and effectively halving the 2 gig bandwidth. Next year our customer is going to add in a further 50 - 60 cameras. After monitoring the current loading on the ports in use, we have suggested to the customer that the 2 connections to each should be Ether-channeled together. [code]
First interface takes commands no problem, keep getting the message that etherchannel cannot be configured across different switches in a stack when i try to put the second interface commands on.

I've one Cisco 3750G-12S with ip routing enable, the swtich is with IP Service firmware, with PRR support.Currently set my default static route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.18.71 to my Firewall A Currently all of the VLAN for will be routed to 10.1.18.71
I've created a new VLAN 2 for my 10.1.2.0/24 network with the VLAN interface 2 ip address 10.1.2.10, my intention is to route 10.1.2.0/24 traffic to my 10.1.2.1 by creating the access list and route-map.
I've configure my test pc with a static ip and my gateway pointing to 10.1.2.10 (VLAN 2 gateway) , i'm not able to route to 10.1.2.1.

I've got a requirement to do Inter-VRF routing (need MP-BGP) using a private AS Number on a stack of 7 x 3750G's, my question ultimately is the performance overhead of doing such a change.
The stack will have no more than 300-400 routes even with the duplicates invoked from doing VRF leaking so I can't see much of an issue myself, we already have 2 VRF's and OSPF running in each VRF just don't have MP-BGP to do the VRF leaking.
Ultimately there will be about 4-5 VRF's (I know there's a Software limit of 26 VRF's on a 3750G).

Doing some research, the IP Base does EIGRP on the 3750X, does it do OSPF?
If not I will have to get licence for the 3750X?

I have just received a new Cisco 3750G Switch from my parent company. When attempting to install the switch, I discovered that it will not boot to CLI, only to the bootloader. After using the command boot, the switch attempts to boot the most current IOS version, but fails, stating "error loading XXXXXXXXXX.bin".
Obviously, I just need to get a functional version of the IOS onto the switch to boot, but the problem is exactly how can I do that? All (or most) the commands with which I am familiar are unavailable in the bootloader, so all methods known to me fail. Is there a simple way (maybe using the copy command?) to put the .tar or .bin file onto the flash?

I am trying to create an ACL that walls off a VLAN and only allows it to the internet. This is on a 3750G, currently the 3750G I am attempting this on is in a stack. I have another 3750G that is a standalone.
The first way I attempted this was to create two access-lists: access-list 101 permit tcp 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 any eq 80 access-list 102 permit tcp any 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 established
Let's call the 10.249.1.0 VLAN 2. I applied this to the VLAN2 interface, 101 out, 102 in. It didn't work. If I place a deny statement with nothing else, that works.
The second attempt was this: access-list 101 deny ip 10.249.1.0 0.0.0.255 any access-list 101 permit ip any any
I applied this to a VLAN I wanted to block VLAN2's traffic from reaching, let's call that one VLAN 3.
This lets all traffic from any VLAN (including the one I'm trying to block). If I remove the "permit ip any any", then all VLANs are denied. Which I understand is correct due to the implied deny all. What I don't understand is why it isn't applying the ACL to the specific VLAN.
