No Internet After Windows 7 Update
Sep 18, 2011Basically when I was done on my computer last night, I went to turn it off, and it updated itself took around 10-15 minutes, must of been a pretty big update, anyway's the next morning I started up my computer and I noticed right away that my time was wrong, the date was correct but the time went back 6 hours so where it was 8 am in real time, my pc showed 2 am. I wanted to google what might of caused this only to find that I had no connections avaliable, I was connected throught my motherboard adaptor Realtek PCIe GBE family controller. Lucky I have an wireless internet card as well and that's what im running the net throught now. When i go to device manager and look at that controller there's an error message that reads "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" The option to roll back driver is unavaliable as it's just not clickable, and when I do hardware change check nothing happens. Mar 19, 2012Have been running win 2000 pro for last 5 yrs with trendnet pcitxr 1 gigabit nic card. Never had any problem running & connecting. Now cannot access internet @ 1 gigabit, ok @100mbit, for the most part. sometimes browser will lock-up, firefox or IE. Never had any problems like this before. Have changed nic card, replaced cable modem, wires. Have delete trendnet software and reloaded, ran winsock fix, move router cables, ran directly from cable modem, bypassing router, move nic to new slot, ran ipconfig /release & reset. All to no avail. when I ping comes back good. NIC cards I have tried all seem to be working.

Jun 17, 2012I discovered that my LAN port was not found anywhere, even though it was enabled in BIOS. This prompted me to buy a netgear USB wireless adapter which gives me internet access but I'm having several issues now.I am unable to synch my internet time with any server, and therefore cannot use windows update which requires time to be synched for whatever reason.

Jun 27, 2012My laptop won't connect to the internet at all and status shows limited access to router. It was fine a few days ago until a Windows update. I did a system restore on it back to before the windows update and the internet was working just fine but then there was an automatic windows update again and the connection is gone again. When I try to troubleshoot it says the network adapter is not working properly. I'm currently using the main computer in the house. I can't access any network at all on my laptop and I'm nearly in tears. This has happened before about 7 months ago after a windows update. At that time I did a system restore and reinstalled the updates and it worked just fine. This time nothing. I have tried to check for updated drivers for the network adapters but windows says I'm running the recent ones.

Aug 19, 2012My wife's computer was working fine. Two nights ago, a Windows update was automatically installed. Now, it will not connect to the internet. The map shows it connected to the network. We have several other devices on our network both wired and wireless and all of them are working fine.
I was able to use system restore yesterday to roll back the update. It still did not work. However, I tried connecting to a neighbor's wireless. It said something about refreshing the adapter and then it connected to our network and was working fine. Unfortunately, when she shut down last night, the windows update was reapplied. I turned off automatic updates and tried using system restore. It did not work this time. I removed every update that was applied in the last 48 hours but I still cannot get the computer to connect to the internet. However, it does connect to the internet when I bring it up in Safe Mode.

Recently, I purchase 2 set of Windows 8 professional 64B OEM machine, the IE is ok as I embed the proxy IP/LDAP user name/password etc.. I can also install some Windows APP from the store, however, all live feed seems blocked..Tried quite a lot work around but no cure. Sep 30, 2012I just bought an alienware M14x and about 3 weeks after i set it up the LAN and WAN adapters stopped working and i couldn't get a wireless connection or hardwired connection.
I called technical support and they informed me it was due to a generic windows update that wasn't really compatible with my alienware machine. So i did a system restore and now its working fine and i disabled automatic updates.
Its been about a month since then and now I have all these updates that need to be downloaded and I'm not sure which one will cause my network adapters fail again.

Doing a system recovery which basically reset everything to manufacturers (except the internet connection). Following several sets of directions which seemed like they might apply to me including manually entering the ip info into my LAN.The latest attempt was to try to "reset my winsock catalogue" with: netsh int ip reset catalog command in cmd. This resulted in a list of errors stating that the commands had to be Run as an administrator. As I am logged in as administrator on the computer, I'm not sure how to rectify this latest little bit of folly.

Jun 8, 2012I have a LAN adapter and a USB wireless internet connection. When both connected windows 7 always uses the USB. I tried changing the metric values but no luck. Currently automatic metric on all adapters.LAN connected. ipconfig shows that it is connected to the correct ip/dns/gateway etc. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 24 Then connected USB. ipconfig shows USB connectivity then LAN in that order. Internet is now through USB. IPv4 Route table shows Metric 4249 for LAN and USB is 41. Gateway for USB shows "on-link". netstat -rn shows USBDEVICE on top.Changed LAN metric to 5 and now the route table shows LAN as 9 (not sure why it added 4) and USB as 41.
Netstat shows LAN then USB. ipconfig shows LAN then USB.But still connection is through USB. How do I know? Task manager shows utilization only through USB as well as speed is showing around 1mbps rather than LANs 10mbps. How can I get win7 use LAN while USB is connected. I am just trying to use USB as a backup just in case I lose LAN connection.I thought i will make USB metric manually to say 10. But it says I have to reconnect for it to be effective. Currently USB still shows below LAN and still has 9 and 41 in the table.Disconnected USB. Table shows LAN metric as 24 (Not sure why it got changed from 9 and setting got reverted by to automatic)Reconnected USB. Feb 22, 2011I recently moved my computer from my home to my girl friend's house, and there is a minor problem. The laptop that has win7 already is in a homegroup. For some reason my computer(win7) does not want to connect to their homegroup. But I moved past that. Now I am trying to connect to her computer. She has Win xp. I used the same Ethernet cord from my house that I used to share internet over at her house, and I cannot seem to find out what is wrong. On the win7 it says Unidentified network-No Internet Access, and on the XP it says limited or no connectivity. I set the XP ICS to on (share) for the Ethernet port. The XP has the internet and is using a USB wireless adapter to a router. My computer is way to far from the router and neither can be moved.
Notes: I can share files, but no internet can be passed. XP = Host and Win 7 = Client
