How To Update Windows 2000 Settings For Gigabit Internet Speed
Mar 19, 2012
Have been running win 2000 pro for last 5 yrs with trendnet pcitxr 1 gigabit nic card. Never had any problem running & connecting. Now cannot access internet @ 1 gigabit, ok @100mbit, for the most part. sometimes browser will lock-up, firefox or IE. Never had any problems like this before. Have changed nic card, replaced cable modem, wires. Have delete trendnet software and reloaded, ran winsock fix, move router cables, ran directly from cable modem, bypassing router, move nic to new slot, ran ipconfig /release & reset. All to no avail. when I ping comes back good. NIC cards I have tried all seem to be working.
If I connect wire directely to the PC Ethernet port the Internet speed is about 400 Mbit/sec (speedtest.net)When my PC is connected through the Linksys E4200 Internet speed is not above 90 Mbit/sec.
How do I update the firmware on my N wireless router with version 2000? It says there is an update, but I can't update it with the one firmware update that's available for download.
why my Internet download speed is very slow on network settings it reads 100 Mbps which I know is not the download speed but I know it's not as low as 67 kbps which is what my download reads on Steam or is it Steam itself?, anyways it's a Verizon DSL setup
According to the Time Warner website, my Road Runner Turbo with Power boost is capable of download speeds up to 15 Mbps, which seems to be far surpassed by all wireless routers. So what are the benefits of routers such as the Netgear WNR2000 and beyond with speeds up to 300 Mbps vs the Netgear WNR1000 with speeds up to 150 Mbps?
I'm more than willing to spend more for increased performance, but don't fully understand what benefits I'll see by dropping more than about $40 on something like the WNR1000.By the way, I'm in a two bedroom apartment and regularly have two laptops, a PS3, and Droid X connected to the internet.
Basically when I was done on my computer last night, I went to turn it off, and it updated itself took around 10-15 minutes, must of been a pretty big update, anyway's the next morning I started up my computer and I noticed right away that my time was wrong, the date was correct but the time went back 6 hours so where it was 8 am in real time, my pc showed 2 am. I wanted to google what might of caused this only to find that I had no connections avaliable, I was connected throught my motherboard adaptor Realtek PCIe GBE family controller. Lucky I have an wireless internet card as well and that's what im running the net throught now. When i go to device manager and look at that controller there's an error message that reads "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" The option to roll back driver is unavaliable as it's just not clickable, and when I do hardware change check nothing happens. Also when I try to update the driver it says that the driver is currently up to date. I am using...

Am switching from windows95 to Windows 2000 Professional, & During the Pre - Installation preparations, I discovered that the Machine contains a LAN Card, But i cant find it in the HCL FOR WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL.What should i do to get the system back in the service?
I've got a Buffalo LS-WXL5BF connected directly to one of my PC's gigabit ethernet ports. The link in the Win7 network and connections is showing it connected at 1Gbit but the actual transfer speed tops out around 150-200 Mbit or roughly 15-25MB/s (which is well under what the unit is advertised to perform at.)
I'll be swapping out the cable that came with it for a good CAT5E I got from monoprice but other than that I'm not sure what to try.
So just recently my Internet has been running a lot slower than normal at different times of the day (completely random, could be fine for hours then just turns slow). I know it's not the Internet itself, since it's only happening on my computer, and none others in the house - and I'm far from capped. I've run AVG, Spybot & Malwarebytes' scans and have found no infections of any kind. I've run TCP Optimizer and used the "reset to windows default settings" feature, which also hasn't worked one bit. I've tried different Ethernet cables and different plugs in the modem and no improvement.
i have new laptop and trying to vpn into office with static ip. and the rdp into work station. vpn connects fine although says iv6p has no network access.. and rdp will not connect
I have a desktop and a laptop computer. both equipped with Gigabit Lan port... I connect them with Straight cable by assigning both computers IP address. I havnt use any switch or router between computers.... The problem is that my transfer speed is about= ~10MB/s..... As far i know the transfer speed should be around 70-80MB/s (125MB/s for Gigabit Lan).....
My laptop will not connect at full speed whilst on a wired connection. All my other laptops connect at full gigabit speed OK using the same cable. My XPS will only connect at 100Mbps.I have the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
I am using Win 7 64Bit but I have also tried Ubuntu 12 with the same result. Is this a known problem ?I think this may have been like this since new, My most expensive laptop is the slowest on my network.
I have a windows 7 computer and a windows 2000 on a wired network. The windows 7 and 2000 previously played nicely although it was a bit of a pain to get it to work the first time, don't really remember what the issue was. I have a big old CAD plotter connected to a parallel port on the windows 2000 computer and previously was able to use it from the windows 7 computer. I was also able to access any file on the windows 2000 from windows 7, it all worked fine a few months ago. I haven't had the win 2000 computer on for a while but recently needed to use the plotter. I now get a log-on error when trying to access the win 2000 from the win 7, but it shows up on networks. The log-on error window shows a domain with the name of the windows 7 computer listed as the domain name, but nothing is set to be on a domain. I can access the files on the windows 7 computer from the win 2000 computer with no issues in that direction. There is no home group set up (think that was the issue the first time) Windows 7 is always updating itself and I suspect that's part of the problem, I am guessing something went back to a default during an up-date but I can't find it.
I have a Linksys E3000 router, which originally had all sorts of security settings, and names for the wireless networks, etc. It was all set up. I upgraded the firmware, and all of those settings sent away. Is there a way to reconfigure the settings to get them back to how they were, and if so, how do I do it?
I am currently connected to my router via a 100 megabit cable (the router port itself is either 100M or 1G, I can't remember). There are no free ports on the router, but I want to connect additional computers to the network. If I get a gigabit switch and connect two of my PCs to it using gigabit cable, can they communicate at gigabit speeds, or will they be limited by the 100M connection back to the router? (In other words, does traffic between two computers on the switch have to be sent through the router, or not?)
I'm using a CAT5e cable. But it gives only a 10 MB/s file sharing speed. What is the reason for this? (In both the computers under "Local Area Connection Status" it shows 100 Mbps for the speed)
my problem is that i have a computer connected via gigabit lan with a cat5e cable.i have a notebook with a d-link dwa-140 usb wifi adapter connected.and the max transfer speed i get is 14 mbps. d-link dir-655 firmware 1.34eu.in windows it reports 300mbps.in the router it reports 270 mbps sometimes 300. the settings in the router is 40mhz only,. ch 13. wpa2 aes. as described in the sticky.the devices are within 3 ft of each other.
I cant figure it out and can not find a solution. All three computers have gigabit nics, I have gigabit router and switch, my d-link 321 is set to gigabit, the only thing on my network that is not gigabit is my printer. I'm not getting gigabit transfer speed from my computer to dlink 321. I rarely do computer to computer transfers, so I dont know what the speed is of that. The best tranfer rate is from 7-12mb. I am also using cat 5e wires on all connections. What am I missing?
I'm having a issue when configuring Cisco ACS 5.2 appliance 1121 to integrate windows 2000 Active Directory as an External Users Database.I'm using an account with administrator privileges on AD (can create computer objects). The ACS register itself successfully to the domain but it doesn't retrieve the AD Groups, even when i change the seach base and filter. At this link says that ACS supports AD over Windows 2003, 2008 and 2008R2 but it doesnt say that not supports Windows 2000.[URL]
I have purchased Linksys WRT320N because my ISP give me speeds of 400 mb/s download and 200 mb/s upload. After I tested the speed my router get only 137 mb/s, why is that? I paid for gigabit router!?
i'd like to force the speed/duplex of the integrated Gigabit interface on a LAP1042N, managed by a 4402 running software version 7.0.98 but I cannot find the command either by command line or on the GUI.
This is an older desktop, Been utilizing the net gear to get on the Internet for months and it was working fine, shows it is connected to ssid but ip shows up as 0.0.0.0 I have other home computers hooked up and work g so I located there ip address, can I input it myself ? If so how?
I have a domain with a domain controller Server 2003. I have a backup dc running an application with server 2008. The shared folder I am trying to access is on an nt server 2000. We have had a mapped drive "I:" and have used it for years. Our copier also scans to a shared folder on the server 2000 machine. All of the desktop systems are xp sp3 with one W7 machine. A couple of weeks ago when user attempted to access the shared/mapped drive, an error would occur that "the drive was in use and they could not be logged on". Sometimes the error would say "you don't have permission to access the drive." Mind you no settings have been changed on the network. When either of these errors would occur it would occur for everyone but if I rebooted the server everyone could connect again. The same errors would occur the next day or 6 - 8 hour later. Now the error has occured "Drive is already in use and you cannot be logged in" (I have tried drive Z as well the drive is not in use) and restarting the serever no longer works. No one can access the shared drive. I have unmapped the drive on my system and have attempted to reconnect, I enter the path and check reconnect at logon and it asks for a password. I enter the administrator password (which is what I always used) and it just pops right back up asking for a password as if I entered nothing. I can ping the server with the shared folder and even logon remotely so I know it is not a physical disconnect. I am not sure what changed and have followed many suggestions found to no avail. We cannot access the shares or scan.
I had this card working on this notebook with Windows XP, but with only 256mb ram it ran too slow. So I went back to 2000 on it. But I can't get the card to work, I've tried using the setup, the link light on the card does flash on and off. But in the linksys program just says no association with access point and says WPC54GS is inactive. I tried just installing the driver when it detects it but that didn't work. Also I try to start the wireless configuration and just get error 1747 the authentication service is unknown. What do I need to do to get the card working on here so I have internet access?
I just bought this wireless g pci card and installed the software from the cd on to a windows 2000 pc. When I went to run the software I can only click on the exit button. I looked on the forums and saw that for win 2000 you should only install the drivers by allowing your computer to detect the card. I uninstalled the software but my computer wont detect the card now and if I reinstall the software I cant even open it up anymore. The card is not listed in the device manager at all. Would installing i the first time have created anything in the registry that would have been left behind in the uninstall and would it be blocking the computer from detecting this as new hardware?
I have a question about speed negotiation process between interfaces. I have 3650X Sw and 2960S-48port. All ports of two are GigabitEthernet, however the link between them is only 100Mb/s, Full duplex. I try to set the speed 1000 Mb/s manually in the interface then the interface never up. Its status is down/down. I must set back to speed auto. I show interface Gigabit0/24 in Sw 3650-X and figure out that there are many output drop (over 600000). I clear counter then after two days the output drop is over 70000. This link is trunk link between two switches, all ports of access SW are Gigabit and connect to PC. First, I thinks the 3650X is throttled somewhere in output direction of trunk link. But there is another trunk link (Gi0/23) to another 2960S-48port and no output drop number in this interface. This Giga 0/23 speed is 1000 Mb/s (auto speed, auto duplex)
Does any outside things impact the speed negotiation process between 2 interfaces? And output drop number may caused by abnormal speed between two Gigabit interface?
