View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a question about speed negotiation process between interfaces. I have 3650X Sw and 2960S-48port. All ports of two are GigabitEthernet, however the link between them is only 100Mb/s, Full duplex. I try to set the speed 1000 Mb/s manually in the interface then the interface never up. Its status is down/down. I must set back to speed auto. I show interface Gigabit0/24 in Sw 3650-X and figure out that there are many output drop (over 600000). I clear counter then after two days the output drop is over 70000. This link is trunk link between two switches, all ports of access SW are Gigabit and connect to PC. First, I thinks the 3650X is throttled somewhere in output direction of trunk link. But there is another trunk link (Gi0/23) to another 2960S-48port and no output drop number in this interface. This Giga 0/23 speed is 1000 Mb/s (auto speed, auto duplex)
Does any outside things impact the speed negotiation process between 2 interfaces? And output drop number may caused by abnormal speed between two Gigabit interface?
I have an Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs) made and trying to test the Gigabit Interface on a 3845 Router with a fail result. The interface will show up/up only if I set the interface to 100M/Full Duplex when I plug-in the Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs). I don't see this Gigabit Interface @ 3845 router has any option to set it to internal or external loopback.

All three computers have gigabit nics, I have gigabit router and switch, my d-link 321 is set to gigabit, the only thing on my network that is not gigabit is my printer. I'm not getting gigabit transfer speed from my computer to dlink 321. I rarely do computer to computer transfers, so I dont know what the speed is of that. The best tranfer rate is from 7-12mb. I am also using cat 5e wires on all connections. What am I missing?

According to the client's card and the WLC, the client is connected to 802.11g, at a speed of 54Mbps. To perform my test, i'm using IPERF (available here [URL) The result is as follow:

I've got a Buffalo LS-WXL5BF connected directly to one of my PC's gigabit ethernet ports. The link in the Win7 network and connections is showing it connected at 1Gbit but the actual transfer speed tops out around 150-200 Mbit or roughly 15-25MB/s (which is well under what the unit is advertised to perform at.)
I'll be swapping out the cable that came with it for a good CAT5E I got from monoprice but other than that I'm not sure what to try.

I havnt use any switch or router between computers.... The problem is that my transfer speed is about= ~10MB/s..... I am using a Cisco ME 3800 switch with 24 Gig and 2 Tengigabit interface. But after configuring the Tengig int with ip add and negotiation it is no know visible in the switch. Instead TenGig I am seeing two (Gi0/1 and G0/2). Not even showing the Tengig in the running config.

There are no free ports on the router, but I want to connect additional computers to the network. If I get a gigabit switch and connect two of my PCs to it using gigabit cable, can they communicate at gigabit speeds, or will they be limited by the 100M connection back to the router? (In other words, does traffic between two computers on the switch have to be sent through the router, or not?)

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of 3845 routers, some running IOS 12.4(22)T2 and earlier and some running 12.4(24)T4. On the ones with 12.4(22)T2 and earlier, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface down/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. On the ones with 12.4(24)T4, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface up/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. Interestingly in both cases, the "show controller g0/1" command shows " network link is down (NO CARRIER)" when there is no cable attached. It makes sense to us that the interface status would be down/down when there is no cable attached. It does not makes sense to us that the interace would be up/down. Did Cisco at some point change their philosophy on whether an interface should show down/down or up/down when there is no cable attached, or is this a bug?

Now cannot access internet @ 1 gigabit, ok @100mbit, for the most part. sometimes browser will lock-up, firefox or IE. Never had any problems like this before. Have changed nic card, replaced cable modem, wires. Have delete trendnet software and reloaded, ran winsock fix, move router cables, ran directly from cable modem, bypassing router, move nic to new slot, ran ipconfig /release & reset. All to no avail. when I ping comes back good. NIC cards I have tried all seem to be working.

I have a Linksys WRT320N Wireless Router and I am having an issue where it seems like gigabit (10/100/1000) ready computers are getting fast ethernet (10/100) speeds and fast ethernet computers/devices are receiving gigabit speeds. What I mean is the computers that are gigabit ready and are using cat6 cables are showing green icons on the Linksys WRT320N router and my network switch, which is only 10/100 ready and uses a cat5e cable to connect to the router, shows a blue icon indicating it is connected at gigabit speeds. Is the manual incorrect and green icons really mean gigabit speeds?

At this point I do not have, or want, Internet connectivity. I would, however, like to call web pages on the Windows 7 PC from the Windows XP PC. I'm running an Optiplex 330 with the Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit ethernet card.
The computer is running Windows 7, 64bit, but there do not appear to be any drivers for that OS.I tried selecting Vista 64bit, but there were no drivers. The Vista 32bit doesn't work.
Then I went to Broadcom and found these drivers: [URL] the W764bit drivers didn't change the fact i'm still on a 100Mbit card (as seen on Local Area Connection Status screen and the Device manager)
Cable modem into cisco-linksys E4200. 2 of the ports going out from the router plug into the wall, where one goes to the master bedroom and one goes to the living room. Once it gets to the wall jack in each of those rooms it goes out to a gigabit switch. Each of those two rooms has a computer and a TV connected, and the living room as a blu-ray also connected to the switch.The third port going out from the E4200 router goes to another gigabit switch, which is connected to a couple more computers in that room.All of the cables are either cat5e or cat6. The long cables running through the wall from the server room to the living room and master bedroom is 24gauge 4pair cat5e, it was run by a general contractor.
When I transfer between any of the computers on the network as it sits I get 11MB/sec. I get that number by clicking more details on the file transfer. In the network tab of task manager it sits pretty consistently at 10%.If I move any of the computers to be connected to the SAME switch (i tested all 3) i can transfer around 60MB/sec.Based on this testing my initial instinct is to say that the cable running between the rooms is limiting the transfer speed. However the cable is cat5e and rated for gigabit. Neither of the runs are anywhere near 300ft long. Plus the consistency of the transfer speeds at 11MB/sec makes me think it's being clearly capped at 100base-T speeds as opposed to just slowing down due to interference of the cable.As a side note there is a place in the router that tells you the speed of each port. For some reason it has one of my ports listed as gigabit and the others listed as 10/100Mbps. The yellow 3 foot cable i have is listing as gigabit, when i swap it with another cable in the router it changes the gigabit port to the one this yellow cable is on, very odd, however regardless of whether the router says its gigabit it only transfers at 11MB/sec anyway.What I'm wondering is what could be causing this limitation besides the two cables running through the wall? Is that the only thing that could be doing it? What is the best way to really test it out? Do I need to buy some kind of network testing device that tests throughput?
I ran into a strange problem. When I want to change the ethernet0 interface of a Cisco 828 sdsl router, but there is no command to do that in the interface configuration mode (speed 100 and duplex full). A show interface gives 10MB half duplex and I want to change this.
