Windows Network Status - Not Connected / No Connections Available

There was a big storm last night, and when I woke up I found that I couldn't connect to the internet. I have my computer plugged into the cable modem. The Windows network status says "Not connected, No connections are available". The onboard NIC that I had been using is no longer showing up in the device manager. I figured lightening might have knocked it out, even though my computer is behind a UPS and surge protector, so I bought a PCI ethernet card. This installed correctly and is showing up in the device manager, but I'm still getting the same error. When I unplug the ethernet cable, there is no change in the status.

I would like to know something I have experienced quite often these last couple of weeks at my own offices as well as at some of my clients, on machines all running XP Professional, most with SP3 installed.
Sometimes it happens that only one pc at a time would have no physical connectivity to any outbound services like the internet, or any connection to another pc or the server running SBS 2003 for that matter, although the Network Status in the bottom right hand corner says it is connected, even at 100Mbs.
When opening Network Connections and I view the status of the LAN connection, it shows that packets are being sent and received, but I am not even able to ping another IP on the network, timing out every time.
The only solution to the problem seems to be "repairing" the network connection, and then all works fine again.
I would like to know what might be causing this in the first place and also what exactly a "network connection repair" is actually repairing? The reason I am asking is that I would like to find out if it might be a sign of any hardware starting to malfunction or anything in that regard, so that one could be in the clear about what to possible expect in the future.

On my Switch (3750), i have a host connected. Checked the interface status and it shows as "connected". However, when i tried checking the MAC connected to that interface, its not showingI have my Switch (3750) connected to a Router (3845). On the Switch, i have a printer connected in an interface. I am seeing the Printer's MAC associated with the switch port. However, when i checked the ARP table; no entry seen for the Printer's MAC. What are the possible reasons for this? We have several same kind of devices connected to network and they are fine.

So I'm trying to fix gateway laptop running Vista. The computer can connect both wired and wirelessly to the internet just fine. Sadly that's all it does. It doesn't let you use IE/Firefox/Skype or video games or anything. Every program acts like you're not connected. All signs seem to point towards it working just fine. I'm at a loss and can't figure out what's wrong with it.
Also, the internet works just fine if you start in safe mode with networking. You can use IE/Firefox just fine. I've tried turning off proxies and such but there aren't any as far as I can tell.

So I just installed Windows Server 2003 64 bit on an older HP Proliant DL360 G5 and am trying to connect it to my network but neither of the 2 NIC's are showing up under Network Connections... the only option I am given is the ''Add Network Places Wizard''.
I have an ethernet cable plugged into NIC 1 and the LED's work so I know it's not a bad NIC card- do I have to download drivers for the NIC? Do I download them to a USB/CD and then just boot from that?

When I turned on my laptop today I noticed there was a new icon in my Network Connections section. It's called Internet Gateway. I haven't downloaded anything (weird or otherwise), I'm still able to connect to the internet and nothing seems to be amiss.

I have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue).When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections.It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.

My phone is a Nokia-N900, and I find the most useful way to interact with it from my PC is by ssh. Luckily it is possible to switch out the usb-networking module in the devices kernel to make it appear to windows as a generic RNDIS gadget. Plugging it into a windows PC I can now ssh into it, I can open an sftp session, everything works perfectly...
Except I can't access the web. I can't view other network resources. I look in the network connections section in the control panel and see my two connections, but I don't see any way to set which one to use for what. Seeing as I only use usb0 for ssh and eth0 for everything else, it seems I need a way to set it up so that usb0 only gets port 22 or something similar.
Is there any way to achieve this, or another method by which I could leave my phone connected to my Pc while using it for other network tasks?

I am having trouble keeping my computer connected to the internet...even though it says my signal strength from my wireless internet is excellent. every time i get online i put in my url and it loads the page but if i click on anything on that page it asks me to connect again even though my computer says im still connected.

I'm currentlly running Both Wired and Wireless GPO via Win2008r2, on my WIRED connections after clt-alt-del logoff my network connection stays open (pingable)While connected via wireless (WLC 5508 and WCS) Windows AD 2008r2 ;Radius Server 2003.
All Clients authenticate using Network Authen (Wireless Network Connection Properties) WPA2 Data encryp AES EAP type PEAP.Authentication Method (EAP-MSCHAP) I have no problems connecting via SSID etc... my Question is how do I keep the TCP connection open after initiating a logoff from Windows. (Closing network connection) OPEN!

It's Windows 7 laptop that connects to my home wireless network, but won't load any internet pages and just times out. Other old laptops connect to this network (and load pages) just fine. If I take my new laptop to another wireless network - ie McDonalds - it connects and loads pages just fine.

I was online then all of a sudden i got disconnected and now it won't show any network available. My other laptop and xboxes are online just fine, so I know then it's an issue with my one laptop. But I don't know how to fix it. No networks are found at all and internet only works when it's wired. I have a HP laptop running windows 7.How do I get my network to show up so I can have wirless internet again? Someone thought maybe new drivers but no clue what I really need to download. I only know basics of computer stuff.

get a status on Mac Lion and/or Windows 7 64-bit SSL VPN support for the RV220W? QuickVPN (for Windows 7 64-bit users) and IPSecuritas (for Mac Lion users) are our current workarounds, but for folks that use/own their own equipment we prefer SSL VPN. This is why we retired our WRVS4400N v2 for the RV220W.

My wireless connection for my laptop is showing upas N on Win 7 but G on DIR-655 status page??? I'm confused. Am I getting N speeds/coverage or stuck with G. If G, why? I accendentally turn off the p.c. Without properly shutting it down... When I turn on the computer again, there is no more internet connection... I clicked the network icon on the siede to find out why... It is stated: Not connected; No connections are available... I clicked the "Troubleshoot" link, and accdg. To it: the local area connection is experiencing driver or hardware related problems... I clicked next and it says the wireless network adapter is experiencing problem... I connected my camera to my router with a network cable. It is a DCS-2121, H/W Ver A2, with firmware 1.04_FR.It received an IP address and I could access it fine with a web browser.Then I configured it to work wireless.I disconnected the cable but the camera wasn't accessible.Since I couldn't find it I re-attached it with a network cable, but this didn't work.So I pressed the Reset button to start over again.However, now I cannot get it to work anymore. When I plug in the camera and have it connected with a network cable to the router the status light remains RED.When I plug it in without a network cable the status led remains RED.When I connect it with a network cable to a computer directly, the status led remains RED.I've tried changing the network settings of my router to use 192.168.0.x as range, but it makes no difference. In all cases the status indicator remains RED.

I've been trying to find a response or a fix to this issue for a few weeks now.My DIR-655 RevB router is currently at firmware 2.07NA, and has speeds of around 30Mbps down and 10Mbps up when connected directly through wired connections.However over wifi, I am only getting around about 5 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. I've tried the 'usual' fixes suggested on here, change broadcast signal to manual, not auto, shutting of QoS shaping, all of that. However nothing seems to be improving the speed.

The internet connection at our business goes down overnight, every night. We then have to turn off the router and turn it back on. It is not the fault of the ISP, but some setting somewhere, either in the router (SG 310 Snapgear) or in a particular program being accessed each night. Fact is, for the time being we are just trying to find out the precise time when this happens, so we can find out a reason. Is there a utility that can monitor the status and tell you at what exact point it stopped?

My 655 router (RevB, Firmware 2.03) is connected from one side to a DSL modem and on the side to two wired PC's and via wi-fi to several other wireless clients (two smart phones and two notebooks). All is well until I try to connect a specific notebook. Connection is estabished for about 30sec and then the router drops ALL connections (including internet and local network!) and I must re-start him by un-plugging from power. I have a Linksys WRT120N with two desktops connected via wired connections.In the house, there are two students accessing the Internet through WiFi via the WRT120N.One of the laptops (on an Apple laptop) seems to lose its' connection from time to time.The other laptop (Lenovo) is located the furthest distance from the router and only gets two bars signal strength.Would my best option to improve the signal strength for the Lenovo laptop and hopefully, also increase reliability for the Apple laptop be to purchase a new router such as a Linksys E1500 with speed boost or would it be best to try a Linksys range extender (RE1000)?

The router works fine until I plug the 4th wire in the back, which goes to a 2nd desktop computer, then it is only a matter of time until the router drops all internet connections including the direct wire to desktop #1, wireless, and the other two wires.This is my 2nd e2000 router since Amazon replaced the first one after about 4 months as it was having the same problem.

I have a dual boot computer - Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium. When booted into Vista I can map my Network and connect to the Internet, a network printer (ethernet) and a second Windows XP computer. When I boot into Windows 7 I can still access the internet and my networked devices but I cannot map my network. Also, the network system icon (bottom right-hand screen) shows erroneously that no connections are available - but clearly they are! The attachments show the status of my Vista and Windows 7 connections. The only thing that appears to be odd is that my Windows 7 system is set to 'Public' and my Vist system is set to 'Home'. I have tried all manner of things to change Windows 7 to 'Home' but to no avail.
