I have some questions about monitor of status of services on Network Devices such as HSRP, Etherchannel (between Access ports and Servers), etc. How we can track those information in addition to Syslog. Is it possible that the Fault Monitor displays them?
View 1 RepliesThe internet connection at our business goes down overnight, every night. We then have to turn off the router and turn it back on. It is not the fault of the ISP, but some setting somewhere, either in the router (SG 310 Snapgear) or in a particular program being accessed each night. Fact is, for the time being we are just trying to find out the precise time when this happens, so we can find out a reason. Is there a utility that can monitor the status and tell you at what exact point it stopped?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having some issues with my network connectivity for a while now, and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. I run a wired connection to an Ethernet port in the wall of my university dorm. I have verified that it is not a global network issue or an ISP issue; this problem only happens on my PC.My network connection drops/disconnects randomly throughout the day. When I say disconnect/drop, I mean that all attempts to ping or access the internet fail. A few minutes pass before the Network and Sharing center task tray icon shows a warning sign saying that my computer could not connect to the internet.This is temporarily fixed by doing an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but I have to execute these two commands about 2-3 times a day on average.
There is no exact interval between the disconnects, nor does it happen when I am running particular programs. The disconnect happens regardless of what I am doing at the moment (gaming, browsing the internet, leaving the computer idle).A month back, I installed some Windows Updates and suddenly my internet connection was almost completely broken. I was experiencing the same issue, but much more frequently. My internet would die within 10 seconds of executing any download, but Windows wouldn't recognize that something was wrong. At first I thought the ZoneAlarm, Avast!, or the SafeConnect (as required by my university) services were causing trouble but uninstalling/disabling these services did not fix the problem.I also tried reverting to my default ethernet drivers, which did nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of my drivers to no avail.However, the internet worked just fine in Safe Mode with Networking, so I cross-referenced the processes/services running in Safe Mode w/ Networking against my normal startup, guessing something else was at play.After some poking around, I discovered that disabling the Server and Browser services permanently fixed the issue of instant connection death. But the initial problem I described still remains;random, less frequent internet connection drops.
My system problem is after starting the computer within 5minits network services are disabled and network path not connected but communication is working when i am testing the ping command.

It is a DCS-2121, H/W Ver A2, with firmware 1.04_FR.It received an IP address and I could access it fine with a web browser.Then I configured it to work wireless.I disconnected the cable but the camera wasn't accessible.Since I couldn't find it I re-attached it with a network cable, but this didn't work.So I pressed the Reset button to start over again.However, now I cannot get it to work anymore. When I plug in the camera and have it connected with a network cable to the router the status light remains RED.When I plug it in without a network cable the status led remains RED.When I connect it with a network cable to a computer directly, the status led remains RED.I've tried changing the network settings of my router to use 192.168.0.x as range, but it makes no difference. In all cases the status indicator remains RED.

I recently upgraded from Linksys WRT54G to D-Link DIR-655 firmware version 2.0. All the features are working as advertised however i am having difficulties accessing UPnP services in my network. I have a Samsung 55" internet enabled TV connected to the router and also have few devices that can stream over UPnP to the TV. The option to enable the UPnP is enabled in the router configuration however its not finding devices in the network ... comparing that with Linksys ... all i had to do is enable the UPnP and all my devices discovered each other and started streaming without any issue. What do i need to do in D-Link to enable the UPnP devices ...
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've had a Linksys WRT54GS running DD-WRT (build 14929) for a while. I recently bought another Linksys (Cisco) router (WRT160NL) and installed DD-WRT on it (build 16785).
I'd like to keep the WRT54GS as my main router since it is very stable and use the WRT160NL as a network switch, NAS device, and asterisk server. I already have samba installed, configured, and running fine on the 160. However, the 160 is running as a router so only devices connected to it can access network shares.
How can I configure the 160 so that all devices in my network can access its network shares?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere was a big storm last night, and when I woke up I found that I couldn't connect to the internet. I have my computer plugged into the cable modem. The Windows network status says "Not connected, No connections are available". The onboard NIC that I had been using is no longer showing up in the device manager. I figured lightening might have knocked it out, even though my computer is behind a UPS and surge protector, so I bought a PCI ethernet card. This installed correctly and is showing up in the device manager, but I'm still getting the same error. When I unplug the ethernet cable, there is no change in the status.

I fill out the password, and the username the way it should be, but then when I try to get the modem to connect, it says the network status is busy.
I would like to know something I have experienced quite often these last couple of weeks at my own offices as well as at some of my clients, on machines all running XP Professional, most with SP3 installed.
Sometimes it happens that only one pc at a time would have no physical connectivity to any outbound services like the internet, or any connection to another pc or the server running SBS 2003 for that matter, although the Network Status in the bottom right hand corner says it is connected, even at 100Mbs.
When opening Network Connections and I view the status of the LAN connection, it shows that packets are being sent and received, but I am not even able to ping another IP on the network, timing out every time.
The only solution to the problem seems to be "repairing" the network connection, and then all works fine again.
I would like to know what might be causing this in the first place and also what exactly a "network connection repair" is actually repairing? The reason I am asking is that I would like to find out if it might be a sign of any hardware starting to malfunction or anything in that regard, so that one could be in the clear about what to possible expect in the future.

I bought some days ago Tp-Link Wireless Router (Model TL-WR740N - 150 Mbps - Ver 4.23) but I couldn't install it: when I do Easy Setup Assistant, the network status test always fails because of absence of connectivity. I can see that there are some problems by the lights of the router: the WLAN light switches on, as the WAN light and the LAN light, instead of being flashed. I tried to do the installation without cd but, clicking on 192.168.1.1, I didn't find the page to access to web console but the Telecom page of the status of my connexion (nb: it reports that ethernet is unplugged).
I am supporting a small call center of all Win7 machines. There is no server in house as everything is web based. Anyway, we want to find the bandwidth hogs and programs that I am used to using require servers for monitoring web traffic.
Are there any devices or software that is not a fortune that can give details on bandwidth usage?
