Wireless Network Disappears Overnight?
Mar 24, 2012
I have a pretty old Linksys WRT160Nv3. I tried support from them but I was told my router is too old to receive free support. My router is connected to a comcast modem (Motorola).
Two days ago I tried to connect to the internet with my iPod and had no luck, the same went for my phone and my roommate's laptop. When I went on to the computer with with the router I was it was connected to Network 4 our local network and couldn't find any other networks. Our router came with 'Network Magic' so I opened that to see if our existing network showed up there, but only it's settings were there...it's like the computer tried to erase our network. I reset the router and re-made the network and this solved the problem for the day and most of yesterday.
Yesterday evening, I came home to the same problem. I did the same thing I ddi the first time, but instead of reseting the router before I did anything I skipped to re-installing it. I'm here because this happened again this morning, and before I go and set up the network again, I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong and what I should do. I even got a new anti-virus because I was afraid there might be a virus on the the computer making it act weird but I haven't been able to complete a full scan yet.

we've given up on the 4410n. we have two of them, one at the front of our office, one at the back (we have a floor in a highrise in san francisco). the one at the rear of the office - version one hardware, has never had any trouble. it just runs and runs and runs, has been up in the false ceiling for more than a year now. the one at the front of the office started giving us trouble within months of installation. not passing traffic. took it down from the false ceiling and kept it on my desk. staff got in the habit of just power cycling it when the first person showed up in the morning, since it always locked up overnight. RMA'ed it, got a version 2 hardware unit. seemed better initially - but it was faking it. same problems. going unresponsive overnight. gave up.
bought a $40 TrendNet AP. not a single problem in the month it's replaced the 4410N.
better quality hardware at less than 1/4th the price. wow. never buying a cisco WAP again.

I'm currently using a Lenovo V360 and my issue is that my computer, which connects via wi-fi, disconnects from the network randomly. The network will be completely removed from the list of available networks. The other networks available will still be visible. I tried turning off the wi-fi button on my laptop and turning it back on, but the list of available networks still does not include the network I was recently connected to. The only way to see the network on my Lenovo is to restart the computer. The connection works perfectly after I restart. It is definitely not the network's problem because I am still connected to the same network with my other laptop. If necessary, my laptop runs Windows 7, my router is a D-Link, and the encryption is WPA.

I've been having this issue where my wireless network completely disappears from my computer and it requires a restart to fix.I know for a fact that it is not my modem/ISP as my iPad still connects just fine to the network. My network disappears about after 10-20 minutes of being logged on.

win xp I work at a junior high school. A lot of the computers are part of a work group so they can share printers.
I'm having problems connecting to a printer. It has worked for a long time, it's still my default printer, but when I try to access it, it gives me a spooling error.
Now here's why I think it's a network problem.I can't access the main computer's network location (the one hooked up directly to the printer). All the other computers come up on the networkjust fine. And the one in question is only able to access very few computers in the network browser. let me simplify:
computer A/ brother printershared computer B/no longer sees A on network A/ sees only a small portion of other computers on network B/ sees all computers but A
Again, I don't think it's a spooler problem. It probably gives that error because it's a default printer with a lost connection.

I have an i7-2700K system with MSI Z68A-GD80 MB running on Window 7. Awesome system. Only one issue. The Network Adapter section keeps disappearing from Device Manager, causing my ethernet to fail, no lights on either of the RJ45 ports with cable plugged in. All of the latest drivers are installed. I've Googled it and see others with the same problem and have followed the "temporary" solution - shut down the system, unplug it from the power supply, yank the memory out, press the power button with PSU unplugged to "bleed" the caps (or use the pwr/reset button on the MB before shutting it down), let it sit for several minutes (it takes mine at least an hour, so I'm thinking the system needs to be completely cooled down) and then put it all back together and turn it on. Network Adapter section shows up again, Ethernet lights return, internet works again.
This works until the next time the system shuts down and then I have to do this all over again. Extremely annoying problem. I'm not sure if it's a faulty MB or if there's an actual permanent fix.

I have been successfully printing to my HP 8250 printer USB connected to my e4200 router for nearly a year from my xp ethernet pc and 2 windows 7 wireless laptops. Today nothing could print to it and when I deleted and tried to reinstall using cisco connect it tells me I am trying to connect an unsupported device both on ethernet XP PC and wireless windows 7 laptop. I have installed no new software or drivers this year. I have had to regress to attaching the printer back to the XP PC and sharing it which obviously means the PC now needs to be switched on to print.

I've got a machine on my home network running Windows Server 2012 (Based on Win8).The problem is, my taskbar disappears completely. When I minimize an application rather than minimize to the taskbar it simply closes the window as small as it can as if the taskbar never existed (see photos at bottom).
The problem first presented itself after I accessed the computer from outside my local network I'm using a Linksys router and mapping to the server IP, port 3389.After a restart the problem goes away, I will update when I have more information on how frequently or what may trigger.

I have a Windows XP SP3.I bought this machine used not too long ago, it came with a legit fresh install of XP and all the drivers. And it's been running in great shape until this. I'll retrace my steps as best I can.I was on the internet and my connection was still connected (Completely, not limited) but my browser wouldn't surf. I naturally restarted my router, nothing changed. So I restarted my computer. When it came back on the Wireless didn't boot up like it used to. I checked my internet, it was fine. My laptop was running fine on it.Now as I try to figure out whats wrong, my "Wireless Network Connection" is gone completely from my computer. AND the Wireless isn't on my device manager anymore?? I installed another USB wireless stick (which I used on my old desktop) and it's working ok but I feel like my connection used to be so much better which the ASUS wifi instead. I un-installed the driver, and re-installed. [code]

Every day or two my landlord's router just seems to disappear altogether . just seems to turn itself off randomly. Unplugging to reset results in good, clear signal for a while, but the problem always comes back. It affects all connected machines (not sure if it makes any difference if a macnine is connected via wire.)

Every day around the same time the SSID for my wireless network disappears. I'm using a Netgear wnr2000v3. Prior to this I was using a Linksys router, which did the same thing... only more frequently (2-3 times a day).Between smartphones and laptops, there are about 6 devices connected to the network. They all lose their connection and cannot find the broadcasted SSID when this happens.Because it happens around the same time each day, it makes me think that it has something to do with the DHCP lease, which is 24 hours. Just a thought, as I don't really know how that works.

I am having a setup problem with the RE1000. When I plug it in, my laptop is able to see it, and I'm able to access it and attempt to set it up. However, once I tell it how to connect to my main wireless router, and it attempts to log onto my wireless network, the RE1000 disappears from my list of networks. My blu-ray player also cannot see it.

The VPN tunnel stays connected, users are unable to get to any outside websites, i.e. Yahoo, google. We unplug the router and it comes back fine; until the next time.

I have an Asus Model U56E. Recently the wireless has been disappearing whenever I turn off my laptop. What I mean is that when I turn on my laptop, the wireless doesnt seem to exist. I go under device manager and all I have is the eternet and my bluetooth device. About 85% of the time, when I go under "action" and click on "scan for hardware changes" the my Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N1030 will show up along with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor and I'll get my wireless back. However, when my laptop turns off, the same thing happens.
In addition, my fn F2 button no longer seems to work. I'll press on it and majority of the time my light that signals that the wireless is working does not turn on. Most of the time it stays off whether or not I am connected to the wireless
This is what I already attempted to fix it, based on googling for answers:
1. Under the properties of my wireless and miniport adapter, I went under power management and unchecked the box that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2. I went to my laptop's power plan and changed all my wireless adapter settings "power saving mode" to maximum performance for both battery and cord
3. I went to the intel website, had it look at my laptop wireless system and followed their recommendation of installing an updated wireless software thing. All that happened was that it told me to disable my old wireless and then install it. However, even though I followed their instructions, it continued to repeat the same message. I had to perform a system restore to get my old wireless back
4. I disabled wireless console 3 (by Asus) under programs and it seemed to work. My laptop was getting connected whenever I turned it on. However, the next day my laptop updated itself (b/c of my system restore) and I am back to the same situation except my wireless console is still disabled.

My 'main' Wifi SSID will just disappear and you can't connect to it. the guest account will still show up. computers/devices that are already connected will stay connected and will work fine, but anybody reconnecting will not be able to. Only solution I've found so far is to unplug and replug in my router

I'm using an HP Elitebook 6930p with Windows XP and an HP EN488UT docking station. When I use the computer by itself the Network Connections shows "Local Area Connection 3 Connected Intel 83567LM Gigabit Network Connection" and I can connect to the internet. When I am in the docking station, I can also see this connection, as long as my notebok is open when I start up. However, if i start the computer with the lid closed (I just want to use the external monitor, not the notebook monitor) that network connection does not appear and I cannot connect to the intenet.

We are running a script that we tested on a network where the laptops were linked with a cable, but as soon as you switch over to wireless it disappears.

Having a strange problem that just started this week and got worse this evening. I have a RV220W that is feeding my network. The RV220W sits behind a broadband modem and acts as the DHCP for the network and those computers access the internet that way. Anyway, tonight started an issue where the the RV220W just disappears. Becomes unpingable. I recycle power, and within anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, it's gone. No longer pingable. Even if I plug a latop directly into it.If I power cycle the RV220W it comes back and I can ping it and access it and its settings. 5 to 10 mins later, I again lose it. Nothing was done. Its been working fine for a few weeks. Had a similar outage last Tuesday, but a recycle of everything brought everything back into line. After I lose connection to it, the lights I expect to be lit remain lit.

I have two Cisco 4506's running cat4500-ipbase-mz.122-50.SG3.bin. Periodically, when attaching a new workstation to these switches the Mac Address of the device disappears off the port when the device is connected or the port is configured. The only way to correct the issue is to do a hardware reset on the blade or reboot the switch. After resetting the blade or rebooting the switch the devices will start showing up on the port and connect. This does not effect devices that are already connected to the switch, just newly added devices
Both switches are populated with WS-X4148-RJ45, WS-X4148-RJ45V and WS-X4248-RJ45V blades. It doesn't matter which blade the new device is being connected to. I believe that this may be a "Bug" but have been unable to locate one.

I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption. My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Having an issue with a Cisco Linksys E1500 on a home network. The device has a feature to provide a guest wireless network but the guest network can't get to the internet. A wired connection is fine, as is the normal wireless network but not the guest. The cheesy thing is, that it doesn't list an option for what type of wireless security protocol you want on the guest network. I'm assuming that it uses the same security protocol that the normal wireless network uses, but who knowsEspecially weird is that it asks you what password you want on the guest network but then the guest network show to be insecure when you try to connectthought maybe it was something funky with some of my configurations so I went ahead and factory defaulted it and just set it up with an insecure network for both the normal and guest networks. This didn't solve it. The guest network still couldn't get to the internet. In fact, the guest network can't even ping the router.

A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.
I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:
'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'
I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.

I have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong. It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines. Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).
I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?

I can find and connect to the wireless network in our house, but it has the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. My housemates are on the internet fine on their laptops and my xbox live is working, so it's clearly an issue with my laptop. My laptop's internet evidently works with an ethernet cable too, but I can't just go through an ethernet cable all the time since the router is in a housemate's bedroom.
