Cabling / Cards :: Increasing Wifi Reception On Laptop Without Access To The Router?

Oct 15, 2011

I live in an apartment building that offers free wi-fi. The connection on my laptop is bad and extremely inconsistent. I was wondering how I could improve this. I was wondering if a usb wireless network adapter would improve my connection.

Increasing Wifi Reception Without Access To Router?

Oct 19, 2011

My apartment complex offers free wifi but it is always unreliable, sometimes it is slow and I can't load pages. Often it says my signal is good or excellent and I still have problems. I'm pretty sure its not just my laptop because when I am home where we have our own network and my connection is great there. I have looked around on the internet for solutions and have not really found anything. All solutions say to do something to the router and I do not have access to it. I saw these things called usb wireless network adapters. Would they be able to increase my wifi connection?

Asus X73e-bh51 / Improve The Wifi Reception On A Laptop?

Mar 30, 2012

How do I improve the Wi-Fi reception on a laptop? My visually impaired friend purchase a new laptop...an Asus X73E-BH51 17.3" Laptop with 2nd Gen Intel Core i5-2430M with Turbo Boost 2.0 8GB DDR3 640GB HDD. She is happy with the purchase. However, the wireless signal strength on her machine never seems to go higher than three bars, while on my laptop (a different make) sitting next to hers is up to five bars and working very quickly. I feel terrible having recommended this laptop based on research done by another friend the previous year. Is there a way to make her laptop receive the wireless signal at a higher strength? "This laptop should go like the wind with 8GB RAM and turbo boost, but, it loads slow as molasses. She is able to Skype with folks, but, often the video breaks up or is otherwise not clear.

Cabling / Cards :: Why Can't New Laptop Connect To The Internet

Aug 31, 2012

I just got a new laptop. Like, just yesterday, but for some odd reason it can't connect to the internet in the living roomMore Info:Laptop bought yesterday. Absolutely new. Samsung, A6 Vision, Windows 7. It can hold to 480GB I think or at least around and has 6GB Ram. I brought it home, made the default brower Google Chrome and connected it to the home internet and entered in the security key/password, so it's all connected. IN the living room, the connection is really good. All the other laptops there -even my really bad old one can connect fine to the internet. My new one says it's connected, but no internet. But since the other ones get internet, I don't think I need to restart the router -although I did so anyways and it didn't work

Cabling / Cards :: Wifi Connection Very Low And Then Lost?

Oct 15, 2012

Just had a new wifi usb adapter delivered today and tried to connect my desktop pc from my room to the bt home hub 2.0 in the kitchen. This is only 13meters max to walk and 10m if going through 2 or 3 walls. I installed the ralink drivers and plugged in the adapter which my computer then installed fine. It will pick up some networks including mine which i managed to connect to but only at a very low rate. Not after very long the connection will disappear and so will all the other houses networks. If i then pull it out and plug it in again they appear again for a short while?

I use my parents packard bell netbook in my room and it works fine. It could well be the case that this adapter was pretty cheap from amazon and you get what you pay for..

This and the two attachments contain your required info.
BT Broadband
BT Home Hub 2.0
DSL

Cabling / Cards :: Lan Connection Slow But Wifi Good?

Nov 28, 2012

I recently installed a new SSD and a fresh windows install. After reinstalling everything,I connected my LAN cable and had issues that it would constantly connect and disconnect.Even the lights on the back were flashing on and off.If it stayed on long enough it would establish a connection. I am using my motherboard build in lan adapter.I have a Asus P8P67 Pro, which has the Intel 82579, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller. I was able to establish a connection perfectly fine through my wlan stick.I went to the Asus website and downloaded their drivers for the Lan Controller. This did not fix anything.I attempted numerous install and deinstall of the drivers. At that point I went directly to the Intel website and downloaded their most recent drivers. After installing the Intel drivers, I was able to keep a connection, but it was very very slow.Through Lan connection i am barely able to open up Google, but every time I attempt a speed test, the connection is too slow. Though when I connect through Wlan,I get the full connection speeds. The router I am using is a Netgear DG834G v4. Also tested various cable just incase that might be the issue. Also, when i use the same cable and connect it to my Laptop, I get the full connection and no issues.

Cabling / Cards :: Will Getting A Larger Antenna Make Awus 1k Wifi Less Safe

Feb 19, 2011

I have the awus 1k awus036h wifi usb adaptor with the crappy stock 2db antenna. I was told by some randomer on a forum that getting a larger antenna doesn't increase the power output of the adaptor. IIRC this is directly against what I've read in the past but I forgot where so am unable to say one way or the other. I remember reading that the larger the antenna the more microwaves it radiates.Plus would it make it a health concern? Currently I have my adaptor in the other room maybe 2-3 metres from me separated by a plaster wall. enna I can if it is deemed safe or as much so as before pretty much since I have been using it for a while w/o probs. I was thinking of getting something in the range of 10db-14 db- maybe even going for an outdoor antenna but keeping it inside so long as it is affordable which they seem to be.

Cabling / Cards :: Losing Connection Using Intel Wifi Link 1000?

Jun 14, 2011

I have the same issue and have been surfing the web for the solution for quite some time. Brand new Sony VAIO laptop with blu-ray has an Intel WiFi bgn 1000 wireless network adapter. It worked fine for couple of days, until i brought it to work. We use wireless connection in our office. Maximum 7 computers are connected at a time. All other 6 laptops connect to our network with no problems (all of them are on win7x64). Now, back to the problem. Wireless works at home and at work in the evening , when no one in the office. I've removed all 3rd party software, uninstalled Intel software. Am using clean driver from the Intel website. Tried different revisions of the driver - issue is still there. I've contacted VAIO support. This is not known issue to them. They offered standard actions (unisntalling the driver, power management options, enabling VAIO Smart Network). No updates of fixes on their support website. I have also checked in the event viewer. There is only one service being enabled and disabled constantly (TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper) - which is happening at the same time with wireless drop. There are about 5-8 drops per minute. Computer browser service disabled. Firewall disabled, antivirus disabled. We assume this could be an interference with mobile diveces. While now, we have disabled all wireless cards on all computers, switched off mobile phones. And... AXAXAXAXA!!! BSOD 0x00000018 (0x000....00, 0xFFFFFA800754A750, 0x00...02, 0xFC01020EFC01020B).
