My Internet connection works completely fine when all I have is my laptop connected to the wifi, but when my desktop also connects to the internet, than my laptop's internet doesn't work at all until i shut the desktop down.
View 2 RepliesI Have a HP dc5000MT desktop. I run an ethernet cable from its network card {Broad NetXtreme Gigabit} to a Westell 327W router{this has worked for the last four years}. My laptop connects to the internet through this router using wireless and for test purposes through the ethernet port. I installed a new network card {Dynex DX-E102 PCI NetworkAdaptor}in the desktop. When i'm enabling either the old or new card through Control Panel, Network Connections, i get the message "acquirin network address,Firewalled".and it never enables. I ran Malwarebytes and no infections were found. I use AVG anti-virus and Internet Explorer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the following equipment/software: Acer Aspire One running Windows XP SP3, Artheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter, Realtek RTL8102E PCI NIC, Cisco Linksys E1000 Router.The Wireless Network Connection status says that I'm connected to my network with a full signal strength but I cannot get out to the internet and I cannot ping the router from that computer. I can, however, get to the internet via a wired connection to the router via the Realtek NIC. This has been the only computer that I've been unable to connect to my network and to the internet. It was connected to a different router before and connected easily but that router went bad so I replaced it with the E1000.Don't know if it's the wireless adapter that's bad or something else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought i would clever and make an extension from my Virgin Superhub via Ethernet to a second pc that is currently using Wireless to improve speed.The amazing thing is the ethernet cable I made up actually seems to work but only when my wireless connection is on. If I disable my wireless to use just the ethernet I get no connection showing!If I click on properties it shows I am connected at 100mbps but I presume this is just the connection between the Hub and the pc although my Internet connection dialog also shows 100mbps.In the Services dialog I can add services which I presume would give me access.I have my ip address but do not know the name of the service I should be running (DCHP?) or the Port numbers.In addition to this there doesn't seem to be a network card appearing in device manager other than the wireless dongle.

My router is therefore working correctly and my internet connection is fine.I presume this must be some kind of driver issue, but it states that my drivers are installed, up to date and working correctly

It is able to connect to the router fine and says it has a connection but is unable to access anything. And this is accessing the router either wirelessly or wired through an ethernet cable. I know that it is not the router because her roommates are able to access the internet fine and her computer is also unable to access the internet from other networks. Is it possible that the network card in her laptop has died and needs to be replaced? or could it be a corrupted driver? Would using a usb network adapter be a temporary fix? I have searched many forums trying to find an answer but have been unable to.Also a couple times when attempting to see if the wired connection worked I had plugged in the ethernet cable and was able to access google for 5 seconds and then it stopped working, and then unplugging and reconnecting would yield the same results

Checked hardware condition and the controller card says it is functioning properly. Running Network Properties shows only the wireless connections, with Local Area Port disconnected.

Have just acquired new used HP desktop running Windows Vista. System has a Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card installed, which gets me to the internet OK when using a LAN cable from wireless router. But I can't make wireless connection. Vista tells me that I need a wireless network adapter.Am I missing something? Is it possible to change some settings to get the Broadcom card to go wireless? If not, what sort of adapter is needed, and is such adapter external or will it have to be installed in the system box?

The only way I seem to be able to get connected to the internet now is to run a cable to my ethernet switch, and then onwards to my computer itself. Even when doing this the net seems to be very slow, won't connect through Chrome etc or just flat out won't connect.

Samsung, A6 Vision, Windows 7. It can hold to 480GB I think or at least around and has 6GB Ram. I brought it home, made the default brower Google Chrome and connected it to the home internet and entered in the security key/password, so it's all connected. IN the living room, the connection is really good. All the other laptops there -even my really bad old one can connect fine to the internet. My new one says it's connected, but no internet. But since the other ones get internet, I don't think I need to restart the router -although I did so anyways and it didn't work

However, one of the other big problems we have is connectivity of our ethernet cables. We have an IT room with 2 switches that feed ethernet cables to all parts of the house and connect to an ethernet box in the wall where we can simply wire in our internet connection. We have wireless routers too but to keep the bandwidth usage across the WAP's I want to let people use the wired connections. However, many of the connection in the house do not work at all. I plug in my laptop to the wall jack and it gives me the No Internet Access notice. I don't understand why it works in some rooms and not others. All jacks seem to go into the same switches at the other end so I cannot figure out what the problem could be.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are setting up a network in our new house. We have the internet entering the garage. From there we have a 60 ft Cat 5 cables run through the crawl space. Orginally we had the wireless router attached to the end of the cat 5 and then attached to the computer. We could not get a connection through this wire. We then took out the cable, and ran a new one, same issue. We took the same cable, cut it down to 25 feet, installed the router in the garage and we have an excellant connection. We then ran a new wire through the crawl space from the router. Same issue, no connectivity. Taking that cable out, cutting it down we ran the wires from the router to our computers in the garage. why a Cat5 cable would not work at 60Ft.?

I've done the Recovery Console and performed the Windows Registry repairs. I've even reformatted the computer, but to no avail at all. And I've done all the basic troubleshooting and surfed forums for way too long and found no solutions.
So this is kind of a last ditch effort. It still connects to the internet via an ethernet cord, so all is not completely lost, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a netbook without having wireless connectivity.
I built a computer a while ago, from a reasonably low budget. Ever since the very first boot up, the wireless card (TP-Link, unable to find model currently, will add later) only works on the second consecutive boot up. I have no idea why, I have not found anything relating to a problem like this, the computer doesn't even appear to know that there is a wireless card in it. Instead the icon shows a cable, suggesting that the computer isn't connecting with the card.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using an 802.11 b/g USB wireless network adapter card with my computer to use in conjunction with an AT&T 2Wire router,which is about 20 or 30 feet away off in another room.After about 10 minutes on average, the adapter will stop transferring data suddenly, and it will stay that way for a while. If I do nothing, then sometimes it will start up again after several more minutes, but instead of waiting, I usually will select "Repair" from the Wireless Network Connection pop-up menu, which also works to get it started again. The problem though, naturally, is that after another little while, like about 10 minutes again, it will short out all over again. Sometimes, very rarely, it will stay working for up to maybe an hour, and sometimes, it can short out yet again within a few seconds.

I am thinking i need to download the drivers to a disk drive and then transfer them. That is, it is still displayed as 'working properly' in the device management screen, but it is unable to connect to dns. System restore does not solve this problem. plugging the ethernet cable in and out (10 times) does not solve this problem. Modem reset does not solve this problem either. I decided that perhaps ethernet controller is faulty, or perhaps the ethernet port in itself- so I bought a 'usb to ethernet' adaptor and surprisingly the internet connection problem persisted (during the instances when my laptop ethernet port had problems connecting to DNS, the adaptor was also unable to connect to internet).
What does solve this problem is this: I have another notebook - I plug the ethernet cable into that computer. Obviously, internet works without any problems with my second notebook. After that, I plug the ethernet cable back into the laptop which is now unable to connect to DNS. Quite often the Not being able to connect to DNS issue still remains the first time I do this, so I have to connect ethernet cable back into my second notebook and then plug it back into the notebook with a connectivity problem. After I do this 2 or 3 times, my windows 7 laptop is finally able to connect to internet.
I live in an apartment building that offers free wi-fi. The connection on my laptop is bad and extremely inconsistent. I was wondering how I could improve this. I was wondering if a usb wireless network adapter would improve my connection.
