Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Printer IP Address Keeps Changing

Jul 4, 2011

Much of the time my wireless printer is offline relative to computers on my LAN because the IP Address has been changed to some value different than what the computer thinks it should be.  So I have to figure out what the IP Address is of the printer then modify the printer port on the PC to point to the correct address.  If this only happened rarely or if I could easily remember the steps I have to take to remedy the situation, I guess this would not be such a big deal.  But it happens a lot and I'm old and alzheimery.  So my question is: how do I get the router to assign the same IP Address to the printer all of the time?

Can't Share Printer In Homegroup

Mar 13, 2013

I have a clean install of Window 7 64 bit Home on PC my printer is installed on. (It was previously running XP Pro) Printer drivers have been updated. I want to share Printer with Notebook running Windows 8 64 bit Home. When I added PC to Homegroup it accepted files but the printer was not listed even though I checked to add printer. Printer shows up under Network and can be seen on Notebook but can't be opened. Was getting a 0x8007035 error and now just get "window couldn't connect to the printer, check name, turned on, correct address" can't figure it out, even added ip addresses to let firewall except even though. I can see and open all files, and folders on both machines from both Homegroup and Network.

Cannot Share Printer Asus DSL N13

Oct 11, 2011

I recently bought a Asus DSL N13 router and one of the points that made me purchase it was the ability to plug a printer in via USB and all users on the network could share this printer. I double checked that my printer (Cannon IP4300) was compatible and its on the list here [URL]. I've set up the router and this work fine, both my desktop (running windows 7 64 bit) and my laptop (running vista 32 bit) can access the router and connect to the internet fine, both via ethernet cable and over wireless connection.

However I've been banging my head against a wall with regards to sharing the printer. I can connect the printer to the router and in the router configuration there is a tab for the printer server and this see's my printer (Cannon IP4300). However when i try to add a new printer on either my desktop or laptop i cannot see the printer, whatever i try!

Can't Share Files Or Printer

Jan 3, 2013

We've got two computers in the Homegroup on our network -- call them computers A and B. Computer A (info below) is running Windows 7 Professional, Computer B is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer A has an ethernet cable to the router, Computer B is connecting via WiFi.

The problem is: Computer A can access files and the printer on Computer B, but Computer B cannot access Computer A. When I'm on B and attempt to add A's printer, I get a message that:

"file and print sharing device A is online but isn't responding to connection attempts"

In the HomeGroup window on A, all sharing options (pictures, documents, music, printers, videos) are checked.

Share A Printer With Workstation Not In Network

Mar 25, 2012

I have a hardwired network with 10 workstations plugged into switch. Printer plugged into switch. Server plugged into switch.Switch plugged into router.Router DHCPs except printer is static IP. All have access to internet through server then out through router.Have added another workstation that is not allowed access to the network (on purpose) but needs to be able to use the printer. The workstation is not under our security for virus control, etc so I don't want it in the server. But it needs access to internet and access to printer. Should I create a separate subnet from the router and keep the workstation separate there? If so, then how can I keep the printer accessible to both subnets?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Changing 4510-SUP-6E Redundant Mode To Share-Backplane Mode

Mar 12, 2013

I received the following info from Cisco's TAC and wanted to inquire further before I start reconfiguring the switch:

In a redundant Sup-6E setup, the following configuration is supported :

- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup

If you invoke shared backplane mode, the following configuration can also be supported:

- 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 TenGig uplink(blocking) on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup

Here's the command and information about the "shared-backplane" mode :- [URL]

Currently, we have 2  SUP 6-Es(Module 5 - Active and Module 6 - Stand-by) setup in a redundent mode. I am planning on changing the redundent mode to the shared backplane mode so I can use 2 TenGig converters to uplink 2 access-switches. We purchased 2 TenGig converters and here is how I am planning on using them:

1- One will be used  to uplink to two 3750 switches(stacked)
2- One will be used to uplink to a 2960 using a Gig SFP

My questions are:

1- Do I have to install the 2 TenGig converters(4-Gig Uplinks) in the same Module? Or can I use one one in module 5 and the second one in module 6?
2- Will changing the redundant mode to the shared backplane mode require rebooting the switch or disrupt the funtionality of the other linecards?

Canon MF8300 Printer - Unable To Locate Printer On Network

Mar 21, 2011

I have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer. Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.

I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer. All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.

D-Link DIR-655 :: WPS Registered Printer IP Is 0.0.0.0 / Mac Printer MIA

Dec 8, 2011

I used WPS on my DIR-655 Rev B1 FW 2.03NA to register a Brother HL-2270DW Wifi laser printer and my Mac can never wake it up to print. It always works fine from all my Windows machines. It appears as xxx.xxx.xxx.6 on my network. But the router only shows its IP as 0.0.0.0 on the STATUSWireless page and I can't find any way to change that. My assumption is that the Mac can't find it because of this, but I'm not an expert on WPS.Maybe I should take it out of WPS and just assign it a fixed IP using DHCP Reservation. Or is there another fix? I haven't ruled out the Brother OS X printer driver, but it and the printer's firmware are both up to date. Two odd things:

1. I can ping the printer from my PCs but the Mac can't find see in and it's not a Firewall issue.

2. I can see the brother printer in Finder's Shared devices: so it sees it but refuses to interact.

Changing From WEP To WPA Now No Internet

Apr 23, 2011

I tried changing the WEP to WPA because I recently found out our neighbors were stealing internet from us. However after doing all this changing around I used 192.168... And all that and was able to change the ssid and the passphrase but after doing so the Internet stopped working. We are able to connect but it says there's no service or limited connectivity so no web pages or anything loads. Now I can't get back to the router page by typing that 192.168. stuff because there's no Internet. Don't know what to do. This is my fathers ISP and it's not the greatest considering the location. I've tried unplugging the router and whatnot but that's not working either. I think we need to get back on the router page and fix something but it's not allowing us to since there's no Internet. Am I going to have to change back to a WEP.. I dont really want too. The router may need to be upgraded too because it's pretty ancient.

No Internet After Changing WAP To WAN

Feb 7, 2012

A router restart. I changed the wpa to wen so I could connect my ds to wifi.So far what I have done was restart the modem, it's a Cisco wag120n. This is a wireless so the moment I changed to wen, I lost connection. I then used a cable to connect to the modem and managed to change the settings in the router page 192.168.1.1 back to wpa but with no success connecting to the Internet. I then tried ressetting the modem and computer with no luck. I cut the power to the modem router and turned off computer for 5 minutes. I then turned the modem back til it was stable and then the computer, again with no luck. I then factory reset via the button manually and via the modem page but both ended up with the unable to connect to primary DNS server.

Changing From Wireless To Ethernet?

That's why i wanted to use ethernet on it. My problem is that there is only one port on my modem for Internet, and that is being used by a routher that goes upstairs.

As you can see, i have three TV ports and one PC port. All of it is being used. One of the TV ports goes trough the wall too a exit in my wall, and goes into my TV Router as seen on the image below.
