View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with my network, specifically printer and file sharing. I have 3 computers, (2 wired, 1 wireless) The network hasn't worked for quite a while. I just hooked up a new (wired) computer and it won't work on the network either. With the wireless computer, if I click on "view workgroup computers" I can see all the computers but cannot access them. With the 2 wired computers, I always get the message, "MSHOME is not accessible," etc. Funny thing is, the network used to work. I don't know what happened to it. I just formatted this new wired computer and loaded XP on it, used the network setup wizard, but keep getting the "not accessible" message. However, last month, I was working on my mom's computer and I put it on my network (hardwired). I had just formatted it and put XP on it and with that computer, I was able to access the laptop computer through the network.I have tried several times to create a new network by using the network setup wizard but it keeps saying that MSHOME is unavailable.I am using XP service pack 3 on all computers, Zone Alarm on 2 of the computers (the router and the new computer), and Windows Firewall on the other wired computer. I can access the Internet with all 3 computers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a share on our server for a few AD users and set those users up in a group I set that group to have the permissions to read/write this share. When one of those users tries to connect to the share from a PC, he is denied permissions, but when the same user connects to the share from a Mac, the file permissions work as they are set.I checked effective permissions for each user in the group, and they have the access they are supposed to. I've tried re-creating the share, recreating the group, and comparing the permissions to another share that is set up the same way (but working properly).

I want to share Printer with Notebook running Windows 8 64 bit Home. When I added PC to Homegroup it accepted files but the printer was not listed even though I checked to add printer. Printer shows up under Network and can be seen on Notebook but can't be opened. Was getting a 0x8007035 error and now just get "window couldn't connect to the printer, check name, turned on, correct address" can't figure it out, even added ip addresses to let firewall except even though. I can see and open all files, and folders on both machines from both Homegroup and Network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Asus DSL N13 router and one of the points that made me purchase it was the ability to plug a printer in via USB and all users on the network could share this printer. I double checked that my printer (Cannon IP4300) was compatible and its on the list here [URL]. I've set up the router and this work fine, both my desktop (running windows 7 64 bit) and my laptop (running vista 32 bit) can access the router and connect to the internet fine, both via ethernet cable and over wireless connection.
However I've been banging my head against a wall with regards to sharing the printer. I can connect the printer to the router and in the router configuration there is a tab for the printer server and this see's my printer (Cannon IP4300). However when i try to add a new printer on either my desktop or laptop i cannot see the printer, whatever i try!
I currently have two networks, Network A and Network B.Network A has a default gateway of 10.1.10.1 with two computers on it. Also on network B i have two computers and two printers. One printer is connected directly to the 192.168.1.1 router and the other printer is connected to one of the computers via usb.

We've got two computers in the Homegroup on our network -- call them computers A and B. Computer A (info below) is running Windows 7 Professional, Computer B is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer A has an ethernet cable to the router, Computer B is connecting via WiFi.
The problem is: Computer A can access files and the printer on Computer B, but Computer B cannot access Computer A. When I'm on B and attempt to add A's printer, I get a message that:
"file and print sharing device A is online but isn't responding to connection attempts"
In the HomeGroup window on A, all sharing options (pictures, documents, music, printers, videos) are checked.

The workstation is not under our security for virus control, etc so I don't want it in the server. But it needs access to internet and access to printer. Should I create a separate subnet from the router and keep the workstation separate there? If so, then how can I keep the printer accessible to both subnets?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHow to share a specific folder via LAN and enable permissions.More specifically, I'd like to share this laptop (Win 7 OS) with my Android PMP and Linux laptop (Mint OS) and grant it "full control" (read and write permissions) without granting "Everyone" control and without adding separate users with pw onto this laptop.(scroll to end of the post to skip details)Let's say the folder that I want to share is called "Bouncy." I right-clicked on "Bouncy", clicked on "Preferences", then enabled " Share.."to "Network Path: \MYCPUNAMEBouncy" and allowed Guest and Homegroup read/write privileges. From my Linux, I "Connected to Server" but couldn't connect.Under "Advanced Sharing" in Windows 7, I clicked "Share this folder" and created a profile under "Share name" => "Share name: Bouncy".I can connect from the Linux, but can't write to the Win 7 folder.
In "Advanced Sharing", under "Permissions for Bouncy", the "Group: Everyone" only has Read permissions. I clicked on "Add" and "Selected the object type: Users, Groups, or Built-in security principles" "From this location: MYCPUNAME". Under "Enter the object names to select" I wasn't quite sure what to write, so I clicked on "Advanced". The search results from "Find names" with these settings yield a ton of names that I'll omit. I first clicked on "MYNAME" in "My Folder": "MYCPUNAME". No access from Linux.I then changed the permissions to "Network", allowed full control permissions and now was able add files from my Linux. Which is good. How do I make it so that only a few specific IP addresses or Users (PMP and Linux laptop) have full control? How do I make it so that a password is required to access from LAN with full control?
