Set Permission For Just One Remote User To Share A Folder

Apr 19, 2011

I want to share the My Documents folder from an XP machine with ONLY one user (the administrator) on a networked Win 7 machine. I have turned off simple sharing on the XP machine. I hate XP!! So complicated to do anything. Anyway, under security, I have tried share this folder, and not to share folder. I have gone into Advanced and messed around with permissions, taking out Everyone, using Admin only, using Network. At one point I ended up not being able to access My Documents on the local computer and had to jump through many hoops to change ownership and disable read only so that the user could use her own files!The problem is, under Advanced in the permissions area, I cannot see the users on the remote pc to choose which one should be allowed access. how to actually find a particular user on the Win 7 pc and give ONLY that user permission to read (not to change) the files in My Documents on the XP pc.

Sharing :: Access Denied You Do Not Have Permission Contact Your Administrator

Apr 14, 2013

All I want to do is to share a couple of Folders, My Documents and Downloads, between two PC's on a Workgroup network.Networking is not my strongest point but up until now I have managed quite successfully.The setup is :-

1st PC is Mike-Laptoppc is on a Wireless connection to an ADSL+2 router/modem.

2nd PC is a Desktop Alexs-PC connected via cable to the same router/modem

I can share all the shared folders from the Desktop to the Laptop, but I can only share Media streaming on the Desktop from the Laptop, so I know there is a connection between the two computers. I have now turned off Media streaming to concentrate on just folder sharing.Whenever I try to access the Laptop from the Desktop I get an " Access Denied you do not have permission contact your administrator " box on the desktop.

Sharing :: Can't Share Files / Printers

Jan 24, 2012

I am having trouble with my network, specifically printer and file sharing. I have 3 computers, (2 wired, 1 wireless) The network hasn't worked for quite a while. I just hooked up a new (wired) computer and it won't work on the network either. With the wireless computer, if I click on "view workgroup computers" I can see all the computers but cannot access them. With the 2 wired computers, I always get the message, "MSHOME is not accessible," etc. Funny thing is, the network used to work. I don't know what happened to it. I just formatted this new wired computer and loaded XP on it, used the network setup wizard, but keep getting the "not accessible" message. However, last month, I was working on my mom's computer and I put it on my network (hardwired). I had just formatted it and put XP on it and with that computer, I was able to access the laptop computer through the network.I have tried several times to create a new network by using the network setup wizard but it keeps saying that MSHOME is unavailable.I am using XP service pack 3 on all computers, Zone Alarm on 2 of the computers (the router and the new computer), and Windows Firewall on the other wired computer. I can access the Internet with all 3 computers.

Sharing :: File Share Accessible From Mac But Not PC?

Jan 20, 2012

I created a share on our server for a few AD users and set those users up in a group I set that group to have the permissions to read/write this share. When one of those users tries to connect to the share from a PC, he is denied permissions, but when the same user connects to the share from a Mac, the file permissions work as they are set.I checked effective permissions for each user in the group, and they have the access they are supposed to. I've tried re-creating the share, recreating the group, and comparing the permissions to another share that is set up the same way (but working properly).

Sharing :: How To Share Specific Folder Via LAN And Enable Permissions

Jun 3, 2012

How to share a specific folder via LAN and enable permissions.More specifically, I'd like to share this laptop (Win 7 OS) with my Android PMP and Linux laptop (Mint OS) and grant it "full control" (read and write permissions) without granting "Everyone" control and without adding separate users with pw onto this laptop.(scroll to end of the post to skip details)Let's say the folder that I want to share is called "Bouncy." I right-clicked on "Bouncy", clicked on "Preferences", then enabled " Share.."to "Network Path: \MYCPUNAMEBouncy" and allowed Guest and Homegroup read/write privileges. From my Linux, I "Connected to Server" but couldn't connect.Under "Advanced Sharing" in Windows 7, I clicked "Share this folder" and created a profile under "Share name" => "Share name: Bouncy".I can connect from the Linux, but can't write to the Win 7 folder.

In "Advanced Sharing", under "Permissions for Bouncy", the "Group: Everyone" only has Read permissions. I clicked on "Add" and "Selected the object type: Users, Groups, or Built-in security principles" "From this location: MYCPUNAME". Under "Enter the object names to select" I wasn't quite sure what to write, so I clicked on "Advanced". The search results from "Find names" with these settings yield a ton of names that I'll omit. I first clicked on "MYNAME" in "My Folder": "MYCPUNAME". No access from Linux.I then changed the permissions to "Network", allowed full control permissions and now was able add files from my Linux. Which is good.How do I make it so that only a few specific IP addresses or Users (PMP and Linux laptop) have full control? How do I make it so that a password is required to access from LAN with full control?

Sharing :: Unable To File / Print Share Between Windows And Linux?

Oct 21, 2011

I have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.

After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing.The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing.The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules,can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.

The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice.It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules.That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!

Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....

Sharing :: Network User Drive Showing (all Users) Personal File Share?

Jan 2, 2012

Having problem locating why when a user logs on to their profile, their personal network drive shows everyones personal drive file and they have acces to all files.This is a major security concern as uppper management files are then accessable.It is random, may not always be displayed, or always occur on the same user.The User drive normally displays.

joed on \serverusers$ (H:)

When this takes place the users name is replaced with just Users Users on \serverusers$ (H:) (This can sometimes change to Z drive)
This then exposes all user drives.This does not run from a script but is used in AD under the profile drive letter. Have tried to:Rebuild profile in Active Directory. (New Profile)Re Build user profile on workstation>Rebuild Operating system on Workstation.Change drive on the user profile in AD letter H to Z.Have also tried on a different workstation.

Cisco WAN :: ASR1001 / Use Bandwidth Of VAI In QoS Parent Policy?

Jan 3, 2013

I've done a similar solution before where I put bandwidth inherit on the Dialer interface of the CPE and it inherited the ATM interface speed (the upload sync rate) and prevented the CPE from maxing out and hitting hardware queuing in the DSLAM.  I can't seem to find a way to do this downstream from our ASR1K to the customer though.

Platform is ASR1001 with IOS 3.7.2 or 15.2(4)S

Problem description:We have many xDSL users (ADSL2+ and VDSL2).  They all sync at different speeds depending on how far they are from the DSLAM.

Example:

Customer A might be connected at 40000kbps/10000kbps (VDSL2)
Customer B might be connected at 5000kbps/600kbps (ADSL)

When they connect and the PPPoE session comes up, the bandwidth on the Virtual Access Interface is equal to the customer's downstream sync rate, so Customer A's virtual access interface, Virtual-Access 2.13 will say 40000kbps, and Customer B's virtual access interface Virtual-Access 2.39 will say 5000kbps.Using RADIUS, we apply a sub-qos-policy-out to the PPPoE session.I want to shape the customer to 80% of their sync rate so that we do not hit interface congestion in the DSL network which makes VoIP perform poorly.I cannot use an absolute value for the shape, because the sync rate varies for each customer.The problem I have is at present the policy-map is using the interface bandwidth of Gi0/0/1 (1Gbit) instead of the bandwidth of the Virtual Access Interface.  Therefore the customer is being limited to 800Mbit which means the QoS policy will never take effect.

RADIUS Config Below:

cisco-avpair += ip:sub-qos-policy-out=QOS-POLICY-OUT-PARENT-DSL
 Class Maps
 class-map match-any QOS-CLASS-VOIP-RTP-DSL
match protocol rtp audio
match access-group name QOS-VOIP-RTP
class-map match-any QOS-CLASS-VIDEO-RTP-DSL

[code].....

Cisco Wireless :: 1524 / Mesh Topology Parent Child Optimization?

Feb 6, 2010

Release 6 controller 9 Mesh APs. 1524 (2x 5G radios, 1x 2.4G)  and 1522 (1x 5G radios, 1x 2.4G) Designed for 3 linear hops and then a split to the rest.

AP1 = Root AP
linear to
AP2
Linear to
AP3
Linear to
AP4
equidistant to
AP5 and AP6

The rest are further away from AP4, but have visibility back to AP 4 The issue is after an event (say a power outage) at AP4.AP5 uses AP3 as it's parent.That's okay during the power failure, but when AP4 comes back up, I want to force AP5 to switch it's parent to AP4.You may ask why, if AP5 can reach AP3 okay, it's okay to leave it that way.

test   --------packet loss %-----
speed  AP3toAP5 AP3toAP4  AP5-AP4
=====  =======  =======   =======
54M     100        0         0
48M     100        0         0
36M      52.6      0         0
24M       1.44     0         0
18M       0.89     0         0

So you can see it's desireable now that AP5 uses AP4 as it's parent.Over time, the system might figure it out, but our limited experience shows it seems to stick to the way it is.To complicate matters, sometimes we've found that it doesn't seem to reconfigure when the channel number has changed so AP5 can reach AP3, but AP4 (1524) comes up with a different channel on it's downlink radio.So, how can we force a mesh topology reevaluation/change for either 1 AP or the whole bridge group?I thought changing the bridge speed from "auto" to 54M (on AP3 above, for example) might force the attached children to rethink it, but it didn't seem to work (maybe I needed to wait an hour?).I also thought tweaks to "Radio Performance Profile" for radio might work. (not sure what to change, or how long to wait for a result)reseting APs and hoping they come back in a better topology is painful and slow.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 2000 Interaction With Parent 5000 - Distance Parameter?

Oct 15, 2012

I am designing a network for my client where I have to implement a 10 Gig end to end connectivity. The major factor of concern from my management is about scalability (space to include more 10Gig servers as the nodes grow up). I have suggested Cisco 5596UP with 2232 PP as this gives ample amount of 10Gig ports. The setup has to be implemented across 2 different datacenters located 40 Kms apart, connected with 10Gig DC Interconnect.

I understand that Cisco Nexus 2232 is a Layer 2 Only switch and would need to communicate with parent 5K switch very frequently. Is it necessary to have the 2K and 5K pair in the same datacenter or in proximity? Is it possible to have the SFP uplinks connected to the DC interconnect? Because we have two datacenters located 40 Kms apart and having 1*Layer 3 - 5K switch at DC A with Layer 2 - 2K nexus Switch at DC B will be cost effective. We do require more 10Gig ports and not much requirement on Layer 3 usage. What are the type of communication that would be much frequent between 2K and 5K?
