EA4500 Is there any way to enable parent controls on everyone who logs in over guest access? We have a lot of youth who use the network, but we only give them guest access so that they can't access network machines. I enabled Parent Control, but I couldn't find a way to say "Parent Control enable for Guest Account".

This way the kids pc will allow them to do homework without the ablity to screw around on youtube or groveshark. My WRT54G aloowed me to do this, why can't a newer product do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys EA4500 Router. Both my kids have laptops.  I've tried using the Parental Controls to restrict access to certain websites and also to put in timeframes that they're computers can't access the Internet. However, it does not work at all! I've tried turning off their computers and then resetting the router after I made the changes, but the access restrictions do not work. We also have their Xbox set up on the router -- so maybe some of the settings we have for the Xbox are messing up Parental Controls?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy EA4500 has the newest firmware and is properly configured to support 20+ wireless and wired devices. It does this job well.Guest Access, however, is a problem. It works for about a day, then stops.Guests can access the login screen and enter the password. Then nothing happens. The screen appears to "load", but it does not connect.I have tried returning to default settings and reconfiguring and reupdating firmware. I have tried turning Guest Access on and off, as well as resetting the password.The only that works is rebooting the router. This is obviously not practical, especially for a contract client.

I tried rebooting the router but the problem persists. I have two laptops and two iPod Touches that can connect regardless of the access restrictions.

My only question is it shows two wireless connections available: The secured one I set up and the another network with the same name that says "guest" and is NOT secured. View 2 Replies View RelatedJust installed a refurb EA4500 this past weekend after testing it for a week.  The regular wireless network is very stable, but not much faster than my single-band DLink  DIR655.  Guest network seems to drop out from two connected iPhones, and when the connection drops, you have to re-login and type in the guest password everytime.  The linksys firmware is up-to-date( Linksys smart wifi)and so are the iOS on the 2 iPhones.  Just to add, on my old DLink, the guest network comes up secured also, so when you type in the passcode, it remembers it next it comes in range unlike the Cisco, which requires login at a web interface.

In bridge mode the EA4500 doesn't seem to offer a separate guest network. Is there any solution other than adding another Wireless router just to serve up the Wireless Guest Network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have successfully set up a guest network on my EA4500. Guest laptop associates with guest SSID just fine. Then via IE, it gets prompted for the guest password, which is entered and accepted just fine. At this point guest laptop is on the network.

BUT... at some point the guest laptop will need to reauthenticate (I don't know what the timeout is, but maybe one or two days?). Anyway, it's at this point that IE presents the guest network login page. But now after typing in the password, "enter" or clicking on the button does nothing. It looks like the guest web page doesn't get loaded properly or completely, so the reauthentication can't complete, therefore can't get to the internet. So, while in this state, I've also tried Firefox and Chrome, and same thing, no action when trying to submit the guest password. Tried rebooting guest laptop, and still same problem. Only thing I've found so far that works is to reboot the router. So I'm guessing there's a problem with the guest/web server on the router?? It's a real pain to have to reboot the router every day or two, when I've had other Linksys routers run for months without having to touch them.

I was running CCC 2.1.38 when I first noticed the problem. Since then I've downgraded to Classic 2.0.37, but it seems I still have the same problem. Again, I can connect & authenticate just fine initially, but when reprompted after some period of time, it doesn't work.

I've tried contacting Cisco support, but it looks like I'm at 91 days since purchase and thus outside of my 90-day complimentary support, so they happily provided me with the premium support options just to have the honor of talking with them. Guess I shouldn't have spent so much time trying to figure this out myself.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have configured my e4200 to block traffic at certian times uses both the Parental Controls and the Intenet Access Polices. Neither one seems to work though. [code] I have the same MAC addresses specified in each rule. Initally I had only the first two rules. Those didn't work, so I added rule 3 and 4 (they do the same thing as rules 1 and 2 but from the opposite direction). There are no compliaints, but they don't stop any traffic.Â

I started with the Parental Controls, they didn't work either. The page in there that lets you pick which machines you want to block seemed next to worthless. I have about four rows listed as "Network Device." REALLY LAME! As the MAC addresses are accesible and these weren't working I went to the IAP.Â
I recently purchased an EA4500 Cisco Wireless Router. I installed the software from the setup CD, however I cannot access the internet. All my devices (Iphone, etc) can access the router but the router cannot access the internet. Mac OS X 10.6.8

ISP uses PPPoE, Im sure that the username and password are correct. upgraded to the latest firmware manually, and holy hell accessing the router with no internet access.
I have an E4200 v2 I would like to set parntal controls on school nights only. Currently if I select parental controls for specific times I must set times for both school nights and weekends. I would like to be able to type in times that are not available in the dropdown lists. Currently I am limited to the drop down list. Is this a change that can be made in the near future.Â

Problem is that the device is listed under the same icon as a device I don't want restricted. If I click on the icon it lists one MAC as wireless 1 and the other as wireless 2 but still as one device name. One is an Xbox (the one I want restricted) and the other is a PC on Windows 7. I can only set up parental controls by icons/device names, not MACs and MAC filtering is a pain as I have to add and remove it everyday at a certain time.

I thought that the problem could be with Comcast, but I tested my Mac with a cable directly connected into the cable modem and it worked fine. I was able to access every site.

It could be a problem with browser security, but I even tested with different computers (Mac, PC's, Ipad, Smartphones) and none of them were able to access the [URL] wirelessly.

It seems something strange with the router. I tested some forum solutions (MUT, QoS) but they didn't work.
I upgraded from a E2000 to a EA4500 today and I am experiencing slow wired WAN speeds. On my E2000 I get approximately 60Mbps down and approximately 2Mbps up, and when switching over to the EA4500, I can only manage about 20Mbps down and about 2Mbps up. I can switch back and forth between routers and replicate the results every time
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 500 GB HD connected to the router to the usb port and It bothers me that whenever electricity fails in our city and it comes back I can still navigate and access my files on the LAN from the hard drive, but I lose the connection to the router management either by my smart phone application or by accesing trought my laptop. The only way I have figured out to solve this is connecting the drive directly to my laptop and erasing the configuration files created by the router when you set the shared folders, etc. then plugging again and setting all shared folders etc.

Just got my Linksys EA4500 router today.The only confusing thing, not not well explained by Linksys . Is the USB storage set up.One thing (very important) Linksys has failed to explain how to gain access to the USB storage once connected to the router. Once the USB storage drive it set up. Or at least I think it's set up. Nothing shows up on my network page. So how am I to get access to the drive? View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been researching this for a day now and have just confused myself further. Â Long story short, I just picked up an EA4500 and there's still a dead area in the house. Â I already have one ethernet cable that's being used which runs from the one side of the house to the other. Â After researching this, I believe I can set up the E1500 as an Access Point to further the range of the wireless signal via the ethernet cable and 2 routers. Â I just have a few additional questions that the articles and walkthroughs I've read through didn't seem to address.

I set up the EA4500 and have 2 SSID's, one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz band. Â When I set the SSID on the E1500, should I use the 2.4Ghz SSID from the EA4500 or should I reset the EA4500 to factory defaults and only use the 1 SSID instead of splitting them? Â Or, should I use a totally different SSID altogether on the E1500?I think from what I read, you should use different channels for each router; does it matter which ones you use as there's not that much traffic in my area and do I need to change the channel on both bands of the EA4500? Â Or can these all be left to Auto?Can you still use the ethernet ports on the AP/E1500 or are they rendered useless if you set it up in this mode?
Have just changed my E4200 to EA4500 but can my computer has not IE access. Both router has same settings and the mac adr are both in the modem at the local cabel firm.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe guest network on the router keeps going down. It can be seen but it cannot be connected to. Sometimes it works for a day or 2 and then it doesn't. I have to constantly babysit the network and it is entirely frustrating because the only fix is to reboot the router.I have tried factory resetting several times.I have tried re-flashing the fw.I'm using the non-CCC fw because CCC had way, way too many issues.These routers have been out for months and many people have been having issues and somehow Cisco doesn't see fit to work on firmware that stabilizes them at all? It's like, they release a router and then forget about it - the next batch comes along, often the same guts with a different shell and it's the same thing over again. I had a WRT610N and I said I'd never buy another Cisco after that but I broke my rule because of being lured by these "App enabled" features, which mind you have nothing at all over the competition since the CCC doesn't even work for most people.

Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account. Â Gave guest account its own password. Â Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password. Â (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E3200 and restarted things from the CD setup. Â Created main account, main account password, and guest password again. Â In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal. Â Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).

But reading through the forums today, I've found that IPv6 being enabled might be the cause of my issue. So I'm currently sitting at work and connected to my router remotely, but for the life of me, can't see where to disable this option. Using the Smart Wi-Fi interface, closest I can get is "Connectivity, Internet Settings, IPv6 but everything is grayed out and no option to edit this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to the forum and Linksys products. i have always been a Netgear fan.  What brings me to Linksys is the Smart WIFI parental controls. My children have iPod touch and Kindle Fire. I want to "manage" the content (Youtube, internet, etc..) on these devices. I want to be able to control when they have access to the WIFI and when they don't.  Another words, I want to go the router web interface and find the device and turn OFF the connection without affecting the rest of the house.Â
