I have an EA4500 wireless router. Would like to allow guest access to the internet without requiring a password. Is this possible, and if so, how? I know how to set the guest password, but it won't let me set it to be blank.
View 5 RepliesMy EA4500 has the newest firmware and is properly configured to support 20+ wireless and wired devices. It does this job well.Guest Access, however, is a problem. It works for about a day, then stops.Guests can access the login screen and enter the password. Then nothing happens. The screen appears to "load", but it does not connect.I have tried returning to default settings and reconfiguring and reupdating firmware. I have tried turning Guest Access on and off, as well as resetting the password.The only that works is rebooting the router. This is obviously not practical, especially for a contract client.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust installed a refurb EA4500 this past weekend after testing it for a week.  The regular wireless network is very stable, but not much faster than my single-band DLink  DIR655.  Guest network seems to drop out from two connected iPhones, and when the connection drops, you have to re-login and type in the guest password everytime.  The linksys firmware is up-to-date( Linksys smart wifi)and so are the iOS on the 2 iPhones.  Just to add, on my old DLink, the guest network comes up secured also, so when you type in the passcode, it remembers it next it comes in range unlike the Cisco, which requires login at a web interface.

In bridge mode the EA4500 doesn't seem to offer a separate guest network. Is there any solution other than adding another Wireless router just to serve up the Wireless Guest Network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have successfully set up a guest network on my EA4500. Guest laptop associates with guest SSID just fine. Then via IE, it gets prompted for the guest password, which is entered and accepted just fine. At this point guest laptop is on the network.

BUT... at some point the guest laptop will need to reauthenticate (I don't know what the timeout is, but maybe one or two days?). Anyway, it's at this point that IE presents the guest network login page. But now after typing in the password, "enter" or clicking on the button does nothing. It looks like the guest web page doesn't get loaded properly or completely, so the reauthentication can't complete, therefore can't get to the internet. So, while in this state, I've also tried Firefox and Chrome, and same thing, no action when trying to submit the guest password. Tried rebooting guest laptop, and still same problem. Only thing I've found so far that works is to reboot the router. So I'm guessing there's a problem with the guest/web server on the router?? It's a real pain to have to reboot the router every day or two, when I've had other Linksys routers run for months without having to touch them.

I was running CCC 2.1.38 when I first noticed the problem. Since then I've downgraded to Classic 2.0.37, but it seems I still have the same problem. Again, I can connect & authenticate just fine initially, but when reprompted after some period of time, it doesn't work.

I've tried contacting Cisco support, but it looks like I'm at 91 days since purchase and thus outside of my 90-day complimentary support, so they happily provided me with the premium support options just to have the honor of talking with them. Guess I shouldn't have spent so much time trying to figure this out myself.

ISP uses PPPoE, Im sure that the username and password are correct. upgraded to the latest firmware manually, and holy hell accessing the router with no internet access.

I thought that the problem could be with Comcast, but I tested my Mac with a cable directly connected into the cable modem and it worked fine. I was able to access every site.

I upgraded from a E2000 to a EA4500 today and I am experiencing slow wired WAN speeds. On my E2000 I get approximately 60Mbps down and approximately 2Mbps up, and when switching over to the EA4500, I can only manage about 20Mbps down and about 2Mbps up. I can switch back and forth between routers and replicate the results every time
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 500 GB HD connected to the router to the usb port and It bothers me that whenever electricity fails in our city and it comes back I can still navigate and access my files on the LAN from the hard drive, but I lose the connection to the router management either by my smart phone application or by accesing trought my laptop. The only way I have figured out to solve this is connecting the drive directly to my laptop and erasing the configuration files created by the router when you set the shared folders, etc. then plugging again and setting all shared folders etc.

Â I already have one ethernet cable that's being used which runs from the one side of the house to the other. Â After researching this, I believe I can set up the E1500 as an Access Point to further the range of the wireless signal via the ethernet cable and 2 routers. I set up the EA4500 and have 2 SSID's, one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz band. Â When I set the SSID on the E1500, should I use the 2.4Ghz SSID from the EA4500 or should I reset the EA4500 to factory defaults and only use the 1 SSID instead of splitting them? Â Or, should I use a totally different SSID altogether on the E1500?I think from what I read, you should use different channels for each router; does it matter which ones you use as there's not that much traffic in my area and do I need to change the channel on both bands of the EA4500? Â Or can these all be left to Auto?Can you still use the ethernet ports on the AP/E1500 or are they rendered useless if you set it up in this mode?
Have just changed my E4200 to EA4500 but can my computer has not IE access. Both router has same settings and the mac adr are both in the modem at the local cabel firm.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe guest network on the router keeps going down. It can be seen but it cannot be connected to. Sometimes it works for a day or 2 and then it doesn't. I have to constantly babysit the network and it is entirely frustrating because the only fix is to reboot the router.I have tried factory resetting several times.I have tried re-flashing the fw.I'm using the non-CCC fw because CCC had way, way too many issues.These routers have been out for months and many people have been having issues and somehow Cisco doesn't see fit to work on firmware that stabilizes them at all? It's like, they release a router and then forget about it - the next batch comes along, often the same guts with a different shell and it's the same thing over again. I had a WRT610N and I said I'd never buy another Cisco after that but I broke my rule because of being lured by these "App enabled" features, which mind you have nothing at all over the competition since the CCC doesn't even work for most people.

Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account. Â Gave guest account its own password. Â Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password. Â (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E3200 and restarted things from the CD setup. Â Created main account, main account password, and guest password again. Â In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal. Â Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).

But, no matter how many times I try, I cannot enter its IP address in the address bar and see its settings. I change its IP to192 168 1 200. Subset 255... DG 192 168 1 1 DNS same.Under router address 192 168 0 1I CANNOT access this router at 192 168 0 1 at all. The thing is, the **bleep** settings are not any different the. How they were when it was WORKING. I literally took a screenshot of my setting in case a scenario like this would come up, yet it more problems arise. I want to disable the guest access connection on E1000 wireless router but this option is not in the firmware menu. So, now I read that I need to use Cisco Connect on the CD to change this feature. When I run the Cisco Connect software, it says it can't configure the router (probably because I already have it configured). Why doesn't the Cisco Connect software simply take me to the settings where I can change the guest access feature? Why does it try to re-configure the router? Whoever designed this at Cisco was probably smokin some medical MJ because it doesn't make any sense that I have to go through so many hoops to do something so simple.
