How can i share application so that other users can directly use application in network without installing in his/her system. I have ubuntu server 12.0.1 installed and users are using windows 7. I will install any other os as server if necessary.
View 5 RepliesHaving problem locating why when a user logs on to their profile, their personal network drive shows everyones personal drive file and they have acces to all files.This is a major security concern as uppper management files are then accessable.It is random, may not always be displayed, or always occur on the same user.The User drive normally displays.

This then exposes all user drives.This does not run from a script but is used in AD under the profile drive letter. Have tried to:Rebuild profile in Active Directory. (New Profile)Re Build user profile on workstation>Rebuild Operating system on Workstation.Change drive on the user profile in AD letter H to Z.Have also tried on a different workstation.
I am using Compaq Presario CQ41. OS Windows 7. I am connected to other PCs via LAN. My computer name is "Compaq" and the ones that I connected to are named "NEXT" and "TESTING". I am able to access data to "NEXT", "TESTING" and vice versa which means that the LAN is working. I want to share a certain file to "NEXT" but I want that file not to be shared by "TESTING".

View 7 Replies View RelatedI thought that there are more security issues than LAN issues, I have a network with 11 computers of which 1 is SME server and 10 are clients (mainly 256MB DDR1 tech machines withceleron D processors, onboard VGA and sound; there are few 1024MB DDR2, AMD Sempron LE processors). All clients have XPSP3, .NET framework 1.1+2.0, Office 2003, AvastFree 7.0, Mozilla Firefox 7.0 and several utilities not very important. Every client has 2 users (Admin and User) on Local Machine and 1 on DOMAIN (UserDomain). Both User accounts are limited. First, all computers were in same workgroup and not part of DOMAIN. In that time, printers on clients were shared among themselves and worked flawlessly. After joining the clients to the DOMAIN, the work continued without issues. One day, I have changed the name of the SME SERVER computer and the issues have started. Several clients can not connect to those shared printers, even others are using them well. When I want to add shared printer I can not browse the particular computer on which the shared printer is (through ADD PRINTER wizard). I manage to do it writing the full path of the particular computer and there I can choose the printer.
After selecting it, username and password is required to finish the adding. Of course I use the Admin username ad password, and after typing it error message pop up (printer is unavailable or can not connect to it). After this I close all windows, start the adding procedure again, and then I can add the printer normally. The problem continues, because, on those computers on which I have had this complicated way of install, after several days shared printers refuse to print saying Access denied. Then I have to delete the printer again, install it twice and hope to work after that for a weak at least.
The problem is getting bigger, as on one client computer I can not print from browsers (Firefox 7, IE 8) but from Office there is no problem. Of course I have checked other topics about this and use setups-modifications-advices but they did not solve printing problems. I have even reinstalled that computer, but the problem remains.
I have a friend with a mac laptop that I need to transfer roughly ~110 GB from. I have a laptop that dual boots Windows 7 and Kubuntu 12.10. Easiest way to directly transfer these files between our computersNeither of us has a large enough external hard drive.

Initially the configuration was to link two app servers directly to ACE4710 without connecting to a Switch, but later, it was advised that ACE4710 is not able to work without connecting to a switch.
1. ACE4710 is not able to link directly to APP/WEB server, but it must go through a network Switch.
2. If item-1 above is true. We used to have a older Cisco Loadbalancer which is able to link directly to WEB/APP servers. What is the reason or advantage of removing this feature?

I use another USB broadband for backup anytime the first one is not working. The problem now is anytime i sue the USB broadband, it is only the host system that will work. other system will not work. I use it sometimes and it worked suddenly it stopped working and I have tried all I can.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with my network, specifically printer and file sharing. I have 3 computers, (2 wired, 1 wireless) The network hasn't worked for quite a while. I just hooked up a new (wired) computer and it won't work on the network either. With the wireless computer, if I click on "view workgroup computers" I can see all the computers but cannot access them. With the 2 wired computers, I always get the message, "MSHOME is not accessible," etc. Funny thing is, the network used to work. I don't know what happened to it. I just formatted this new wired computer and loaded XP on it, used the network setup wizard, but keep getting the "not accessible" message. However, last month, I was working on my mom's computer and I put it on my network (hardwired). I had just formatted it and put XP on it and with that computer, I was able to access the laptop computer through the network.I have tried several times to create a new network by using the network setup wizard but it keeps saying that MSHOME is unavailable.I am using XP service pack 3 on all computers, Zone Alarm on 2 of the computers (the router and the new computer), and Windows Firewall on the other wired computer. I can access the Internet with all 3 computers.

When one of those users tries to connect to the share from a PC, he is denied permissions, but when the same user connects to the share from a Mac, the file permissions work as they are set.I checked effective permissions for each user in the group, and they have the access they are supposed to. I've tried re-creating the share, recreating the group, and comparing the permissions to another share that is set up the same way (but working properly).

My team are using shared folders on dropbox, but we are having issues where some of the shared files will not appear for some users.I've created a shared folder, and all users have accepted invitations to the folder, but it will not appear in one user's dropbox (neither desktop or in web browser), but it does appear in other user's dropbox.I'm having this issue with several shared folders.The dropbox folder is being shared between 1 pc and 2 macs.I've tried re-inviting & clearing the dropbox cache to no success.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.
After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing.The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing.The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules,can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.
The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice.It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules.That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!
Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. The three computers are Windows 7 64bit desktop, Windows 7 64bit laptop, Windows XP Professional 32bit desktop.
What I tried so far...
Right-click on folder I wanted to share
Click on Sharing Tab
Click on Advanced Sharing>Permissions>Add...>Locations
I only see the name of the local computer, I don't see the two other computers on the network. The window looks similar to this, how I can find the other computers in my network, in the locations window.
I've got an HP Microserver, running server 2008 R2 foundation, and I'm using it for file sharing. All files are in a single folder with subfolders, and located in drive C.
The problem is that the server limits the number of LAN connections to it to 31. I've already changed the max. number of connections to the maximum, but doesn't seem to work. Network discovery and file sharing are on, firewall is off, full access rights for everyone.
The error I get when trying to access the shared folder is: 'Microsoft Windows Network: No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept'
Right now every computer is connected through a workgroup and some computers are sharing files to everyone and some need a login to share other files. I want to run a main server where all the files are on that computer and have it share all the files to everyone else on the network. I'm not too familiar with Windows workgroup networking and file sharing.I want to have certain files accessible to certain computers and certain files accessible to everyone on the network. I'm under the impression that I have to have the main server with all the business documents. Then create separate accounts on the server and hand them out to each individual computer. After, go to each document and specify who can access what with read/write. Can I share some files to everyone and have certain files limited to other computers at the same time? How would someone access the shared files when you need a login and will this login conflict with files shared to everyone and files shared to certain people. I remember on my small business network I need a login for certain computers because it is shared to only certain people then how would I access the files shared to everyone when I have to login to see the server files to begin with?
