Home Network :: Windows 7 Asking For Password On XP Machine?
Oct 9, 2012I have 2 windows 7 laptops running wireless and a windows xp desktop connected by wire to linksys router. The desktop has no problems accessing the other computers.One laptop has no problem accessing the other computers on the network. The other laptop has trouble with the windows XP machine. It asks for login info, which there is none. I tested with the laptop wired and it seemed to access it normally. Also, it is not consistant. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have gone through other posts and made sure that password requirement was off

Jan 22, 2013I have a media player on my home network, which consists of 3 desktop pcs (1 xp home, 1 win 7 home p, and 1 win 8 pro) and 2 nas boxes. Nothing is wireless, all cabled. All pcs can talk to each other and the nas boxes, all have internet access.Problem is when I try to access pc files with my media player. It can access the nas boxes and the xp pc fine, but when i attempt the win 7 or 8 pcs it asks for ausername/password. The win 8 pc has both, but the media player wont accept them, and the win 7 pc has never had a password. I tried putting a password on the win 7 pc, but the media player rejects the user and pw.

However, I can not access the internet when I chose a security password using WPA 2, WPA-PSK + WPA 2 PSK, or WPA/WPA 2. It only accesses the internet when I chose None.( no secured ).At this time, my network is unsecured because there isn't way I can access the internet when I create a security key using the 3 options the router offers.
Note : I have tried the 3 security options creating a key number and my computer connect to the wireless network but don't access the internet. It only access the internet when I select None ( no secured )

Under Homegroup No other homegroup computers are available. In Homegroup the identical password is displayed on each PC. The Akoya is wired, the others are wireless. Summing up the Akoya cannot access the RC710.

Jan 19, 2012I have a need to be able to remotely access, from my laptop running Vista, eight computers on different networks, all running Windows 7 Home SP 1, 64 bit. I have discovered there is an issue with remote access and SP 1.To give a little more info, I am in a group organizing two afterschool programs in two different churches. Each church will have 4 laptops (Win 7 SP1). I need to be able to remotely access each computer from my home at various times to provide reports on usuage, and to troubleshoot any problems. The cost to purchase a program is prohibitive, as this is a non-profit venture to assist kids in need.

I am able to connect to the vpn, from another internet connection, but there is no local network acess. It says the status is No Internet Access. and the IP that is assigned is the 169.x.x.x one that windows defaults when it doesnt find a dhcp server.How can i get the client to connect with full local network access. Feb 15, 2013I've been able to duplicate my problem by using another WinXp computers instead of a USB drive plugged into my router. Same exact problem. So, the bottom line is that I can access (and modify) the files across the network if I'm doing so manually, but my Windows service fails when trying to do the same thing. If I run the program through Visual Studio, it works. If I run that same exact code as a Windows service, it fails.

Apr 10, 2012I have a WES610N in my office connected to a E4200 @ the cable modem in the family room. ~30'.The connection is fine and works well when working.Connected to the WES610N I have:
-Polycom VOIP phone
-HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server
-Desktop
-Multi-Function Laser Printer
I have two issues.
1) The Polycom does a random reboot that I have traced down to it loosing it's IP
2) The Windows Home Server looses it's IP requireing a hard reset.
I have enabled QOS for the polycom and that just worked with managing data. However both devices seem to loose their IP regularly. The desktop might also be having the issue but because it is Vista I suspect Vista is better equipped to deal with IP issues.

I can't seem to find a way to do this downstream from our ASR1K to the customer though.

Problem description:We have many xDSL users (ADSL2+ and VDSL2). They all sync at different speeds depending on how far they are from the DSLAM.
Example:
Customer A might be connected at 40000kbps/10000kbps (VDSL2)
Customer B might be connected at 5000kbps/600kbps (ADSL)
When they connect and the PPPoE session comes up, the bandwidth on the Virtual Access Interface is equal to the customer's downstream sync rate, so Customer A's virtual access interface, Virtual-Access 2.13 will say 40000kbps, and Customer B's virtual access interface Virtual-Access 2.39 will say 5000kbps.Using RADIUS, we apply a sub-qos-policy-out to the PPPoE session.I want to shape the customer to 80% of their sync rate so that we do not hit interface congestion in the DSL network which makes VoIP perform poorly.I cannot use an absolute value for the shape, because the sync rate varies for each customer.The problem I have is at present the policy-map is using the interface bandwidth of Gi0/0/1 (1Gbit) instead of the bandwidth of the Virtual Access Interface. Therefore the customer is being limited to 800Mbit which means the QoS policy will never take effect.

So you can see it's desireable now that AP5 uses AP4 as it's parent.Over time, the system might figure it out, but our limited experience shows it seems to stick to the way it is.To complicate matters, sometimes we've found that it doesn't seem to reconfigure when the channel number has changed so AP5 can reach AP3, but AP4 (1524) comes up with a different channel on it's downlink radio.So, how can we force a mesh topology reevaluation/change for either 1 AP or the whole bridge group?I thought changing the bridge speed from "auto" to 54M (on AP3 above, for example) might force the attached children to rethink it, but it didn't seem to work (maybe I needed to wait an hour?).I also thought tweaks to "Radio Performance Profile" for radio might work. Oct 15, 2012I am designing a network for my client where I have to implement a 10 Gig end to end connectivity. The major factor of concern from my management is about scalability (space to include more 10Gig servers as the nodes grow up). I have suggested Cisco 5596UP with 2232 PP as this gives ample amount of 10Gig ports. The setup has to be implemented across 2 different datacenters located 40 Kms apart, connected with 10Gig DC Interconnect.
I understand that Cisco Nexus 2232 is a Layer 2 Only switch and would need to communicate with parent 5K switch very frequently. Is it necessary to have the 2K and 5K pair in the same datacenter or in proximity? Is it possible to have the SFP uplinks connected to the DC interconnect? Because we have two datacenters located 40 Kms apart and having 1*Layer 3 - 5K switch at DC A with Layer 2 - 2K nexus Switch at DC B will be cost effective. We do require more 10Gig ports and not much requirement on Layer 3 usage. What are the type of communication that would be much frequent between 2K and 5K?

I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.
When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

Feb 17, 2012I've been through pages and pages of Google and Bing searches, and I've found plenty who have this issue, but none who seem to get it solved. Three computers, all running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, are members of a Homegroup that functioned perfectly for more than a year until Tuesday of this week. On Tuesday, I installed Windows updates and also updated from Norton 360 v5 to v6.Computer A and B don't have password protected logins to Windows; Computer C is password protected. Until Tuesday, A and B have never been required to enter a password to access shared files and folders on C. Computer A still communicates fine in both directions with B and C, without having to enter C's Windows login credentials. B can be accessed by C, but when B attempts to access the C libraries that are shared by C to the Homegroup, the appropriate shared folders are shown (Documents, Pictures, etc.), but instead of their usual icons, the icons look like this: url... and if I try to click on them, I am prompted for a Network Password like this: url... The name following "Enter your network password to connect to:" is the name of C, and the "Domain" shown below the password block is the name of B. (Domains aren't even possible with Home Premium, are they?)
If I enter C's username and password I can access C from B, but upon rebooting B it starts all over again, even if I click "Remember my credentials." Sometimes I don't get the prompt and instead am told that I don't have permission to view
