I am trying to access shared folders on a windows xp pc on my home network from a windows 8 pc. I see the windows xp pc on the network from the windows 8 pc, but when I click on the windows xp pc icon, a window appears that asks me to enter a user name and password. I actually do not have any password on the windows xp pc.

-Polycom VOIP phone
-HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server
-Desktop
-Multi-Function Laser Printer
I have two issues.
1) The Polycom does a random reboot that I have traced down to it loosing it's IP
2) The Windows Home Server looses it's IP requireing a hard reset.
I have enabled QOS for the polycom and that just worked with managing data. However both devices seem to loose their IP regularly. The desktop might also be having the issue but because it is Vista I suspect Vista is better equipped to deal with IP issues.

The desktop has no problems accessing the other computers.One laptop has no problem accessing the other computers on the network. The other laptop has trouble with the windows XP machine. It asks for login info, which there is none. I tested with the laptop wired and it seemed to access it normally. Also, it is not consistant. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. All pcs can talk to each other and the nas boxes, all have internet access.Problem is when I try to access pc files with my media player. It can access the nas boxes and the xp pc fine, but when i attempt the win 7 or 8 pcs it asks for ausername/password. The win 8 pc has both, but the media player wont accept them, and the win 7 pc has never had a password. I tried putting a password on the win 7 pc, but the media player rejects the user and pw.

After that, the router behaved strangely, wouldn't connect, etc., so I upgraded to the latest firmware, did a bunch of hold-the-reset-button-for-30-seconds resets, etc., and it seems to be working again.BUT.... the download speeds are very slow, both over wireless and through a wired connection to one of the router's ports. I'm gettting anywhere from 60kbps to 400kbps, but it's been hovering around the 100-200kbps range. Upload speeds are fine, nearly matching those over a direct DSL modem connection.

I have at work a domain of computers. on one of the computers (I have admin rights) I want to share a folder that can be accessed by other computers that are not in the domain. By default accessing that share requires a user/pass. My question is: can I configure something on the computer (running windows 2008 server) to the shared folder so that other computers that are not from the domain will gain access to without user/pass requirement (like a normal share)?

However, I can not access the internet when I chose a security password using WPA 2, WPA-PSK + WPA 2 PSK, or WPA/WPA 2. It only accesses the internet when I chose None.( no secured ).At this time, my network is unsecured because there isn't way I can access the internet when I create a security key using the 3 options the router offers.

Under Homegroup No other homegroup computers are available. In Homegroup the identical password is displayed on each PC. The Akoya is wired, the others are wireless. Summing up the Akoya cannot access the RC710.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy primary source of internet at my house for the passed year is an at&t 3g usb modem (sierra wireless lightning), becuase i live in the middle of nowhere (only other option is satellite). Up until now i've been using a wireless ad hoc network to share the connection with multiple computers. I just purchased a cradlepoint router that is compatible with my usb modem so I can have a "real" wireless network in my house. I set it up yesterday and so far its working great, I have a wii streaming netflix, an android tablet, an iphone and two laptops (running vista, and win7 respectively) currently connected. The problem is my 3rd laptop, also win7. It is my primary computer that I use for business and absolutely essential that its connected to the internet. It (seems) to connect to the wireless network just fine, but gives me a "no internet access" error.
This laptop will connect to other wireless networks: it always connected to the ad-hoc, it will connect to my wifi at work and the network at my boyfriends house, also i just tried it with the verizon 3g mobile hotspot app on my droid and it connected right away. It also works just fine with a wired connection to this router (ethernet). I'm not sure where to start since every other device in my house is working with this network and this laptop will connect to other wireless networks.
ps/ Going through the windows onscreen troubleshooter it will either tell me "there is a problem with your broadband modem" or "There is a problem communicating with DNS server" (but it wont fix it)... and after going through endless google searches, i've done everything thats been suggested so far (making sure dhcp is enabled, powercycling the router/modem, updating drivers, ipconfig release/renew, disabling the firewall).
I had an issue with my Win 7 networking on LAN but no problem on wifi. When I plug in the network cable, it takes very long time to detect, and when it does, it shows Unidentified Network - No Internet Access and stays as public network. I do not have the normal options to choose Home, Work or Public Network. This happen at my work place. But my colleagues which on Win 7 have no issue. I tried to uninstall the anti-virus, disable the window firewall, but still fails to detect. There are few LAN port at my work place but it produce the same issue, very, very slow to detect.

My computer is running on Windows 7. It has had no prior internet connection problems. It is wired to my DV-2020 router. My internet suddenly disappeared, as in, it doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure as to when it disappeared due to my personal absence, but from what I heard it was either during 'starting a game' or 'installing firefox add-ons updates'. Internet does work on other computers sharing the same internet (wired and wireless). On the computer that does not have access to internet it gives a "local area connection - No Network Access" and "local area connection - unidentified network." So far I've tried:
A system restore.
Restarting the router (at home as well as the provider)
Changing wiring.
Disabling / Enabling.
Disabling virusscanner.
My Laptop stopped having internet access. I am able to connect to my Linksys (says Limited Access) but then it states I do not have internet access. I read other forums and tried to do the "command prompt" but when I try to run as administrator it tells me "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". My windows 7 computer was connected to my home's wireless network yesterday perfectly normally. I drove last night to my mother's house and proceeded to connect to her own wifi router wirelessly. Although my sister's computer that's on windows 7 connects ably, and both our iPhones connect, my computer will not. My computer finds the network( it is unsecured without a password if that makes a difference ) connects, receives an ipv4 address in ipconfig, yet does not obtain Internet access. It labels the network as an "unidentified network".
