May 3, 2011I have a network printer that I would like to use in a room away from the router. Can I use an RJ45 splitter so these two devices can share the same cable? It doesn't have wireless capability.

I want to share Printer with Notebook running Windows 8 64 bit Home. When I added PC to Homegroup it accepted files but the printer was not listed even though I checked to add printer. Printer shows up under Network and can be seen on Notebook but can't be opened. Was getting a 0x8007035 error and now just get "window couldn't connect to the printer, check name, turned on, correct address" can't figure it out, even added ip addresses to let firewall except even though. I can see and open all files, and folders on both machines from both Homegroup and Network.

I double checked that my printer (Cannon IP4300) was compatible and its on the list here [URL]. I've set up the router and this work fine, both my desktop (running windows 7 64 bit) and my laptop (running vista 32 bit) can access the router and connect to the internet fine, both via ethernet cable and over wireless connection.
However I've been banging my head against a wall with regards to sharing the printer. I can connect the printer to the router and in the router configuration there is a tab for the printer server and this see's my printer (Cannon IP4300). However when i try to add a new printer on either my desktop or laptop i cannot see the printer, whatever i try!

I also have a router connected to Network A and this router creates Network B.Network B's router has an IP address of 10.1.10.18 with a default gateway of 192.168.1.1. Also on network B i have two computers and two printers. One printer is connected directly to the 192.168.1.1 router and the other printer is connected to one of the computers via usb.

Jan 3, 2013We've got two computers in the Homegroup on our network -- call them computers A and B. Computer A (info below) is running Windows 7 Professional, Computer B is running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer A has an ethernet cable to the router, Computer B is connecting via WiFi.
The problem is: Computer A can access files and the printer on Computer B, but Computer B cannot access Computer A. When I'm on B and attempt to add A's printer, I get a message that:
"file and print sharing device A is online but isn't responding to connection attempts"
In the HomeGroup window on A, all sharing options (pictures, documents, music, printers, videos) are checked.

Server plugged into switch.Switch plugged into router.Router DHCPs except printer is static IP. All have access to internet through server then out through router.Have added another workstation that is not allowed access to the network (on purpose) but needs to be able to use the printer. The workstation is not under our security for virus control, etc so I don't want it in the server. But it needs access to internet and access to printer. Sep 28, 2012I am trying to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop, but when I open the 'network' folder from the start menu to access the desktop from the laptop, the desktop computer is not shown. I ensured that the workgroup names are the same, all sharing is turned on on both computers in Network and Sharing Center, since it is a private network, I checked the router settings and nothing seems to be wrong. The desktop is running Windows Vista Business x86 and the laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, so there is no way to make a Homegroup connection. However, I can see the laptop computer from the desktop's network folder. I click on it to gain access, but I get an error message: "Network Error, Windows cannot access \****-PC, check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found." have checked all wiring, router settings, and nic card settings, have done a successful ping, even Network and Sharing Center, I have also checked sharing permissions and permission levels, I see nothing that could possibly affect the access of the computers.
The only thing I can think of is that when I click on the 'Network ID' button under the Computer Name tab in System Properties on the desktop, it asks join a domain or workgroup, it will not let me save the selection "This is a home computer; it's not part of a business network," that may or may not be the issue, because it will only remain on "This computer is part of a business network" probably because I am running Windows Vista Business.

The file copy is working fine with my Ethernet connection however.The symptom is as follow. I cannot copy large file from a share to the computer. The copy starts then after a while (let's say 30MB copy over a 100MB file) it stops with the error 'File copy error: The network name is no longer available'. When this occurs, I still have my wireless card connected and I can ping my computer from the controller.I tried to adjust some radio settings (channel, power on the AP I'm connected to) because we have a large wireless network here, but no success. I also update the wireless card driver, create a new SSID, etc. No success at all. However the copy went fine for small file size.
