Cannot Connect To Wifi With Atheros Ar 9285 - Windows 7

my machine is HP ProBook 4530s (bought 2 weeks ago) with Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64. There is a public wireless network near my home which when I try to connect to I almost always get an "No Internet access" message and no connection. In the rare cases when I connect to the network it dissapears a few seconds after I manage to load a page. The reason why I'm writing about this is that I have another very old (4-5 years old) laptop - Asus with XP SP3 and Atheros 5006EG Wireless network adapter, which connects to this network very easily and with reasonable speeds. I have put the two computers next to each other and the old one connects with no problems, while the new, if finds the network (somethimes it doesn't show on the list of wireless networks or it shows with fewer bars), almost always gives the "No internet access" message and an occasional exclamation mark on WiFi network icon. I tried to read the descriptions of the two adapters online and as far as what I understand the new should be better in any way, but I am not familiar with the terminology, thats why i am starting this thread here.
My question is it possible my 5 years old laptop to have a stronger and better WiFi adapter than the new HP or is it a settings/software issue? If it is the latter, how can I fix it?

One other thing is that when I bought the probook it came with Linux SUSE operating system and the signal was again weak. I am not familliar with Linux so I switched to Windows.
my specs are:[CODE]After i re-installed win 7 home premium 64 bit edition i've managed to install successfully the Realtek PCIe GBE driver but when i connect the router directly to the laptop i got no internet.Meanwhile windows did not recognized the WiFi network card Atheros 9285.i tried diffrent driver and though it had been installed, in Device manager i only see "Bluetooth generic module" and in the "change adapter setting" i only have Local Area Connection.
I have a asus 1001 pxd netbook(intel atom 1,6 ghz,1gb ram,windows 7,Intel graphics accelerator 3150),with a wifi network adapter "atheros ar9285"my problem is:when i sit in the kitchen with my netbook (about 6 meters away from my wireless router, a Belkin with model number f7d1301 v1,and just a single wall between my net-book and the router)i have 4 or 5 ( max is 5) connection signal with my router(internet with no problems). but when i sit in my bedroom with my netbook(about 13 meters away from the router and 2 walls between my netbook and the belkin router and 1 floor higher then the router),then i have only 1 or 2 connection signal (max is 5)with the router. we have a cable network provider, but connection between pc's of this house and router of this house is via WiFi. Also we use a wpa2 key.once connected to the Belkin router on a signal higher than 3 there are no problems at all,perfect internet and downloads.
I have an older Compaq CQ50-215NR with the dreaded Atheros 5007 Wi-Fi. I get the error message Cannot Connect to Primary DNS Server when I try to connect to the internet wirelessly. When plugged directly into the router, it works just fine. But when I try to connect thru a wireless connection, it does not work. First, it gave me that error message, and I went thru all of the potential fixes on other threads, and it still didn't work. Now when I try to connect, it simply says that it cannot connect.
I have Vista SP2 and sometimes I can connect to some WiFis, but now I've had this problem to connect already with two different WiFis. First one was a shared WiFi in a residential house. That I solved by exporting and importing the wireless profile from the landlord's computer. This time even this solution failed me. Having imported the wireless profile in my new shared house, it asks for a password and accepts it, but then it says: "can't connect to UPC...". If I click "diagnose the problem" it concludes with "Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout"
Steps taken so far: I have now deleted all pre-existing wireless profiles from this computer -> no change

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."
How do I update drivers for atheros wifi adapter on hp PC that can not connect to internet due to need of updates?...possibly burn to CD on second computer and load on PC needing it?...however, I cant find a free atheros driver update site.
why my atheros ar5b97 wireless connction is automatically connected to the internet even not open or on the launch manager.. and why the indicator lihts is still in orange color even i on the launch manager it seems its turn to blue lights.. many times i tried to unistall and install the driver but the problem is still in?
i have a samsung N130 with an Atheros AR9285, a few months ago everything was working fine, suddenly i was disconnected, and i couldn't find any wi-fi connection. i tried system restore, installing the latest drivers, nothing is solving the problem. The wireless chip is working properly according to windows device manager.
Using a D-link usb dongle i could find wireless networks and connect to the internet.
I have two computers(with problems over 15 that work fine) an All in one Sony that has a qualcom 9285 and a new l521x dell laptop with a dell 1901 (also atheros).I have these issues with the sony for a few years - and just wrote it off as a computer problem - we have had the sony tech come out and replace the entire motherboard, wifi module?what made me link the issue with Atheros and the router was that my new laptop is behaving the same way as the sony. They both show connected to interenet (windows 7 64 bit(sony) and windows 8(dell)) I get an IP address, and I can ping websites. If I click to watch the network traffic (on the local connection status activity) I can see 50,000 bytes received every second I have updated the sonys and dells drivers to the latest one both from sony/dells site and from atheros download site as well - but it doesn't seem to make any difference The router also states its fully up to date

I deleted the above program and now my wifi does not work. I've updated the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled them and finally have replaced the wifi adaptor itself,
The laptops are supposed to be compatible with CCXv5 program, but in WLC (and two controllers CT-5508) the client is not seen as CCX client compatible !
So roaming is bad. Even with a very good and dense wifi coverage (no coverage hole detected), because the laptop still stay associated with a far AP (until -90dbm), instead of roaming with the nearests APs (-40dbm !!)
I have Lenovo laptop and my internet works just fine when the cable is connected but Wifi does not work. It shows that i have excellent signal on the side but it just wont connect. When i type in password it says " Windows cannot connect to XYZ ". I use Windows 7 and my wireless network adapter is Atheros AR9285.

I bought a new EA3500 too replace my old WRT120N. After I replace it with the same configuration as I had in WRT120N, my dongle Wifi WN100 (Atheros) stop working. Even it indicates that Wifi is connected and dispyed in DHCP current table, I can't ping the device from my PC connected to the router.I rolled back to my WRT120N and all works again.

I just bought new computer Acer Aspire V3-571G and i am having problems with connecting to wireless network. I tried installing drivers and it does not work... i know that nothing is wrong with hardware because everything works fine on linux.
I have an ASUS x54c running 64 bit windows7, I took my computer in to be repaired (it wouldn't charge properly) and when I got it back it wouldn't connect to the internet. It just says not connected with a big red X on it. The networ adapter is Atheros AR9285, I've tried running the built in diagnostics but with no results.
I've heard that AR5007 has troubles connecting to NetGear, but it's strange that I haven't had this problem until now. Maybe I've never needed to connect to a NetGear router before, but regardless.Wireless, it connects to the router but not to the internet. I've finally made the jump into Ubuntu and put it on my laptop. I have never used Linux before so it will be a bit of a learning curve although it does look quite user friendly.
I have already connected my Ubuntu laptop to my wireless router so I have internet. I would just like to be able to access files on my PC and vice versa similar to Windows Homegroup but I have no idea how.

I have been atte;ting to connect to m home wifii but all it says is "cannot connect" I can see the connection then once i attempy to connect it disappears and i must restart to try again. I tried turning wifii off and on again on the laptop.I checked the password on another device and I am entering it correctly. Ive reset the IP address and reset the router.
All other devices can connect to wifi, but windows xp can'tI have tried resetting the router, as well as the wifi connection on the xp, but nothing works.
My sister and brother live next door to each other and althought they both use my sisters wifi they want to be able to homegroup or network via wifi without either of them having to use the adsl cable from the router to their laptops.. I tried setting both computers up on a homegroup network but they cannot look at each others music and documents my sister has Win 7 64bit and my brother has Win vista 32 bit ? The win7 is in English so it does not seem to hard to find things. I downloaded for my sister -Advanced IPscanner - and Netcut but netcut does not seem to work on 64 bit and the IPscanner recognizes my brothers computer but will not shut it off - they wanted to be able to know when the other is online and also be able to cut one another off when they choose to.
I am having a similar issue with atheros AR5007 802.11b/g wifi adapters and Linksys E3000 but all I am getting is local area connection I have done many of these solutions but rebooting my system (missing the disc) I have a Hp Pavilion Entertainment PC dv3-1125nr with vista I am updating everything right now but I don't believe it will work I say you posed something about uninstalling and reinstalling atheros but I am unsure how or if my computer is compatible with what you posted earlier
I have used a few hours today for a friend of us who is here visiting hoping that I will be able to fix her HP laptop.Checked the cmd -> ipconfig and noticed that the default gateway is blank, and it says no connection for the various connections below it.I have tried resetting the WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog.Network card: Atheros AR5009. But even when I use ethernet cable it still does not work.I try the various repar and diagnosis but it is still not working.

I have several different computers that connect to my home wifi connection through my router and they are either Windows Vista or Windows XP. This is the only Windows 7 I think or maybe not, I have a new little mini that has Windows 7 I think, however, I am not able to get this computer to connect. I have unplugged the modem, unplugged the router, restarted my computer, checked my wifi connection and no matter what I do it will not connect.
I have a laptop that runs Windows Vista, and every time I want to connect to the Internet, I had it where I would enter the password each time, and I would always uncheck the boxes to save the connection. Today, my sister gets on my laptop and leaves the boxes checked, so now when I connect to my WiFi, I don't have to enter in a password anymore. Personally, I don't like this, and want to revert back to having to enter in the password each time. Is there a way that I can do that in Windows Vista, without having to reset the password itself or fooling with the router?
