I've heard that AR5007 has troubles connecting to NetGear, but it's strange that I haven't had this problem until now. Maybe I've never needed to connect to a NetGear router before, but regardless.Wireless, it connects to the router but not to the internet. I've tried to follow what other threads have to say about this, but it's not really making sense or it's just not working.

I know this is a common problem and I HAVE tried everysingle suggestion posted on this forum, including but not limited to: reinstalling drivers, making sure the adapter is configured for the appropriate gateway and even doing a full restore to factory defaults. NOTHING has worked.

I have Vista SP2 and sometimes I can connect to some WiFis, but now I've had this problem to connect already with two different WiFis. First one was a shared WiFi in a residential house. That I solved by exporting and importing the wireless profile from the landlord's computer. This time even this solution failed me. Having imported the wireless profile in my new shared house, it asks for a password and accepts it, but then it says: "can't connect to UPC...". If I click "diagnose the problem" it concludes with "Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout"
Steps taken so far: I have now deleted all pre-existing wireless profiles from this computer -> no change

I have three N-compliant devices and several G-compliant devices on my network. I also have two routers, one being used an an access point. The first is a Linksys WRT350N; the second is a Linksys WRT54G. I have the G router connected as an access point so that I can reserve the N router for the N devices and achieve N speeds.N devices:Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Intel 4965AGN.Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Atheros AR5008XLexmark Wireless printerRouter settings:WRT350N: Security Mode WPA2 Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode N-only; Radio Band 40MHz.WRT54G: Security Mode WPA Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode MixedThe best I can recall, I set the WRT54G to WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal because one of the G-compliant devices did not list the WPA2 Personal setting -- but this is based on memory only.To reserve the WRT350N for the N devices and achieve N speeds, I set the Wireless Mode to N-only and Radio Band to 40MHz., and each router broadcasts its own unique SSID. Once I set everything up, I saw a substantial increase in the link speed reported by the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor (I realize there are issues about taking these numbers at face value, but let me continue). The Toshiba Connectivity Doctor reported WRT350N link speed at 130 Mbps and everything appeared to be working well.PROBLEMUntil recently, no problems were apparent; the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated the two laptops connected to the WRT350N at 130 Mbps, the printer connected to and printed via the WRT350N, and all G devices connected through the WRT54G. Recently, however, network performance declined and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated erratic link speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 130 Mbps.I found through a little research that my quest to reserve the WRT350N router for N devices lacked one element: according to Linksys info for the router, setting the N Transmission Rate to anything other than Auto results in denying access to B/G clients.I set the N Transmission Rate to 270 Mbps (the highest setting). The Linksys printer works fine and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid 130 Mbps link speed for the Toshiba laptop with the Intel 4965AGN adapter card.The other Toshiba (with the Atheros AR5008X adapter card), however, is now only able to connect to the WRT54G (the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid link speed of 54 Mbps to the G SSID). If I reset the WRT350N N Transmission Rate to Auto, the Toshiba with the Atheros card can once again connect to the N Router -- but the erratic link speeds and the network degradation returns also.I have verified that the Atheros AR5008X network adapter is N-compliant. There aren't many settings on the Atheros AR5008X adapter card configuration, but I can find no documentation on the Internet for this card.As far as I can determine, all firmware is up to date for both routers and all drivers are up to date for both adapter cards.I'd love to know what changed in the first place, but I'm more concerned with fixing this problem. I can still see the network, but am told I cannot connect when attempting to connect to it. Restarting/shut down does not solve the problem - I have to restart the router itself, and then my computer will reconnect automatically. Other computers/devices will be unaffected by this and maintain a connection the entire time. Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter using Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had some problems in the last few days regarding my wireless router. i am using a Sony Vaio VGN-NS30E laptop with a TP-Link Wireless N Adsl2+ modem router. ISP = Utility Warehouse. Network Adapter = Atheros AR928X Wireless Adapter.
I can connect via Ethernet, but as soon as i try and use my wireless it comes up with "unable to connect". I also have a Print server running in the other room to allow me to print wireless. I have had all the wireless connections working up until this week (monday).
Called technical support after losing internet connection repeatedly and internet getting slower. ISP know reckons i should be getting up to 11.5mb's per second download, but connecting is the problem now.
I have an ASUS x54c running 64 bit windows7, I took my computer in to be repaired (it wouldn't charge properly) and when I got it back it wouldn't connect to the internet. It just says not connected with a big red X on it. The networ adapter is Atheros AR9285, I've tried running the built in diagnostics but with no results.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy machine is HP ProBook 4530s (bought 2 weeks ago) with Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64. There is a public wireless network near my home which when I try to connect to I almost always get an "No Internet access" message and no connection. In the rare cases when I connect to the network it dissapears a few seconds after I manage to load a page. The reason why I'm writing about this is that I have another very old (4-5 years old) laptop - Asus with XP SP3 and Atheros 5006EG Wireless network adapter, which connects to this network very easily and with reasonable speeds. I have put the two computers next to each other and the old one connects with no problems, while the new, if finds the network (somethimes it doesn't show on the list of wireless networks or it shows with fewer bars), almost always gives the "No internet access" message and an occasional exclamation mark on WiFi network icon. I tried to read the descriptions of the two adapters online and as far as what I understand the new should be better in any way, but I am not familiar with the terminology, thats why i am starting this thread here.
My question is it possible my 5 years old laptop to have a stronger and better WiFi adapter than the new HP or is it a settings/software issue? If it is the latter, how can I fix it?

One other thing is that when I bought the probook it came with Linux SUSE operating system and the signal was again weak. I am not familliar with Linux so I switched to Windows.
This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. I get the error message Cannot Connect to Primary DNS Server when I try to connect to the internet wirelessly. When plugged directly into the router, it works just fine. But when I try to connect thru a wireless connection, it does not work. First, it gave me that error message, and I went thru all of the potential fixes on other threads, and it still didn't work. Now when I try to connect, it simply says that it cannot connect.

I tried turning it on/off couple of times but it didnt work. I'm not sure if is just a timing, but it started when im on a cafe when i plugged in my friend's flash drive then after a while i lost all available wireless networks that time.At first i assumed it's because of virus, so i tried driver reinstall/reformatting/recovery disc but nothing solved the problem.
When I browse the net, i saw this Xirrius Wifi Inspector so i downloaded it with a cable connection then when i used it, it was able to detect the wireless network i have in my house but just for a couple of seconds, and the network disappeared.I tried other drivers, but i didn't work. As i've said earlier it is as if turned off.I've run this diagnostic test from Atheros driver and got this result with my WLAN switched on.While on this screeny, you can see in HP Wireless Assistant that my WLAN & is enabled, but at the same time Windows Mobility Center is indicating that my WLAN is not just turned off but it is like there is nothing there.

A couple of months ago my battery in my laptop stopped holding a charge. Ever since then I've had a lot of problems. The first was the USB drive would not recognize my mouse and the red light on the mouse would not even come on. Now I have 20 different yellow triangles on all of my drivers in driver manager and I can troubleshoot and fix all of them except for RRnetcap miniport 8. And even if I troubleshoot ill just have the same problem when I turn it off and on again. I have a new PSU in the laptop so that can't be the problem. I'm connected to my wireless network but it says no Internet acess.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Toshiba Satellite L750-04K, which has an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wireless card.It's specs say it's a 802.11b/g/n, but it only offers 1 stream N and max's out at 150Mbps. While the card incorporates Bluetooth, it's a very basic wireless card.While I had a 'G' series router, the laptop connectivity was great and never dropped me off the network, however when I upgraded my router to a new 'N' series, my laptop would constantly drop off my network, requiring a constant resetting of my wireless adapter to get me back online. Other devices were fine on the same router.Thinking my laptop was faulty, I sent it back to Toshiba under warranty and while it tested ok, they replaced the wireless card as a precaution. When I got it home, it was exactly the same, constantly disconnecting.I've tried every troubleshooting measure available and I've come to the opinion I need to put a much better wireless adapter in my machine, especially if I want to utilize 'N' routers.
The wireless card I want to install is an Intel 6235 6235ANHMW WIFI WLAN BT Bluetooth 4.0 Half MINI Card. I chose this card as it has Bluetooth incorporated and it's also dual band and offers up to 300Mbps.Will this wireless card be compatible with my Toshiba L70-04K and apart from drivers will there be any other changes I'll need to make to ensure the card works correctly? And of course, the Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor.It seems that no matter what I do wireless capability cannot be enabled. I tried turning the wireless capability button on and off but to no avail. Then I pressed FN+F2 and it didn't fix it. In both those situations a box which displays the status of the wireless LAN connection comes up, however, it reads "OFF" regardless of me performing the above two "fixes." According to my computer the card is enabled and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device driver but nothing changed.
There are a ton of posts about this issue, and I have tried everything. I have an ASUS Eee 1040 PC with an Atheros AR5700EG wireless network adapter running on Windows XP. I've had the computer for a couple years and it has worked fine, until recently. Using inSSIDer, I can view all wireless networks within range, but using Windows, I cannot connect to any wireless networks. It gives me the message that "No wireless networks were found in range." I had a few hotspots that I would regularly use and they are not showing up in the list of preferred networks. I know for certain that some of the hotspots that are within range are indeed broadcasting their ssid. I can only connect if I manually add a hotspot as a preferred network and configure it with the correct security settings. Even then, viewing available wireless networks gives nothing, and Windows doesn't remember the hotspot. I cannot stay connected to the internet with my Asus. When I troubleshoot, it says the wifi was not on, turns it on, but I lose connection again and then can't get it back. Brand new. No hardware button.

I also tried to connect it directly via ethernet cable that works and it will not connect. I want to connect my Mac directly with ethernet. I got a new modem from the cable company Arris TG862G. This is a wireless modem and I had them set everything up on their end which is now after 2 hours with them on the phone working fine. The problem I'm having is somewhere in my computer is my guess and their guys didn't know which way was up so i gave up on them fixing my issue. So here I am. I have a custom built computer that is using a Gigabyte mobo and has been working fine with the on board Ethernet card before now. I used to have the desktop plugged into an Arris modem via a Belkin router and this set up worked fine. I also took the current modem and plugged it into the Belkin N600 router and then to my computer and to my complete bewilderment it worked fine. I wanted to get rid of the router so I could see if I could get faster download speeds (That initial issue being on speed tests I get 50mb/s and on actual downloads I would only get 5mb/s).
I got it to work (I have no idea how) for about 20 minuets. When I restarted the computer it stopped working. I am now back to square one which is the desktop not even recognizing that there is a cord plugged in. I know the cord is fine and the ports are fine as well that isn't the issue. My laptop connected just fine to the Ethernet cord with no issue. I have uninstalled the Belkin software to see if that was the issue and no change. Everything wireless works just fine, it is just this Ethernet connection that is FUBARed, and again ONLY with the desktop.I am running Windows 7 ultimate. I am about to QQ and just deal with the 5mb/s downlods because that's not terrible but I got greedy.I was messing with the Ethernet wire some and it started picking up the router but never tried to connect to the internet, I'm going to try other wires but I don't think that's the issue.
OK so another update ladies and gents: my desktop has been on for about 40 minuets now and it is connected to the modem. I have done nothing to it that would cause this and it just randomly happened. Short of never turning my computer off again which would be hell on my power bill what can I do to fix this problem? On speedtest.net I'm only getting 30.48 Mb/s and as I said earlier I should be getting around 50mb/s (which is what I get on on the wireless laptop). I just restarted it and it wouldn't connect to the modem again.
I built my first computer yesterday and everything went amazing. Unfortunately, I am having trouble simply connecting to the internet via wired, ethernet, cables. I can connect wirelessly but I need to connect wired as well. My IP when I am only using a wire starts as 169..I know this typically means there is a problem with my router, however, due to the fact that my laptop can use the wire router perfectly fine but my computer doesn't I am at a loss. I have downloaded the ethernet drivers but I don't know what to do.

I plugged into desktop's netgear router with ethernet and still wont connect to internet. When I go start/run/regedit in local services there is no wireless listing on bottom to enable. When I try to connect it says there is problem with Realtek Nic and only shows Broadband ppoev, something. T hought maybe I need drivers from hp to make everything work again but having trouble. Downloaded network to file then burned to dvd r on other laptop. Not sure how to load onto laptop in question (hpg60 230us). Also tried command prompt/ ipconfig.
