Dec 10, 2012We own two houses next door to each other and I have the first 655 set up as WAP, wired to second in other house as a range extender. Works perfectly. I would like to add a third 655 (wired to the second) to extend my range further.

Feb 26, 2012I seem to get worse range on the DIR-655 than I did on the DIR-615. I was able to walk out to the parking lot with 1 bar of signal on my phone with the DIR-615. I can get about half way there before I have no signal now that I've got the DIR-655. Are there some settings to disable that might be playing a role in this? I've got the router configured for wireless N only, could that have something to do with it?

Jan 12, 2011I have a device(internet radio) that seems to require an address format of 192.168.xxx.xxx. The router does not do this range and I cannot set it to that range ( the first three xxx). If I try the router defaults back to 192.168.x.xxx. Any way to over come this so I can connect the radio (which works fine wired as the ISP can supply a 192.168.xxx.xxx IP address).

Jun 4, 2010I get 10% signal in my bedroom using WEP2 and I would like to boost this to at least 50%
1) I have 2 DIR-655 Wireless N routers, both functional.
2) The first router is on the other side of the house from my room
3) The second router is not in use at all ... I'd like to take advantage of it
4) I have an Ethernet drop in my bedroom that runs under the house to the first router. I have a switch on that drop and use it for my Sony / Netflix box ...
I have been told that the DIR-655 cannot be used as a repeater. Can I not take advantage of the 2nd router to boost my signal in any way?

Apr 17, 2011I am going to be a Freshman in college next year and I wanted to know if there are ways I could decrease the broadcasting range of the DIR-655 (to keep it as contained to my room as possible).
I plan on disabling SSID broadcast, but would using only 1 or no antennas yield this desired effect of lowered range? Are there features in the router management that can lower the range?

Sep 9, 2012I have the main router, which is SMC SMCD3GN from Rogers in Canada, and I have heard from MANY people that this router REALLY sucks..especially the range. And I myself also had problem with low signal in the 2nd floor of my house, so I purchased the wifi repeater (TP Link) to extend the range. I followed the guide given in the box, and everything was set up flawlessly. However, after a few hours of use, all my devices (laptop, tablet, phone) which are in the same room as the repeater decrease the signal again, to the point where it was before I purchased the repeater. Then if I disconnect the wifi and reconnect, the signal is full again. Sometimes I have to unplug the repeater from the wall and replug in order for it to work.

May 7, 2013I just replaced my DIR-655 with a DHP-1320 since the constant microwave usage in our house whacks out our wireless during breakfast and dinner time. Now the PCs on the other side of the house are connected over a Home-Plug network.Is there a way to connect the DIR-655 to one of the Home-Plug ports on the distant side of the house to "extend" the wireless coverage there for our laptops? Presume this is a different scenario than creating a "bridge", "access point", or "extender" since the router would be connected back via Ethernet cable. There may be some overlap too in wireless coverage around the middle of the house. Ideally I'd like to use the same SSID.Has this ever been done before? What would I need to reconfigure on the DIR-655?

Routers are connected to each other via LAN ports with a switch in between.Both routers have the same wireless SSID with the same password. I am able to connect wirelessly to both routers no problem.
I have a machine running a shared iTunes library which has a wired connection to router1. I also have an Apple TV wired to router2. My issue is if I am connected wirelessly to router2 I may or may not be able to connect to iTunes library. Conversely, if I am connected wirelessly to router1 I may or may not be able to play content from iTunes to Apple TV. I cannot figure out why everything works fine sometimes yet at other times I cannot connect devices between the two routers.
D-Link DGL-4500 - Long Range Wireless Router

I am looking for a more powerful wireless router that has a larger range. I want to have the ability to use the laptop at the house next door, so I need a range of like 150 ft, going through multiple walls (both concrete and wood) and still have enough for general Internet access.
My first question is if it's even possible and if so, what is a good router/system to use.
I would still need the ability to connect Ethernet to the router (at least 4 ports) and the wireless, obviously.
A major benefit as well would be the ability to install something like pfSense or DD-WRT onto for further management.

I have an Optus Home Zone (mobile cell tower) that requires ports open.

I have assigned the Home Zone a Static IP outside the DHCP range and set the above Ports on the NAT, Virtual servers to that IP address.
I have used nmap to scan the ports and it provides open/filtered status for all of them.
Here is the kicker for me, i use a DGN3500 netgear (which keeps dropping WiFi hence its replacement) and enter the ports and it works straight away. Un plug and put the Tp-Link and nothing.
I use Eset Smart Security, could that be the problem?

Mar 30, 2011We currently use the DIR 655 in our home. I has a great range, and we've never had any problems. Our house is a very tall Victorian, so some areas don't get as strong a signal as others. I'd like to set up a few addition devices to extend the coverage of our network.
I installed a DAP 1522 as a bridge to our entertainment PC. After a while of trying to sort out how to configure it everything is working there. The 1522 is connected to the PC via cable.
I still want to extend the overall wireless range to better cover the lower floors and back porch.
From reading the manual on the 1522 I am a bit confused. I understand how it works as a bridge, connecting devices via cable. Will it also extend the range is set as an Access Point without needing the devices to connect via cable?

I have low signal range from this WDR4300 router on both bands and especially on 5Ghz i lose my connectivity on just few meters away from the router and on other rooms in my 80m2 apartment, i also own another tp link 740n with only one antenna and the range is better with it almost covers all my apartment. Router has been reset after being updated to latest firmware and tried different configurations but im not satisfied with the signal range. Is there something i can do.
