View 1 RepliesI have a friend with a very large area to cover with internet. He already has a Belkin F5D7634-4 wireless modem router.Connected to this is a Belkin F5D7132 wired as an access point using an ethernet cable and adapter. Working perfectly.I need to add a second Belkin F5D7132 wired as an access point using an ethernet cable and adapter. This is to give coverage in another area of the building. My problem is this:-Both access points work perfectly on their own.
Router - IP 192.168.2.1
Wired access point 1 - IP 192.168.2.256
Wired access point 2 - IP 192.168.2.250
Router + Wired access point 1 = WORKS
Router + Wired access point 2 = WORKS
Router + Wired access point 1 + Wired access point 2 = NOTHING WORKS (router goes bonkers and all the lights flash very fast)What do I need to change to get them all to work together?I have spent an hour on the phone to Belkin support, they took me through the steps to install a wireless range extender.
Little info on my setup as is: Comcast ISP Internet Modem with the wireless gateway built in. I live in a faily large house and am out in my garage a lot where the signal is sub-par, id also like to have internet out in my yard without it sucking.
I have an extra linksys wrt45g sitting in my garage...could I use that someway to extend the range of my wifi? The signal from my main gateway is wireless N.
what is the maxium range of a router?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Belkin router and a Belkin range extender. I have the router downstairs and the extender upstairs. Right now the router operates as <SSID> and the extender is <SSID> Alt. I would like to use them both as <SSID>, and have them work together. For example, I use the Wifi downstairs on my laptop, I walk upstairs, and I don't have to change over to the other network. It would switch automatically to the stronger signal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started out with a wireless router/modem that my ISP provides as its default modem. It was and still is working fine. We will call this router A. My uncle who is living with me wasn't receiving the wifi signal in his room so he went and bought a different router that is supposed to have more range. Also, I believe it is capable of providing higher speeds wirelessly, but that is really irrelevant I think. We can call this new router B. I currently have router B running through router A with an ethernet cable into a LAN port- LAN port to LAN port. I basically want B to be a wireless range extender. My question is quite simple actually. I have everything up and running just fine, but it seems as if the wireless signal may still be coming from the old router A.

With the configs i have tried.I have cloned the mac addy for the wifiAP i have shared. This should be enough. And i should be able to walk it across the street and have it act as the same wifiAP. And he should have the net, via my pc. I tried to use another wifi device to connect to the shared IP...And the router itself...But there was no internet. have tried to configure this router to work as a repeater as well using it's setup. This resulted in no internet connectivity over lan, and no wifi service listing. These is no way for me to tell it which router or device it should be repeating from...
I have tried manually configureing the mn-700 To use the same ip the other router does for it's services. The mn-700 doesn't keep the settings. When it does there is no internet or wifi services. When i have it setup on it's own, no config changes...It'll connect over wifi to the router but there is no net. I can connect a lan wire going to the other router and renew it's lease. This will give the mn-700 an ip addy as if it were another pc. It uses this as it's WAN config
Im having trouble connecting to a wireless router. I live in an apartment and my next door neighbor said it would be ok to use his wireless connection. It shows up as an in range router but when I try and connect after entering the wpa password he provided me it just acts like it's going to connect but then never does. Doesn't even attempt to aquire an ip. I went to his apartment and attached my computer directly to his netgear router and that worked fine. My computer is a dell running windows xp service pack 3.

What do you guys recommend in terms of channel selection. Should I try to cover different channels with each router or keep them the same? I have been using inSSIDer to try and watch the strength and width of various settings. It seems I get better strength (at least according to Windows 7) when I have the channels set the same.

I recently bought a new D-Link DIR 615 but I dont get adequate range in the rooms farthest away from the router. I have an old D-Link DIR 634M router which I'm told can be used as a wireless repeater.I went through several articles that describe connecting the two routers through a LAN cable. However is there a way to do the same without using a cable of any sorts?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a BT broadband connection with one of their BT Home Hub 2 routers. Within the house the wireless signal is fine, however I have an outside office in the garden which is just beyond the normal range of the wireless signal. I tested this by connecting using my DELL XPS Win7 laptop and walking from the house to the office and it lost the signal about 10 feet short!
Is there any way to extend the range of the wireless signal? I cannot use homeplugs as the office is on a different fuse box from the house.
The BT Home Hub 2 is an ADSL router using n technology.
I do have a spare Netgear N150 ADSL2+ wireless router, is there any way of using it to boost the range of the signal?
I purchased a 2nd router to boost my wireless range.in order to set this up, is all I have to do is set router 2 outside the range of the DHCP and turn OFF DHCP on router 2. Then I can successfully connect the two routers and if I am upstairs use router1 and downstairs use router2 wireless signal? What would be the pros/cons of using the same SSID? I know one benefit would be not having to set-up each device to connect to the new network name of router 2, but IDK what problems this could ensue. One immediate problem I can think of is if a device could not connect I wouldn't know which router (router1 or router2) the device was unable to connect to immediately.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been looking around for quite some time and can't find a complete answer. I have a Linksys WRT54GL router handling my home wireless network located in the living room (let's call it 'Zone A').I have an ethernet cable running from that router to the other end of the house (let's call this one 'Zone B'), where the wi-fi signal is very weak. a. What is the technically correct way to have a strong wi-fi signal at Zone B (with the same SSID, key-phrase, etc.)? b. If I take another WRT54GL router, set the same SSID and key-phrase, disable its DHCP and plug it to the ethernet cable in Zone B - will that do the trick? I've tried the Linksys range extender at a friend's house and it turned out to be a big flop.

I have two spare routers i'm not using, one is a Speedtouch ST585 v6 and the other is a Belkin F5D7632-4 and was wondering if I could use these to extend the range of the home hub wirelessly. View 2 Replies View RelatedOur wireless router is in a room at one end of the house (beside the telephone point) from which ethernet cables can connect to the Cat5 sockets taking the broadband to the other rooms that have a Cat5 socket. That is fine for connecting devices to the sockets in the other rooms but because the house is old with thick walls our wifi signal fades to nothing in some parts of the house. Moving the wireless router only moves the problem to another area. I thought about a wifi repeater but the room I would like to locate it in to then boost the signal to the rest of the house is borderline on the range for the wireless router. Is it possible to connect another wireless router or device to the main wireless router through the Cat5 cabling so that the second router/device can offer wifi to that area of the house?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAny spec on the range of this router. I bought it last night to replace my existing Linksys WRT300N and it appears it does not even come close to matching the WRT300N's signal range. In fact, the new E3000 barely covers 1/2 the area my 300N did.
Network mode: Mixed
Channel Width: Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz)
Channels: Auto DFS

I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.
