Jan 25, 2011I've been noticing a Belkin router on my network for a while now and just yesterday another Linksys router as join the party, causing havoc on my connection speed!
The strange thing is that I'm the only one seeing them through Norton on my laptop, all other computer on my home network is not detecting them. could this mean that someone is monitoring me? is possible? If I move permanently to Ubuntu linux would the problem go away? OR will they still be able to connect and monitor me?
Rogue Network Cable Can't Connect Using Switch
Feb 19, 2012I have an underground cable connecting a classroom to the main server.
If I plug any computer directly into the underground cable it connects to the server fine.
If I plug a switch into the cable, none of the computers connected to the switch gets an IP address from the server. When I try to assign manual IP addresses I also can't connect.
But when I use the same switch and plug it into the server using a shorter cable everything works.
N600 - Set DHCP Server On Guest Network?
Mar 6, 2012So have a wireless guest network on an N600 router. Here is my setup:
pf sense -> untangle -> switch <- N600
the N600 is just an access point and does no DHCP. The primary wireless network gets IP no problem but the guests are not getting an IP. I'm assuming the N600 has no way of issuing an IP on the guest network. how to set a DHCP server on the guest network and have a static route to the pfsense firewall from that network.
Unidentified Network / Unable To Contact DHCP Server
Mar 13, 2013I just moved to Auckland, NZ from the USA to go to school at the university here, and am having a problem connecting to the internet in the university residence hall in which I am living.Wifi is not available in the residence halls, so we need to use an Ethernet cable. When I plug in my computer, the network adapter icon says Identifying for a while then settles on Unidentified Network with no internet access, the IP is 169.x.x.x.When I try to release and renew the IP, it says unable to contact your DHCP server, request has timed out".I've tried multiple Ethernet cables, both brand new.I tried connecting to a port in a friend's room in the same building, and even in a classroom on campus, and both had the same result.Naturally after all that I assumed my NIC somehow died overnight while I traveled here, so I went to a computer repair shop expecting to have some hardware replaced, but we plugged it in there and it worked immediately so they weren't sure what to tell me.
I've gone through pages of old threads at this forum and others like it, trying solutions but having no luck.I've power cycled my computer, obviously I can't power cycle the whole network as it's for 200 people, but the IT people here have tried resetting it for me on their end as best they can. This is due to rogue device spoofing AP 'grafs-S03' BSSID or targetting AP 'grafs-S03' BSSID. - Controller Name: grafs-wlc-01E-mail will be suppressed up to 30 minutes for these alarms.Then a minute later I get the following to say its no longer being contained.WCS has detected a change in one or more alarms of category AP and severity Critical in Virtual Domain root. The new severity of the following items is Clear:AP 'grafs-S03' with protocol '802.11b/g' on Controller '10.96.192.5' is no longer being contained. On the Monitor tab I can see under the Rogue Summary numerous "Rogue AP's" as well as the clients associated to these AP's. There are no Rogue AP's on my wired network according to the report. My question is this: What actions should I take regarding these "Roague AP's"? Many of them appear to be just other AP's in the residential area near by. I know I can take action to classify them as Friendly or Malicious as well as Internal or External, but what benefit is there to doing this? Will taking these actions keep my AP's from scanning off channel for Rogues? I read that if a "Rogue AP" is not on the wired network that is really is not considered a threat. Any Cisco best practices regarding how to handle detected Rogue AP's ?

Is there a way within the wcs or wlc to determine better if any of these rogue AP are on my Lan?If I can locate the mac address of the ethernet port on the rogue AP I can track the port down on the appropriate switch & shut it down.

Sep 3, 2012How do I fix my network so that my Windows 7 and XP computers automatically detect each other on the network. Right now, they cannot browse each other by computer name, instead I have to type their IP addresses (for example: \192.168.2.5) in the windows explorer address bar, and then I can browse to their shared folders. And under "Network" (in Windows Explorer) each computer only displays itself, and not the other (unless I have already typed in the other's IP address, in which case it displays the other computer as the IP address).

Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. It would stopped connecting and then I would have to connect it again via password..but now it has done it! This dam laptop. However, when I look look at the available networks I can only find BT Openzone (it's a pay as you go service, I'm using it now to try and fix this ), and some random BTHomeHub. Nov 15, 2012I was using my computer this evening and suddenly it lost the connection to my wireless network and is now saying there aren't any wireless networks in range at all. I know this is wrong because my laptop (which I'm writing this on now), my PS3 and my phone are all able to detect not only my own network but other networks in the area.I've tried a couple of restarts on my PC and it briefly connects to the network and the internet (it connects to Steam and if I'm quick I can look at a couple of webpages). After a couple of minutes though, it loses the connection and decides there aren't any networks in range again.

However, I know that the network is working because other laptops at home are able to detect it. I don't think there is anything wrong with the laptop because I can still detect other wifi networks in our neighborhood. The problem only seems to be with our home wifi network. If I restart the computer, the problem is usually solved.
