I just moved to Auckland, NZ from the USA to go to school at the university here, and am having a problem connecting to the internet in the university residence hall in which I am living.Wifi is not available in the residence halls, so we need to use an Ethernet cable. When I plug in my computer, the network adapter icon says Identifying for a while then settles on Unidentified Network with no internet access, the IP is 169.x.x.x.When I try to release and renew the IP, it says unable to contact your DHCP server, request has timed out".I've tried multiple Ethernet cables, both brand new.I tried connecting to a port in a friend's room in the same building, and even in a classroom on campus, and both had the same result.Naturally after all that I assumed my NIC somehow died overnight while I traveled here, so I went to a computer repair shop expecting to have some hardware replaced, but we plugged it in there and it worked immediately so they weren't sure what to tell me.
I've gone through pages of old threads at this forum and others like it, trying solutions but having no luck.I've power cycled my computer, obviously I can't power cycle the whole network as it's for 200 people, but the IT people here have tried resetting it for me on their end as best they can. I've been trying (in vain) to connect a USB Wireless device to be able to use it off my wireless network. I have (2) other laptops and (1) other desktop connecting to the router with no issues. For some reason, this old desktop keeps installing an Ethernet device (probably on the MB) and is automatically Configuring the IP address to that instead of the USB wireless device.I've tried uninstalling the Ethernet device but it comes right back after I do a reboot. Even when I disable it, I still can not connect with my Wireless device.
need to know why I can not connect to the internet after I am done downloading windows Xp on my Desk top. I got an error message from the cmd, saying that computer is unable to contact DHCP server.
I have a Dell 570 Inspiron desktop running win7 home premium w/ a 64 bit OS. I have Frontier dsl with a Westell 327W modem and a netgear router. Two desktops are connected to the internet...one through the modem and the Dell 570 through the router. I also run laptops through the router w/no problem. This morning the dsl went down, and when it came back up, the Dell 570 would not connect. i tried Diagnosing Connection Problems, and I'm told to turn off the modem/router (which I have done a gazillion times). When I look at Network Connections in the Control Panel, It tells me I have an unidentified network and can't connect. I read through some forums earlier, and found that releasing and renewing ipconfig often corrects the problem, and that's when I got the message that 'An error occurred while nenewing. Local Area Connection unable to contact DHCP server.' This set up has worked for the past year and a half. I looked at the network adapter, and it says it's working properly. I changed the cables going to the machines, and they both work on this computer. The only change made to the computer was to install McAfee security center through AOL yesterday, but the set up worked all yesterday and last night.
Until a couple of days ago I was able to connect to the internet wirelessly on both my laptop as well as my desktop. However, that has changed for the desktop, now I am unable to access the internet on it. It says that it can detect the signal. When I tried to renew the ip it responded with "An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out." [code]
I randomly lost Internet connection, and since have not been able to Renew an IP address! Other people in my household can connect just fine. I've tried numerous things to get my internet back, but continue to be unsuccessful in doing so.

I have reinstalled windows 7 on my Toshiba laptop, I have my wireless set to automatically connect, I have excellent signal strength and have another pc connected to wireless router, but my laptop does not capture IP addresses. I tried renew command but got message unabl to contact your DHCP server, request timmed out.
I've been having problems connecting my laptop to the internet through wireless. When I plug it in with a cable it works fine. I also know my wireless works fine because i have other things attached to it. When I try to connect it says limited or no connectivity, but the signal strength is excellent. I have tried to repair the problem but it then tells me it cannot renew my ip address. I've also tried the ipconfig /release then renew, and thats when it says about my DHCP.
I have a Gateway 818gm desktop pc and the wifi stopped working after I reformated the hard drive. I can not figure out where the wifi card is in this PC.
I can connect directly to the router wirelessly without any problems. When I use my powerline adapter I get the 'unable to contact DHCP Server' error. I've tried unencrypting the router with no success. I've also released/ renewed my IP. [code]
I've been running a cisco asa 5505 for quite some time and it has been running fine, now all of a sudden it starts to renew it's outside dhcp adress like every 2 hours. I dont think it's the ISP since I have another device connected also using dhcp to the same ISP and it doesnt renew itself, it's just the ASA. Rebooting it, makes it pick up an adress straight away. The interface seems to be up, the GUI just reports "no ip adress" and then the ASA get's a new IP after about 10-15 min without one. Pressing the renew IP adress button in the GUI throws an error.
I have a windows vista SP2 laptop, with an Intel wifi link 5100 adapter and a Realtek PCIe Family LAN adapter. From some time ago, I'm having this issue: each time I want to change network (from my job's to my home's, for example) I have to disable/enable the adaptors. This was not needed for over a year and so I own this machine, and I think It might have something to do with a network drive some IT guy in my new job installed
my RVS4000 is not renewing DHCP lease in Auto mode. Connection lost after 24 hours.
WAN Internet interface is physically connected to cable modem - Motorola SBV6120E. Setup as DHCP server. Cisco RVS4000 is obtaining DHCP public IP without any issue, the problem is that the connection drop every 24 hours and I need to release/renew DHCP each day to be able to communicate after 24 hours. After I loose connection I need to release DHCP, the WAN interface goes down and I need to renew DHCP then. I receive the same IP address and connection is againg UP and working.
tried to load new firmware and also setup the router with default configuration, but without any change. as there is no auto-reboot function, it is really annoying to log into managment interface each day. I also loose remote access after 24 hours, so I am not able to access the rotuer from outside. My local provider do not support static public IP on WAN, therefore I have to use DHCP.
I've got a new CT2504 controller with software version 7.0.220.0 Regarding to [URL]I've tried to configure the internal DHCP on a dynamic-interface, but this is not possible:(Cisco Controller) >config interface dhcp dynamic-interface vlan401 primary 172.16.x.3 vlan401 Interface IP can not be used as internal DHCP server IP It works, if I use another IP (aka DHCP server) in the same subnet or in another subnet. It works also for the management interface.

How do i get the 12.4 code to assign a dhcp address to my ethernet interface from my server? I deleted the default config on the 1141 and searching has not turned up anything useful.
I am running a Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows XP SP 3. My computer is displaying cannot aquire network address, can't contact dhcp. I have already had the modem and ethernet cables tested, they're fine, and I have tried replacing the network card, no luck. I have also run ip config renew and replace as well as ipconfig/all everything was zero. I checked the startup menu and all the appropriate network apps are marked started and automatic.
I have an 871 set up at home with 2 VLANs, both of these vlans present a strange behavior where an user is unable to ping/contact another user on the same subnet, however if users are on different subnet it seems to work [code]
According to the troubleshooting that I have done, the issue seems to be with the broadcast traffic, ARP request/reply do not reach another host on the same subnet (wireless to wireless or wired to wireless) however if the wireless device iniciates the connection to wired, it works fine.
I have tried to enable proxy arp on the different VLANs and BVI and different combinations but no sucess in order to get traffic across 2 wireless devices on the same subnet or a connection that is iniciated for a wired client to a wireless one.
I tried enabling and disabling dot11 arp-cache but no luck.
I'm running a system that requires a third (and potentially fourth) DHCP server to be setup on each network in my network. The first two devices are Windows DHCP servers serving IPs from different address ranges for failover. The third DHCP is just a listener to receive OS information and device names to be logged in a database.
Currently this works like a charm for my wired clients as I can add in the third and fourth ip helper-address on each vlan and the information is received by the listeners. However, I cannot find anywhere in my WLC5500 to setup these extra two DHCP helper addresses.
The wireless vlan on my layer 3 switch has all the ip helper-addresses, but this doesn't seem to work, and the devices just use the DHCP servers set on the interface in the WLC.
We've just started with the ASA 5505. We do run a DHCP server on the inside interface, so it is in the same VLAN 1 as all of the clients. However, we cannot get it to work.We can't use DHCP Relay, as the ASA 5505 only allows to relay to DHCP servers in a different subnet.Or do we have to move the DHCP server to a different subnet. If so, how would we configure that scenario?
I have two WAP321s in my office. The network they are on is a single VLAN (172.16.10.x). Both WAPs are setup with the same SSID, and I have setup Single Point Setup.
I am having a problem that was happening before I setup Single Point Setup, and it is still happening. Basically wireless will be up and running fine for part of the day. Then people throughout the office will begin to lose their connections to the DHCP server. They still retain the connection to the WAP, but can no longer access the network.
The only way I have been able to fix this issue is to reboot the WAP. As soon as it reboots the connections come back. At first I thought it was due to the number of connections (which is why we now have 2 WAPs), however we only have about 20-25 conncurrent connections.
I put in the second WAP to try to balance out the load but this does not seem to be working. Is there a setting I need to change on the WAPs to balance out the load?
I have a rather specific and annoying problem with my router. every few days or so the internet will cut out. However, i am still able to use websites that i have been using already, so am able to check emails read articles etc, but am unable to do things like stream videos from youtube or play online games. I run network diagnostics (Windows 7) and receive the error: Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (samsung.msn.com) is not responding. I have already updated all my drivers and have completely reinstalled my router and checked all cables etc. This appears to be only to do with computers that are connected wirelessly, as the pc connected via ethernet seems to be unaffected,
I have both a netbook and a gaming pc connected wirelessly. Netbook: OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Starter, Service Pack 1, 32 bit Processor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 28 Stepping 10
I have a Time Warner modem/router. There are a ton of different devices constantly being connected/disconnected to our router - itouches, computers, smartphones etc.
The problem started with my otherwise super reliable HP g42 (i3) laptop. Nothing would solve the issue other than recovering it back a few days to when the issue wasn't happening. But then it would happen again after a few days. All other devices would connect without issue.
Time warner's technical troubleshooting consists of "unplug the router for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Did that work?"
So now, my son gets his first computer and I bring it home last night. Also an HP (pavillion -i3). Same deal. At first, it connects fine and dandy. Then after about 2 hours it get the ol' "won't connect - diagnose the problem?" After diagnose, it says "DNS server may not be available.
Here's the thing: Both computers connect immediately and without issue to my smartphone wireless tether.
I can connect to the network but doesn't connect to the internet. I have tried a lot of ipconfig cmd's /renew said "unable to connect to dhcp server" and others didnt work all out of ideas.

That's a wonderful router on the paper! Really it has some problems with the wireless connection and the dhcp server. After 2 days of i must forced to reset the router because it refuse any wireless connection while the internet browsing on the other pc connected via ethernet ARJ45 is very slow.To complete the scenario the router doesn't allow any acces to his console page ..so what's the problem?
I try to change any channel for the wireless without no positive result.I bought it on amazon but if this situation will continue without any solution from tp-link i will forced to send it back with a totally negative feedback on the product.
Haveing issue with DHCP server handing out IP addresses to client connected to VLAN5 interface.ISP Router>Firewall -(WatchGuard Drop-in mode) I have several 3750 switches and one acting as a L3 switch. The L3 is configured as follow: [code]
If I connect a laptop to int fa1/0/10 I DO NOT get an IP address from the 10.100.0.8 scope. If I connect to another interface within the VLAN 1, I get an address from the 10.100.0.0 range.
Running ACS 5.1 appliance, and am seeing slow repsonse on TACACS authentications due to the ACS trying to reach overseas AD servers and failing. Is there any way to configure a /etc/host/ file locally on the ACS in order to force the appliance to use specific AD servers for authentication? As I understand the process currently, the ACS appliance will query the top-level domain and get a list of all the AD servers in DNS. In my case, this would include the AD servers overseas that we do not want to use.
We have 2mbps leased line and have Cisco 1841 which is managed by our ISP. I have hooked up another 1841 (please find basic config below, it will get more complex lateron) Now when I connect my laptop I am able to browse Internet. But when I conect VOIP phone, it is not able to contact it's Hosted Server on Internet.
VOIP phone is Polycom SoundPoint 550 and I get URL call disabed message. If I try netgear Firewall everything seems to work.that the voip provider needs following ports UDP Range 16384 - 32766, TCP 5060 & UDP 5060. But in my config all outbound traffic is allowed. [code]
I have an EA2700 running latest firmware 1.1.38.138827. It is using Cisco Connect Cloud. I am unable to access the DHCP Reservations link under Connectivity/ Local Network. When I click on it, nothing happens. I've tried multiple browsers including IE 10 (Windows 8 RTM), Firefox 15, and Chrome 21. I also tried on a Windows 7 machine with IE 9 and the link doesn't work on that either except that it shows a box that says Invalid Character when I click on the DHCP Reservations link. I see no invalid characters on the screen. Any workaround other than downgrading the firmware or assigning static IPs on individual PCs?Also, on an unrelated note, where is the Dynanic DNS configuration on the Cisco Connect Cloud?
We assign in our IPSec VPN the tunnel-address from our centralized dhcp server pools. In the profile we have two server's ip configured. In test (whireshark) we noticed that the discover always go to the first configured ip.
I do not understand and could not finf hints how the function is.
- backup server with a timeout when no answer comes from primary ?
- should ASA do simultaneous discover to all configured ip's ?
=>Problem is, that although the first server not answered in a timely manner, we noticed no discover to the second.
