I can connect directly to the router wirelessly without any problems. When I use my powerline adapter I get the 'unable to contact DHCP Server' error. I've tried unencrypting the router with no success. I've also released/ renewed my IP. [code]

I've been trying (in vain) to connect a USB Wireless device to be able to use it off my wireless network. I have (2) other laptops and (1) other desktop connecting to the router with no issues. For some reason, this old desktop keeps installing an Ethernet device (probably on the MB) and is automatically Configuring the IP address to that instead of the USB wireless device.I've tried uninstalling the Ethernet device but it comes right back after I do a reboot. Even when I disable it, I still can not connect with my Wireless device.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Auckland, NZ from the USA to go to school at the university here, and am having a problem connecting to the internet in the university residence hall in which I am living.Wifi is not available in the residence halls, so we need to use an Ethernet cable. When I plug in my computer, the network adapter icon says Identifying for a while then settles on Unidentified Network with no internet access, the IP is 169.x.x.x.When I try to release and renew the IP, it says unable to contact your DHCP server, request has timed out".I've tried multiple Ethernet cables, both brand new.I tried connecting to a port in a friend's room in the same building, and even in a classroom on campus, and both had the same result.Naturally after all that I assumed my NIC somehow died overnight while I traveled here, so I went to a computer repair shop expecting to have some hardware replaced, but we plugged it in there and it worked immediately so they weren't sure what to tell me.

I have a Dell 570 Inspiron desktop running win7 home premium w/ a 64 bit OS. I have Frontier dsl with a Westell 327W modem and a netgear router. Two desktops are connected to the internet...one through the modem and the Dell 570 through the router. I also run laptops through the router w/no problem. This morning the dsl went down, and when it came back up, the Dell 570 would not connect. i tried Diagnosing Connection Problems, and I'm told to turn off the modem/router (which I have done a gazillion times).When I look at Network Connections in the Control Panel, It tells me I have an unidentified network and can't connect. I read through some forums earlier, and found that releasing and renewing ipconfig often corrects the problem, and that's when I got the message that 'An error occurred while nenewing. Local Area Connection unable to contact DHCP server.' This set up has worked for the past year and a half. I looked at the network adapter, and it says it's working properly. I changed the cables going to the machines, and they both work on this computer. The only change made to the computer was to install McAfee security center through AOL yesterday, but the set up worked all yesterday and last night.

I have reinstalled windows 7 on my Toshiba laptop, I have my wireless set to automatically connect, I have excellent signal strength and have another pc connected to wireless router, but my laptop does not capture IP addresses. I tried renew command but got message unabl to contact your DHCP server, request timmed out.

I also know my wireless works fine because i have other things attached to it. When I try to connect it says limited or no connectivity, but the signal strength is excellent. I have tried to repair the problem but it then tells me it cannot renew my ip address. I've also tried the ipconfig /release then renew, and thats when it says about my DHCP.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear ProSafe FVS318 wireless router whose login information I have lost. I have attempted to manually reset it using the reset button on the back, and return it to factory default settings (thus resetting the login information to admin/password).I have checked everywhere, including the documentation for the router itself. I have gotten multiple instructions on how to reset it (generally telling me to hold the button down for anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds until the test light blinks or stays solid and then blinks or stays solid again, or telling me to hold down the button while turning it on). None of these methods have worked. The router still will not reset. It never reboots no matter how long I hold down the button, no matter when I release it, no matter what the orange "test" light is doing, and no matter if I begin with the router on or off. It will not reboot and I still cannot login.
The orange "test" light has behaved the same way each time; after 10 seconds, it turns solid, and then begins blinking before turning back off. After 20 seconds, it turns solid, and then turns off. It does this if I hold the reset button down for 10 seconds, regardless of whether or not I release the button after it first turns solid. If I continue to hold down the reset button, it continues this pattern indefinitely, for as long as the button is held. When I turn the router on, it turns solid before turning off, regardless of whether I am holding the rest button down. Its behavior never deviates from the observed patterns regardless of what I do. At no point has the router ever rebooted on its own.The default login should be admin/password, as this information is included on the bottom of the router, and in its documentation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my boss's (president of the company) laptop, wired LAN port, setup with a static ip so his laptop will bypass his company's web filter, and was going to let him use the wireless for home and travel. However, what if he needs to use his LAN port on a different network that doesn't support the ip's of our company's network? I need to see if there is a way, utility, or something that can be done to allow him to have a static ip assigned to that port and use DHCP (for when he is on other networks) so he can bypass the web filter.
I have a rule on the FW to allow his static ip to bypass the web filter. I have tried the alternate configuration inside XP and editing the registry to assign that nic dual ips, but I still get blocked on the filtered webpages. For now I have just emailed him the steps on how to switch it manually.
Wireless internet isn't working. The drivers aren't installed, and it never came with a cd so the only way I can install them is if i connect to the internet which i cant. I am thinking i need to download the drivers to a disk drive and then transfer them. Another possibility is, i somehow have a rogue virus on my computer ( probably julia who ruins everything )anyways it's called pc optimizer pro. I don't have an internet so i cant get any programs, but i got hijack this and TFC malware bytes and zone alarm security already on my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a small, simple small business network. There are 2 switches - an 8-port switch connected to my main Windows server (which is the DHCP provider for the network), and a 24-port switch which is plugged into the 8-port switch.
I replaced these switches (Dell unmanaged switches) with the Cisco 200 series smart switches (the 8-port and 26-port models). When I plug the 26-port switch into the 8-port switch, it is unable to get its DHCP address from the Windows server. Also, any device plugged into the 26-port switch cannot communicate with any other device, and all of the ethernet port lights flash at the same time at the same frequency - quite a light show!
If I plug the Windows server DIRECTLY into the 26-port switch it receives a DHCP address.
I have tried a 2nd Cisco 26-port swtich and it does the same thing, so I assume it is not a hardware issue.
After pconfig /renew (I get this error) No operation can be performed on pth while it has its media disconnected. An error occurred while renewing interface local area connect an operation was attempted on something that was not a socket.
I am also trying to wipe it but no not have XP disc and no one I know does either so what is the safest way?
I am using a proxy server with 2 NICs for sharing internet connection to my 100 desktop users in my office. NIC 1 is connected to my dsl modem and NIC 2 is connected to a main switch and further to more. But now i want to setup a wifi network for laptop users. I have enabled ICS on NIC 1 and NIC 2 has acquired it ip automatically (192.168.0.1) so the gateway for my desktop users is (192.168.0.1). But i want to use a new gateway. For this i have installed NIC 3 but it is not acquiring the ip automatically. My Proxy server configuration is: MS Server 2003 ENT edition.

I've only ever used the internet on this computer via my ethernet connectionI installed the network adapter with no problem (using the CD included in the box) and it appears in my device manager and is working correctly. However, when I look look at the available networks I can only find BT Openzone (it's a pay as you go service, I'm using it now to try and fix this ), and some random BTHomeHub. I should be able to see a lot more, including my Virgin Media network, but I can't. It was the best 'Dongle'[?] in the store, so I'm guessing it's not an issue of proximity. It is able to connect to the router fine and says it has a connection but is unable to access anything. And this is accessing the router either wirelessly or wired through an ethernet cable. I know that it is not the router because her roommates are able to access the internet fine and her computer is also unable to access the internet from other networks. Is it possible that the network card in her laptop has died and needs to be replaced? or could it be a corrupted driver? Would using a usb network adapter be a temporary fix? I have searched many forums trying to find an answer but have been unable to.Also a couple times when attempting to see if the wired connection worked I had plugged in the ethernet cable and was able to access google for 5 seconds and then it stopped working, and then unplugging and reconnecting would yield the same results

However, I can connect using neighbor's wireless connection and other laptops in my home are able to connect to the internet using MY wireless connection. The problem started suddenly, I used to be able to connect, then I had the problem so I rebooted and that resolved the issue temporarily. I tried disabling the wireless adapter card then rebooting, this did not work. I also unchecked the TCP/IPv6.

Ever since that update my Toshiba laptop has not been able to connect our wireless network. My other two roommates, though, have no trouble connecting. (they're both on MACs) He suggested that I update my drivers, but everything is already updated. When I plug in the Ethernet cable I can connect to the internet fine, having to come into his room late at night to watch porn.

(We use a laptop most of the time which is able to pick it up fine).I've installed the wireless adapter into the computer and installed the drivers however I receive an error message:

I experience similar speeds from my direct wired connection as well but I am having an issue with my speeds running through my Linksys PLE300 powerline adapter I am getting speeds of 4mbps down and 6mbps up. My PC is running Vista Home Premium SP2 (I know). Prior to the upgrade I was using a Netgear N600 and I was getting much faster speeds through the powerline. My NIC is a Intel 82566DC -2gigabit. I checked all the cables, I am using a CAT6 from router to Powerline and when I run router stats it shows WAN as 1000M/full and LAN1 (powerline) as 100M/Full.

I have a old G5 Mac without wireless so have always connected through my old belkin modem with Powerline adapters over my house wiring circuit:confused. I have a rather specific and annoying problem with my router. every few days or so the internet will cut out. However, i am still able to use websites that i have been using already, so am able to check emails read articles etc, but am unable to do things like stream videos from youtube or play online games. I run network diagnostics (Windows 7) and receive the error: Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (samsung.msn.com) is not responding. I have already updated all my drivers and have completely reinstalled my router and checked all cables etc. This appears to be only to do with computers that are connected wirelessly, as the pc connected via ethernet seems to be unaffected,
