The signal strength usually shows low or very low. I`ve been changing the channels through 1,6,11, but it doesn`t change the signal strength. My modem is a Netgear CGD24N v2. The computer operates ok but i`d like the signal strength to show better than low.
View 12 RepliesI seem to be struggling to connect more than 4 cameras to my (ISP-supplied) modem/router by Netgear CGD24N via WPS. I'm on my 5th camera now (already have 3x 930L and 1x 942L) but the newest 942L just won't connect to the network at the moment and there's definitely no faults here as I swapped cameras today at the local retailer (and got an A3 942L!).I've even tried connecting the camera to my wireless extender (Netgear WN3000RP) but no luck there.
So far it has only worked twice for short periods of time (enough for me to configure the cameras) but since then I can't actually get it working. I've got a couple of spare wireless routers lying around too and should be receiving a DIR-600 soon (from the Netgear promotion in Australia) which could be useful?
I have a linksys router WAG 120n and when using wireless if I move into the next room the signal strength goes down to 40% there is only one single wall in between the room and the router. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version turned off other electrical devices changed the wireless channels but none of this has worked. Any more settings I can try to get the signal stronger, I really don't want to return the router unless completely necessary.

At one location (less than 30 feet away) but through multiple walls, I can barely connect to any POS (I have two). I added a stand alone antenna extension with long antennas on both the router and the WiFi card on the PC, however, this made zero improvement.What should I be looking to purchase to increase the signal strength? I've already tried different routers.

I was at home, in a room just beside the one where the router was placed at.So, I took a look at connection status, and saw the signal strength was Medium - Weak: something around 30% and 55% You could think it was due to mirrors, the kind of walls between the rooms, and everything else, but I instantly remembered when browsing WLAN from the same place but not with the same router, the signal was strong (100%)...but I let it alone In the other day, while browsing WLAN, I've noticed another thing, this time visible: "TX power" I've got in connection status was 39mW, while I was almost sure it should be 100mW, based on my past WLAN connections Then, today I decided to take a look more deeply in that, and unboxed my Linksys' WRT54G to test. The test was carried on consisting in both Wireless routers placed in the same room, and a solid wall was between me and the routers.I could connect to the two WLANs, but the status of connections were different.

As you can see, when connecting to WRT54G , signal reached 100% at some point, whereas in WAG120N , such a mark wasn't possible.Of course, the signal strength was unstable in both routers, but the average level in WRT54G WLAN was greater, being most of time over 90%, and never below 80%.In WAG120N WLAN, average was 82%, and lowest level was 55%.When I went to the room where the routers were at, and right in front of them, no need to say both reached 100%, but as you can see, in WAG120n's case, TX power was still 39mw: I believe it's a firmware fault, once all other routers I've connected to always showed TX power as being 100mW.It shoundn't be related to the general hardware, as Cisco products are high-quality ones.
My enquiry is about a brand new Belkin N150 F6D4050ed that i bought last week.I had to buy it because my previous Wifi Dongle just stopped working all together, it was an excellent dongle, gave me full signal strength and never cut out.Then i bought the Belkin.. I installed the drivers, plugged it in, since then, i have had 2-3 bars constantly, mostly 2 bars, The router is only 8-10 Feet away from me in the next room which is seperated by a very thin wall, It cuts off all together if a body stands in front of it, such as my brother coming in to chat. I have tried to move it around the room with no joy, All laptops and other wireless devices in the house connect to the router fine (Including downstairs in the garden even),Im a gamer, so i need a stable strong connection and its impossible to stay in games with this dongle.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEven though I put high gain antennas on my routers which extended the range of good signal immensely, I wish to try to get even better signal strength also. When using manual configuration mode on the router, I have set the WiFi power level to 100% (default level). Is there a way to increase that level beyond 100% and "overdrive" the signal? I tried to input a number >100% and that was not accepted.
I know this is possible if I go to dd-wrt, and possibly with open-wrt, which I prefer not to do for various reasons, not the least of which is that I have both a Rev. A1 and a Rev. B1 router (Rev. A1 is not supposed to support dd-wrt). I also know that increasing the power will make the router run hotter. I am willing to risk it as I monitor the temperature regularly.
Has anyone ever tried to do this or, have the people who want this just gone to dd-wrt? From the dd-wrt forum it appears that the DIR-825 router in Rev. B1 is not very user friendly to dd-wrt. After 3 years the code is still flaky. I would prefer not to use it, if possible.
I use a Linksys WRT54GR router. I recently bought an iPad, and I generally use it in a room that is on the other side of the house and through many walls. When it works, it works nice. But recently, my signal has been weak, and is often dropped. Pages load slowly, or not at all after getting a could not connect to server or whatever message. However, this isnt a huge problem for my laptops when used in this room. I dont believe it is the iPad that is faulty because my iTouch also experiences difficulty sometimes. I need a way to increase the signal strength for a longer distance. I looked at a repeater, but im not quite sure what it is and how to set one up, or where to buy one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Virgin Media XXL broadband in the UK. I have Avast antivirus. Windows firewall is enabled and all security updates are up to date. I have a 50mbit virgin fiber optic broadband which is working fine on my flatmate's pc's. While making sure the internet wasn't being used my speedtest still returned around 1mbit with full signal strength. I have run speedtest on 3 pc's at the same time and 2 of them were over 30mbit while mine was still barely 1mbit. I am using an Edimax EW-7811Un nano usb adapter. From reviews I read that it should work great with Virgin. But for some reason it doesn't work well despite the full signal strength.

My old linksys router WAG200G has got no issues with wifi signal. I kept both routers at the same place & compared with same standard channel yet what astonishing me that WAG200G has got more stability than X3000 regardless inspite changing to wireless -N. Is there a way to solve it. Btw, I tried all the standard channels yet it doesn't make any difference.

I'm facing a strange problem here with my WAG54G2 gateway. I've got a very bad connection when the signal strength is 2 out of 5 or less. I tested the DL and UL speed via url...and gives me hardly 1 Mb/s even though I have 10Mb ADSL connection. With wired and wireless connection with 3 out of 5 or more I got 8.7 Mb DL from the mentioned website.

I have TWC RCA modem and cisco linksys router and two usb adapters for wireless connection. situation is this: the modem and router are at one end of the house and one of the pc's is located at the other end. that one gets low signal strength only one or two bars and the internet works slowly to a point it feels like i'm on dial up. I've had people tell me to upgrade the router from wrt45g to n which I did to an e1000, but I still have the same issue. also was told to move the modem and router to the center of the house. but twc says that would not correct the issue.
Something about dividing the mpbs and the farther the pc the lower the signal. so, guess my question would be 1. does that sound correct to you. would it be better to move the modem and router? would it be better to have the one in question wired in? I did try an extender by netgear, which gave more bars/signal strength but but then would not connect to the internet. but I did that before I got newer linksys router. not sure if maybe I should try the extender again, but then the geek squad, when they came an set up the new router, said that it would probably do the same thing.

On the router, I tweaked settings to give him priority speed when he is gaming. Although he complains about his speeds and connectivity. In our 2nd floor office -- which is one floor and 30 ft through a wall away -- my signal strength varies from 45% to 70%. There are times when neighbor's networks show greater strength than mine does. I live in a house so the physical distance is much greater plus there are two exterior walls, no matter where their router is placed. The adapter in the office computer is a D-Link DWA-556.

When I am sitting in my living room (about 30 feet away) it's really hard to pull in a signal of more than one bar on my phone, or two bars on my wife's kindle fire and will often drop the signal all together. But, if I search for networks, tons of other routers come up with excellent signal strength from our neighbors. Is there something I need to know about expanding the signal strength?

The problem comes in when I use my computer which is located in a shed outside. I get a signal maybe 35% of the time, and even then it's weak. I want to use an access point to allow the computer in the shed to aquire internet access. Do I need to hardwire the access point or can I do it wirelessly? Would a repeater be more effective and which config would be best in that case?

I called Customer Care and confirmed that MR3220 supports ZTE AC2738 Model even though it is not there in Compatible list. But when i actually configured- It is showing as Modem Identified but signal strenth is showing Zero.
I have connected my DIR-825 to my cable modem through the network ports and completed the configuration. Everything works fine, I am able to connect through wireless to the DIR-825 and access the internet. I had to do this as my cable modem is also wireless and does not allow another router to be connected through the internet connection, but I want to get a better signal stength than the cable modem.When I am not wireless connected, I can see the two bands at full strength in the view available wireless networks screen. As soon as I connect to either the 2.4 channel or the 5 channel, the signal strenth of the channel I'm connected to drops to horrible, while the non-connected one still shows at full strength.i tried disabling one of the channels, but as soon as I connect to the other, that channels signal strength still drops to horrible.

The issue I am having is extremely poor signal from both units. Even when very close to the WAP200, I get poor signal quality. The range before loosing connection is only a few feet.
I'm using the antennas that came with the box and have tried multiple placements both in my house and in other locations. I have also tried changing several of the configurations without any effect on the signal strength. Older D-link and Linksys routers provide good reception to most of my house from the same location.

I think there is a problem with one of these units because when doing a link test one unit shows 14% signal strength on either antenna from the remote router and the second unit shows 6% on the left hand antenna and 1% on the right.
