Will a Wi-Fi range extender affect (i.e., reduce) the signal of the router? How does the throughput signal compare between where it originates and where it ends?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been tasked with providing wireless coverage for an outdoor courtyard. The wireless that bleeds out into the courtyard is minimal for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. I'm thinking a 3502p mounted just inside the wall hooked to a ANT25137NP-R patch antenna mount on an exterior wall. The red line on the wall will represent the antenna mounted on the wall. This will be providing coverage for phones on 5Ghz and general devices on 2.4.

Scenario: 50 persons sitting in a hall with closely packed chairs using wireless simultaneously. Wireless access provided by patch antenna at a height of 11m from the user. As one AP can server 25 users, 2 APs are placed with antenna directions facing the compact users. Each users gets very good signal from these two APs.
Whether there will be serious interference and client association issues in this scenario? once one AP associates 25 clients, whether other 25 clients associate completely to other AP?
i have an Outdoor Area covered by Cisco Wireless LAN Solution (WCS,WLC,1550AP root and Mesh lightweight). I need to disable power transmission for some of these APs in the 2..4GHz.I tried two possible way, but both are not working:
1) Set the power of 802.11g/g/n to 0. There is no such option (power can be set manually from 1 to 5 and, as per the documentation, each level is a reduction of 3dB. Therefore, even if i put to the minimum, i cannot guarantee that there is no utilization of the 2.4GHz spectrum).
2) Define an AP group containing these APs and don't add any SSID. Is not possible because at least one SSID must be added on each AP group.
Working solution/setting in AP/WLC/WCS to avoid transmission in 2.4GHZ? Otherwise the only solution is to power them off?

I just bought a HP Pavilion h9. I enjoyed surfing and gaming for a few days when my wireless decided to disappear (when my brother was using it. He can't remember what he was doing when the problem occured)There seems to be nothing wrong with the router (an AirPort Extreme) since all the 4 of my households laptops can "see" and connect without problems.I've been trying to update my 802.11n WLAN card and other basic stuff, such as restoring to the day before the issue occurred.

I have two spare routers i'm not using, one is a Speedtouch ST585 v6 and the other is a Belkin F5D7632-4 and was wondering if I could use these to extend the range of the home hub wirelessly. As far as I can tell I cannot install dd-wrt on any of these 3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to successfully increas the signal range of the WRT310n? I live in a huge old place and the signal drops to one bar (dial-up speed) about 40 feet across the building. However, at the room before that (maybe 30 feet) my Apple Mac book gets great signal and it's no problem. I need to connect the Mac and 2 PC laptops wirelessly.I'm not sure whether to try a signal booster, set up another access point (or how to do that anyway), or what? Running a cable is unfortunately not an option.I also have a WRT300n (which was replaced this weekend with the 310n). Not sure which one really is better, but the 300n router's range didn't even make it as far as the 310n does. (There was weak signal, no active bars.) Someone suggested adding a more powerful antenna to that router instead?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would just like to know if this will work. I have 2 Linksys wireless routers, 1 is located downstairs, connected to the cable modem and setup wireless, the other is on the second floor on the other side of the house. I need to extend the wireless range but also keep the 2 pcs upstairs connected through the Ethernet cable.
Router A Connected downstairs to modem 192.168.1.1 DHCP enabled (Change scope to leave out the .2) WPA on wireless setup channel 11
Router B Give it a static ip of 192.168.1.2 Connect cable from wall to any LAN port on router
Setup WPA using same SSID and PW different channel . Leave the 2 pc's connected as before.
The other 2 hardwired PCs should get an address from Router A and be able to connect to the internet?Does this make sense and should it work?
Region : Germany
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : Build 121225 Rel.37950n
I have low signal range from this WDR4300 router on both bands and especially on 5Ghz i lose my connectivity on just few meters away from the router and on other rooms in my 80m2 apartment, i also own another tp link 740n with only one antenna and the range is better with it almost covers all my apartment. Router has been reset after being updated to latest firmware and tried different configurations but im not satisfied with the signal range. Is there something i can do.

And he should have the net, via my pc. I tried to use another wifi device to connect to the shared IP...And the router itself...But there was no internet. have tried to configure this router to work as a repeater as well using it's setup. This resulted in no internet connectivity over lan, and no wifi service listing. These is no way for me to tell it which router or device it should be repeating from...
I have tried manually configureing the mn-700 To use the same ip the other router does for it's services. The mn-700 doesn't keep the settings. When it does there is no internet or wifi services. When i have it setup on it's own, no config changes...It'll connect over wifi to the router but there is no net. I can connect a lan wire going to the other router and renew it's lease. This will give the mn-700 an ip addy as if it were another pc. It uses this as it's WAN config

View 4 Replies View RelatedOur wireless router is in a room at one end of the house (beside the telephone point) from which ethernet cables can connect to the Cat5 sockets taking the broadband to the other rooms that have a Cat5 socket. That is fine for connecting devices to the sockets in the other rooms but because the house is old with thick walls our wifi signal fades to nothing in some parts of the house. Moving the wireless router only moves the problem to another area. I thought about a wifi repeater but the room I would like to locate it in to then boost the signal to the rest of the house is borderline on the range for the wireless router. Is it possible to connect another wireless router or device to the main wireless router through the Cat5 cabling so that the second router/device can offer wifi to that area of the house?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Asus WL-520GU router, about 2 years old. I hardly experienced any troubles with this guy so far as the router sits next to my laptop. Recently, I started working in the living room at wee hours of the day and I noticed that I do not get much signal, plus it drops so many times that working in the living room has become a nightmare. Its not that I live in a Presidential Palace but actually its as small as a chicken coop.
- I used inSSIDer to find out any interference. My router was using channel 1, although it was set to auto. Majority of routers in our apartment block use channel 1 or 11 (ALL Linksys, except me and an Apple guy) at 2.4GHz. I changed the channel to 3.
- I checked the firmware of the router. Its 3.0.0.8. Asus website gives me a list of firmware upgrades but I am not too sure if there is indeed any upgrade for the routers in the US.
I am not smart enough to install DD-WRT so staying away from it unless I find any didactic instructions. DD-WRT site is not for me.
- I am considering hanging router on the wall with Aluminium file behind the antenna.
- I am considering changing the antenna. The antenna is 2dBi. I found a few antennas on ebay, 5dBi, 7dBi, 9dBi, 10 dBi, 12 dBi, 16dBi May be I will replace the antenna with one of these. Any specific I should use? (I don't know if there is any limitation or disadvantage of using higher dBI antenna.)
- Lastly, I am considering buying a refurbished Linksys E1000 or E1200 router and connect both using ethernet cable, so that one of these guys act as a repeater.
I have a Belkin NF5D8236-4 v3 as my main router. However, the signal range isn't the best throughout my home. After a little research and a tight budget, my thought is to purchase a Belkin N150 F9K1001 to serve as the primary router and then use the N F5D8236-4 v3 as an access point elsewhere in the house.I understand that the N150 cannot serve as an access point (hence the idea to use that as the primary), but that the N F5D8236-4 v3 can. Am I correct? Will my plan work? I can't spend much and a booster would cost more than the N150.
