Cisco 2950G / Two SBS Networks - One Internet Connection

Mar 19, 2012

Basically I have 3 networks in the school - one of which I have no control over as it is a managed network. I also have a Microsoft Windows SBS network in the school which I look after myself. Both the managed network and what I class as my legacy network share a cisco router. The managed network is connected to wan port one and my 'legacy' network is connected to wan port 2. The cisco router has been set up in such a way by the managing company that the second wan port is for my legacy network and has an ip address of 10.127.40.1 and subnet 255.255.248.0 so my legacy network has IP ranging on the same subnet So far, everything works great in its current setup but I have now been given a task. The school canteen has had a Windows 2003 SBS server installed to operate their cashless system and I have been asked if they can get access to the internet. I could remove my 'legacy' network and connect their network but don't really wish to do so. This particular SBS server has been set up with ip addressing 192.x.x.x and subnet 255.255.255.0 Is there a way I can set up the two 'legacy' networks to 'share' this one internet connection. I need to keep the two legacy networks separate in terms of IP addressing. I also need to keep costs to a minimum. Minimum would be to disconnect my network but as I say, I don't wish to do so. I have access to some Cisco 2950G switches and I think from reading on the internet, that a layer 3 switch or router may be required?

Two Routers (cisco E1200 / Dlink Dsl 2750b) Separate Wifi Networks - One Internet Connection?

Dec 12, 2012

I am trying to set up two routers so that I can offer free wireless connectivity via three AP's in three adjoining rooms on a first floor and secured wireless and wired network connectivity in upstairs offices. The setup is like this:

Verizon DSL connectivity..static IP

The gateway modem/router is a Verizon DLink DSL 2750B with three ports connecting to three wired Access Points in three first floor adjoining rooms, and the 4th port connecting to a Cisco E1200 (wireless and ethernet router) located next to the Verizon Dlink. I would like the Verizon DLink to give open wireless connectivity via the access points and also connect to the adjacent E1200 router.

I would like the Cisco E1200 to offer secured wireless and ethernet connectivity to the upstairs offices. (connecterd to the Cisco E1200 is a 24 port Netgear switch.)I have spent considerable time talking with Verizon and Cisco/Linksys but have not been successful in just how to set this up.A former tech actually did have this setup but for what ever reason the settings were reset to factory defaults with no written record as to the necessary settings.

Wireless Adapter Cannot Find Any Networks - Connection Vanished?

Jul 11, 2011

My internet has been working fine until a few minutes ago, when my connection just vanished. I went to try and reconnect but my Belkin N Wireless USB adapter could not find any wireless networks to connect to. While searching for a connection, the light starts blinking like it is searching, but then it says that it can't find any. Also, when I plug in the adapter, a popup comes up saying that there are wireless networks nearby, but when I click it there are still none.

I've tried reinstalling drivers but still nothing. I'm not sure what else to try because I'm afraid I might mess something up even more.

Laptop Connects To Networks But Not The Internet?

Jun 7, 2011

About a week ago my laptop stopped connecting to the internet for no apparent reason as it had connected just fine the night before. It's a Toshiba and the wireless router I use is a belkin. Every other wireless device from my brother's laptop to my Ipod can connect to the internet just fine. Even the PC connected to the router via ethernet cable can get online. I've tried unplugging the modem, resetting my IP address, directly connecting with an ethernet cable to the router, and resetting my router. My internet browser, IE, used to freeze up but I had a friend look at and he only managed to have it unfreeze[CODE]

PC Splits LAN Into 2 Networks / Won't Connect To Internet At Startup

Apr 6, 2011

I have been running my new PC for about 2 weeks now, absolutly fine, until last Saturday. When I started it up, it would not connect to the internet; so I looked into it, and found it had 'split' (is the best word I can describe it), the LAN connection into 2 seperate networks, (one of them, an Unidentified Public LAN) and couldn't connect to the internet on either of them. I figured after a few minutes of fiddeling, that the only way to prevent this from happening was to disable the Network Card and restart it.This is to say, when I go to the Network and Sharing Center, it will show two active networks, both of which cannot access the internet, both LAN. To get around it, I click on the Local Area Connection link for any of the networks, and click the 'Disable' button in the Status window.I then click connect/disconnect, and follow the troubleshooting to re-activate the connection, and it is fine.

How To Connect To Internet (also Wireless Networks) On A Desktop

Jul 10, 2011

I'm building a desktop PC from scratch, and since up until now I've always taken this for granted with a laptop, I'm a bit confused what it is I need to connect to the internet. First of all, I live in a student residence, so up until now I was able to just use an ethernet cable, connecting the wall to my laptop to gain access to the internet service I'm paying for, an I was also able to connect to wireless networks. So my question is what do I need to buy to get the same connectivity?Do I need to buy a network card, so that I will be able to connect from the wall to my computer and gain access to the internet (not wireless), or do motherboards have that capability already these days? This is the motherboard I'm buying, and if I buy a network card, this is probably the one I'm going with. Or should I go with one that has the IEEE 802.1p, as well?

And then for the gaining access to wireless networks part. Do I just buy a router and that's it? For example, would buying just this router enable me to connect to wireless networks? Or can I just buy this PCI adapter?Would it also be possible to go from the wall directly to the router, then to the computer gain access to both the non-wireless and wireless networks?

TP-Link WR740N Router / Unnecessary Home Networks With No Internet Access?

Aug 3, 2012

I've been having this issue for quite some time on my Windows 7 SP3 x64 machine. It's a desktop, connected via ethernet to a TP-Link WR740N router, that also provides wireless coverage. My ISP is a local one (the country is Latvia), and it offers a decent 100 MBps up/down optical fiber internet service. Now for the problem - there is only one home network on my computer, that seems to work, and that is 'Network 2'. Whenever I have to reboot the router for whatever reason, it attempts to reconnect, but sometimes reconnects to a 'Network 3' and once even to a 'Network 4' and 'Network 5'. None of these other networks have internet access. I tried to run the diagnostics tool on the issue, and usually it told me that there's a problem with the default gateway. Additionally, twice I've had the issue of the computer completely freezing when connected to one of the Internet-less networks (eg 'Network 3'), and trying to disable the network adapter, forcing a restart that consequently caused a fail boot - from there on I had to use System Restore to actually get my PC to function.

The way I've been fixing it, apart from random rebooting, reconnecting, and hoping for the best (that it decides it wants 'Network 2'), is by putting in the Resource Mini CD that came with my router, and running the Wizard for the WR740N router. It has 4 steps, the 2nd of which is 'Installing the router' (configuring the network adapter), at which point, my internet starts to work (always connects to 'Network 2'). If, I however, decide to continue this process to the step 'Configure router', and attempt to set up my wireless connection, it will begin to reset itself, and once again connect to 'Network 3', leaving me without internet access.

Browsers Lose Connection To Internet / Despite Still Having A Connection?

May 13, 2012

Every time I boot up my computer, everything will be working fine for about 5 -10 minutes, but after this, all my browsers will lose connection to the Internet. All of them: IE, firefox, chrome, even the steam browser, all of them just lose connection. The weird thing is, my net connection is perfectly fine: I can still play online games, still use online chat services, still open and use programs like utorrent. It's like something is just blocking all my browser connections. When I run a network troubleshooter, it says "your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (Microsoft Corporation: Software, Smartphones, Online, Games, Cloud Computing, IT Business Technology, Downloads) is not responding."I googled this and came across some apparent fixes like flushing and re-registering my dns and restarting my modem, niether of which has worked. In addition, this problem is showing up on two totally separate shared networks and has only affected my computer. Other netwworked devices, like friends/families computers and my iPhone (which I am using to type this) work fine.

LAN Connection But No Internet - Internet Gateway Disabled?

Nov 6, 2011

I have a desktop computer that I have used for years and it has always worked just fine. We have AT&T (DSL, not cable) and it used to connect just fine but then I moved out, left everything plugged in exactly as it was and when I came back it wouldn't connect. It connects to the LAN but not to the internet. When I go in cmd to type ipconfig the DNS suffix is blank on that computer but says gateway.2wire.net on my wireless laptop. I eventually disabled UPnP on it because that's what alot of people were saying fixed the problem but it didn't fix anything. All it did was make the Internet Gateway Connection box disappear.Originally it was plugged in like so: Cable from wall > Cable Box > PC Now it is hooked up like this: Data cable from wall > DSL > Router > PC It stopped working BEFORE it was switched to DSL so that isn't the problem The DSL we have is "AT&T 2701HG-B 2Wire Wireless Gateway DSL Router Modem" and the Router it is plugged into that goes to my PC is a Linksys Wireless Router Model WRT54GS The PC is Windows XP Home, SP2?

Internet Connection On And Off

Aug 29, 2012

I recently moved into a new place and my internet's been very spotty at best. The internet seems very fast at times but slows down, and even completely stop working, at other times. The weird thing is that my computer never says I'm disconnected from the internet. Instead, I either get disconnected from my games or the webpages I try to load show that it "cannot be displayed." The place I moved into provides wall jacks for a T-1 internet connection. I've tried directly connecting the ethernet cable to my desktop/laptop as well as connecting it to a router and trying out the wireless, all to no avail. The problem only seems to be resonating from where I'm currently living, as when I go onto campus, the wireless is fine. Also tried turning off firewalls, using a different browser, resetting the router, and a new ethernet cable.

Cannot Keep Internet Connection

Mar 15, 2011

I have a desktop that had issues, so I cleaned the hard disk and reinstalled the software like when it was new. I have updated all the windows and network card updates. When I first start the computer, I can connect to the internet for about 2-5 minutes then lose the connection. Often, internet explorer shows a screen that says the site is busy and try again later, but we can connect fine on other computers. Our internet connection comes from a DSL modem to a Cisco Valet Plus wireless router, however this computer is connected by a hard wire to a port on the router. I have changed ports, but have the same issue. The computers connected wirelessly stay connected.

I can restart the computer and the internet will work for 2-5 minutes again, but then do the same. If I go to ipconfig and release and renew, it still will not connect to the internet.
