Accessing User Folders On Server?

I have a Windows Home Server v.1 I set it up nearly a year ago, and everything runs fine.I have 3 different user accounts that are password protected.On my PC, i have been running Windows 7 and using the server as my My Documents folder.I recently installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on an old Hard Drive, and i can't seem to access any folder on the server that isn't already given public permission. Whenever i try to access my User folder i get an access denied message, but no prompt to enter a password so i can use it.

Windows Server 2003, XP and W7 desktops. I have a growing number of user folders that are seemingly in the wrong place. When I am looking at the directories locally on the server, there are some document folders that are directly in the Users folder, rather than existing as subfolders within a user's folder. In fact, the user's folder is not present at all. So rather than Joe Smith's folder structure being 'Users/jsmith/', there are a series of folders under 'Users' that are named 'Documents'. As I click on each one though, I see in the address bar 'Users/jsmith' etc. In the tree, there is no folder named jsmith, but in the address bar there is. And in the address bar, there is no folder named 'Documents'.This seems to be limited to newer users and older users who have Windows 7 PCs, but I don't know for sure if that's the source of the change.

Q1/ I have 2 WinXP laptops on the network. One is WinXP Pro and one is WinXP HomeIn My Network Places of WinXP Home, it can see the WinXP Pro. In WinXP Pro, I have to do a search of the WinXP Home computer in order to detect its existence. WhyQ2/ In both systems, when I tried to access the other computer, a popup screen asked for password. I keyed in the proper password, but I cannot access the computer on the network. I repeatedly keying in the password but had the same result. I turned off the firewall on both systems. Same problem existed. On both systems, "File and Printer Sharing" are enabled in the Firewall exception. And on both systems, I can ping the other system without any problem

i have a question about accessing shared folders over the WAN-Port of an DIR-615. For your information: both sides of the network (LAN and WAN) are under my control.
On the WAN-side of the network we have a fileserver with shared files. We can ping the server and reach it and the Websites on this server are also reachable from the LAN-side. But if we try to access to the shared folders the request doesn't reach the server. If we change the router there are no more problems and anything works without problems. The Router has default-settings except the network-settings so it works in our network. Does this router block outgoing traffic on ports 135-139 and/or 445? And when yes is there any way to disable this? I can't find it.

We have shared network drives on my network whose folder structure must not change. We have users who must have full access to the contents of these folders and be able to read/modify/erase and create new files inside these folders. However, the structure of the folders must not change so that other users/programs can locate files within these folders.
Some users sometimes "aggressively click" and drag and drop folders into different locations and can't remember where they dropped them. This makes them inaccessible for other users. We have a lot of folders so I implemented FileWatcher Simple program to monitor these folders and if there is a change in folder structure I get an email with an attached log. The log tells me which folders got created/deleted/renamed and I am able to restore the folder structure if need; but I cannot see who caused these changes.
1. Is there a way for me to see which user in my domain modified the folders?
2. Is there a way to disable users from drag and dropping, deleting, renaming folders yet still maintain full access to the files within these folders?

I've only worked with 7/asa5580 in an Active Directory setting. Sysprepping to clone those machines with default profiles with unattends was very easy, but XP is a different story. I'm now faced with moving several buildings with XP machines to a few Server 2008 R2 boxes, which all will all be in one location. There are around 700 machines but this will be a building by building process, maybe 100 at a time over the course of a year or more. Moving these machines to Win 7 is not an option. There are several buildings but they are all in the same town, all connected with fiber. I do not manage the physical network. My plan is to just offer each user thier mapped network home drive and possibly redirected folders. I'm just keeping it basic.
How important is it to sysprep these XP machines after I do clean installs? I've heard it's very important but also know a lot of people on AD that just clone machines without sysprepping. I've heard not sysprepping can screw with WSUS, but in the years up to this point the machines on Novell have been cloned without sysprep and WSUS worked fine.
Also, will Sites give me the advantage of forcing groups/buildings of machines to authenticate to a specific DC? Otherwise I only know of Sites to allow you to control the replication between servers over WAN. What other benefits is there to using Sites for each building?
If I'm running a few DC/FS's, how to handle DNS? Each server that needs DNS installed will have it installed per requirement, but as for configuring the workstations DNS settings, should I dedicate one server to DNS or have two, or something different?
My last question is about folder permission inheritance. My previous experience, I created a folder inheritance system where when the user was created, their home drive pointed to a folder using \%username%, and a folder would be automatically created, give ownership to the user, and inherit permissions to only view that folder and no one elses. It works brilliantly. My problem is that when I use group policy to deploy folder redirections, I couldn't figure out a way to automatically create folders. I ended up pointing the redirection policy back to their own home folder. It ended up working out OK, but whenever the users look in their network drive they could see the redirected folders.

I have the EA4500 router with cisco connect cloud, must say this router is great for limiting kids online.1 question I have however is the ability for a blocked user (internet access block) that is redirected to the cisco web site and presented with a log in screen. Is there anyway I can disable this becuase the kids stay up all night trying to figure out the password to log in, I just want it to say internet access blocked with no option for logging in for the blocked user.

I work at a campus and use the WCS to control access to my network for staff and only internet access for students. The Staff are assigned Username/password thru active directory and the student uses another SSID with only WPA --a password for all. I was tasked with adding more securing for students -- by adding a user/password. I do not want them connecting to my Active Directory for two reason--security risk and I have too many to input (over 1000). So, I wanted to use our internal database to validate users. I create a webpage with "WebAuth" that opens my logon page from my site and validates the login fields against the database. It works and this allows the user to navigate thru my website but not outside the site. If they try an outside url it redirect them to my logon script. I now understand why, so I'm looking for code I can add to my logon page that would allow me to redirect me to the controller's (once users are authenticated by my database) to call the WCS controller so I can enter a preset username/password so the policy management file would allow them access. I presently use "External" and don't know if "Custom" would work. Finding a way in using a database instead of adding one person at a time?

we have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

I have a small network running in my language academy which is causing me some issues. We have a server running Win XP with two folders, one for the teachers which is password protected and the other for the students which doesn't require a password. Up until two days it has been working well. However now the server keeps disconnecting from the internet quite randomly which stops us from connecting to the shared folders.
I've noticed that a caution icon appears next to the ethernet icon in the task bar when this problems occurs on the server. I have tried to right click and choose the repair option but it tell me that it cannot resolve the ip address. In some cases rebooting the server resolves the issues but in many case it doesn't.

I have the WDR-3600 with a usb drive. I have updated to latest firmware 3.13.26. I am having problems with the media server. I have 331 folders shared in the Music folder. When I access it via the DLNA it will only show the first 123 folders. I can access all of the folders via network share but not via the media server. I have checked this on my music player and my android phone and tablet. Both of them can only see the first 123 folders.

Is this possible and if so what commands do i need to configure on my ASA 5510 for it to work.I have two web server within my DMZ and i want to access the outside url of on on the web server from the other. Currently i can access the internet from both webserver server but not the url form either webservers.
E.g. config

I recently bought a personal laptop that I'd like to use at work. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed and because of that, I can't join it to the Windows Server 2003 domain we have. I don't really need to print or any of the other things that go with being on the domain, I just need access to a few key folders. Is there any way to access shares on the server with Win 7 Home?

I am having some trouble understanding extended control lists. I am trying to prevent a certain host on LAN1 from accessing a server on LAN2, while still allowing the host access to the rest of LAN2.This is what I thought the command should be:
access-list 100 deny ip 175.16.1.2 0.0.0.0 175.17.2.2 0.0.0.0
My understanding was that:
Green = source & mask
Red = destination & mask
However this seems to stop all my other hosts on LAN1 from pinging the server also.

I cannot seem to see my server behind a cisco router. I have a feeling it is because our network phone system may be robbing the IP address?We have two fixed IP addresses.The first one, is assigned to the router.We have two swtiches set up behind router and all the other network stuff interanally wrks great.We also have full internet access. When I type the IP in on the web, it accesses the talkswitch phone system.I have set the internal IP to the server as fixed.I have port 21 open for FTP.When I run a test, the internet sees port 21 open. However, I cannot seem to cal lup the server over the internet. Could the talkswitch system somehow be interfereing with the logon?What would the proper syntax be to access the server?

We have a ASA5510 with a webserver in the DMZ network 10.2.2.0/24. We now want this web server to be able to access the Exchange server in the Inside network 10.1.1.0/24. I researched this and it seemed straight forward according the the Cisco document below:

I'm looking to do this with smtp so I added these lines to the config:

The configuration line:access-group DMZ in interface DMZ Already existed in the configuration so didn't need to be re-entered.

I have a VPN connection to my office network. The VPN connection appears to work fine as it connects and logs me in successfully. In the connection box I have to provide a domain and my username to log in. Once the VPN is connected I am then able to ping my office computer as if I was on the same network. That is great. The problem is that there is a server on that network that defines a bunch of A records for web applications we are working on and I can't seem to hit any of those from my home computer, even though I can at work. If I remote into the office PC and navigate to these addresses they work fine. I also know that my co-worker can hit these a records from home so it has to be something I'm doing wrong.

I have a question regarding CSS loadbalancer. Let's say there are 2 vlans in CSS:
1. Vlan 10: 10.1.1.0/24 as external interface, interface where most of the clients are coming from.
2. Vlan 20: 10.1.2.0/24 for real server vlan.
Virtual IP 10.1.1.10 is created in CSS on behalf of two real servers (10.1.2.11 & .12) in Vlan 20. Client from Vlan 10 can http access to 10.1.1.10 successfully.
In Vlan 20 there's also few clients which need to access servers via virtual IP. Vlan 20 Client PC (10.1.2.101) can ping 10.1.1.10, but can't access 10.1.1.10 http service.
Is there any way for CSS to forward service request coming from Server vlan to be send back to the same segment?

We have ASA5520 and we want to configure a VPN IPSEC profile so that a partner of ours can access only a server and only on HTTP port.I've tried configuring split tunneling with an Extended ACL but probably I'm missing something. I just configured the ACL so that it included any source to our server's IP on HTTP port but when testing, it didn't work.
However, if I configure a Standard ACL on the split tunneling I can access the server and all the services it provides.Do you know if I'm missing anything on the Extended ACL configuration?
Should I configure this any other way?

Actually not randomly. It's normally after weekly reboots. This causes the Great Plains DB to be locked to 1 person, so other people get errors.
Sometimes I can just unrestrict access, other times it's grayed out and I have to drop the DB and restart the services to take it out of single user mode.

We had a power outage that kicked off our server and our network switch (2008R2, Cisco2960), before we could get it back up, a user was able to log into his laptop.
The user used the domain login - not the local machine account - he obviously wasn't able to access any shared resources, but how did he log in with a domain account, when the server and switch were both off?
