View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm currently switching from a certain internet provider to another and I'm forced to get another router. What I wanted to do is since the initial router has to be on the first floor, I'd like to have the second one on the top floor closer to my computer whereas they would share a dedicated connection between each other wirelessly so it would make my connection faster rather than just having my pc connect directly wirelessly to the initial router on the first floor. Is that possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout two weeks ago, my internet connection became faster. I am not sure if it has to do with my cable ISP doing something or something I did with my computer.
Right around the same time, my connection began disconnecting every two or three days. Before this, I had a rock solid connection for two years.Â
It will usually reconnect after a minute. Otherwise, when I boot my computer, the problem is solved.Â
I am certain there is a correlation between the connection speed going up and my connection becoming less stable.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear WNR3500L wireless router. I assume it's v1 because on the back it doesn't have "v" anything. Firmware version V1.2.2.44_35.0.53NA.When I connect using g I get 22+Mbps download speed. When I connect using n I get 10 Mbps. I've tried using both WPA2 only (laptop reports 130 Mbps connection I believe) as well as the combo WPA+WPA2 (laptop reports connection of 117 Mbps).Broadband download results don't change - they stay at the 10 Mbps level. I've fiddled with some of the settings on my laptop's wireless card - but the results are the same. For now I'm just trying to figure out where I should focus my investigation and fiddling efforts - on the laptop or on the router.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhy my wireless connection on my laptop is significantly better than my wired connection to my desktop. Internet ran just fine on the desktop at my old apartment; got to the new place, and now it's having serious issues.
After working on this problem for a while, I have come to the conclusion that for some reason, I am getting serious packet loss, consistently, at a particular "hop" on my desktop, which is not present on the laptop. Here are the Line Quality tests that illustrate the problem better than I could ever describe it in words:
Laptop: Line quality test packet loss and latency | DSLReports.com, ISP Information
Desktop: Line quality test packet loss and latency | DSLReports.com, ISP Information(and it appears they both fail the initial test, but the laptop connection runs just fine).
So at that one specific hop (ae-1-0.cr0.chi10.tbone.rr.com, I have no idea what that means), my desktop connection suffers serious packet loss while the laptop is more or less OK.This discrepancy is evident in the quality of connection on my desktop, while the laptop runs just fine. Here, in summary, is what I have tried:
-Going wired through laptop using same cables, ports, and router as desktop: laptop performs flawlessly.
-Updating router firmware, NIC card drivers, and Windows on the desktop
-Full virus disk scan and boot scan using Avast; full malware scan using Malwarebytes; Windows disk defrag
-Disabling QoS packet scheduler
-Performing netsh /flushdns; winsock reset; ipconfig release, renew
-(Temporarily) disabling Antivirus program
All of these actions together have made the desktop connection USABLE... however it is by no means an acceptable level of quality for a cable connection, and not nearly as good as any other in the apartment gets using the same connection, whether wired or wireless. The only visible difference I can find between the laptop and the desktop is the packet loss that is present at that one hop in particular, which is extremely debilitating for the desktop's connection.

Here is the previous thread that details my troubleshooting efforts thus far; as the question has now become something entirely different, I thought it more appropriate to make a new thread.

But after "cleaning" my Internet connection is not working anymore. All the solutions I have found about restoring Winsock funcionality were useless.I have a laptop connected via Wi-Fi and it is working fine. So any problem with my modem or router should be ruled out.Especially because the same desktop can connect to the Internet using Ubuntu Linux.
